meh, kind of just facts of how a player at one point, potentially could have been the greatest Canuck player in franchise took, one of the biggest career dips people have seen in NHL.
From top 5C in the league to a 2nd Liner.

I think it's a motivation/drive thing. Even years back, there was a time it was said that he got really into fashion stuff, to the point it was a distraction. and then there was a time he was on social media too much? add in that one of the issues talked about during the JT feud was that JT wasn't happy with EP's off season prep. and then after the Hughes trade, people saying Hughes had issue with EP's work ethic. EP having just gotten married (to a social media influencer) before the season began, likely having been dating for the year before (throughout the drama), i can see how that may also have played into it.
EP might be one of those guys who just wants to live his life and enjoy it, while also being able to play hockey, as opposed to the guys who live and breathe hockey. There are players that are described as "hockey nuts/nerds' (like Hughes), but i've never heard EP described that way.
Once he proved he was a good player that belonged, his motivation/drive went elsewhere. In the best interest of every party, I think the guy needs a change in scenery. The stench from the drama still lingers.
Remember when he first came here and he was going over like 30 separate points of movement on his wrist shot or whatever, practicing shit over and over and over again… the fuck happened to that player and mindset?

Also his addiction to gaming to the wee hours in the morning knowing he has practice the next day. EP40 is the definition of talent but lazy. He thought he was king shit coming from SHL. Then he won the rookie award in the NHL. After that players would figure your game out and play you hard. And he wasn't ready for that.
As much as I have supported Petey, I've always viewed him as a 1B center at best. For this reason alone, I wouldn't want to see him be captain. He needs to prove he deserves such a title and all this talk about his work ethic and commitment are damning.
As for who should be next captain, I'm honestly not sure yet. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with Garland, I just wonder if there's a better candidate.
Not sure if Myers is a good pick given he's 35, doesn't have much time left in the league. It would be better for us to choose someone who will hopefully be captain more than a season or two.
We shouldn't rush, wait until next season, even the one after before landing on the next cap.

Grow up fuckin Peter Pan and get a good nights rest.
Chaos Giraffe isn't exactly inspiring confidence on the ice lol. He's a good role model for the young guys, yes. But I gather they'd rather choose someone who has a calming influence on the team. Makes me think of Bieksa that one time when he motioned to everyone on the ice to just settle down.
Was using my The Athletic subscription to check out their rankings series, and came across their ranking of NHL team ownership from earlier this year. Here's where the Aquaman placed:

One of the most intense fan bases in all of pro sports, Canucks supporters have had to deal with a lot in recent years. Vancouver has missed the playoffs in seven of the past nine years, and the GM tenure of Jim Benning (2014-21) was one of the most disastrous in NHL history.
Even with more stability in place now and the front office cleaning up a lot of the mess, the fan base hasn’t forgiven or forgotten, ranking ownership 30th in franchise stability and 31st in treatment of the fan base. It’s likely going to take a period of sustained success for Aquilini to win over the market.
Fan perspective: “He’s a fine owner when the team is winning but needs to stop meddling and let his GMs work when the team is rebuilding. Or at least let them rebuild instead of retool.”
“If I could erase the eight years of Benning hell that Aquilini directly caused, this would be a very different survey, as (former GM) Mike Gillis took us to the finals and (new president) Jim Rutherford is killing it. But alas, those scars run too deep.”

Yes, reports from late 2025 indicate that Vancouver Canucks' new black seats with cupholders at Rogers Arena faced delays, with some season ticket holders learning the full completion might stretch into February 2026, despite earlier promises of being ready for the 2025-26 season, due to installation issues and a bankrupt subcontractor. Most seats were installed, creating a temporary "eyesore" of mixed old/new seats, but the final sections were pushed back from the original summer/fall 2025 timeline, with fans receiving credits for the inconvenience.
FYI, it's a $50 credit per seat for fans who are sitting in the old maroon seats.
Aquilini's rating in terms of "willingness to spend" on the franchise is low in many ways.
Heck, Rogers Arena did not even have cupholders in the new arena seats until the start of this season.
Rogers Arena is 30 years old! Finally, Canucks fans have cupholders to use for holding overpriced drinks if you choose to get ripped off by Aquaman by buying beer or other drinks in the arena.
I cannot believe that the Canucks are one of two teams, Calgary included, that do not have their own practice facility.
Aquaman lacks leadership when it comes to spending money to improve the team's facilities and improve the fans' experience at games.
You can say that he is a cheapskate in some ways.
Are the Abbotsford Canucks getting their championship rings soon?
Let's welcome Tocchet back to Rogers Arena tonight.
Gosh, this nepotism on Sportsnet is atrocious, it's so obvious that Ray Ferrero got his son Landon a spot on the commentator desk during intermission. He is just awful to listen to.

Speaking of awful, this is the first game I’ve been able to sit and watch recently… good lord this team is bad. Zero chemistry and full of extremely highly paid players barely even trying. I don’t even think the Canucks would notice if Boeser and Debrusk never played another game… $13M right there.
Can’t exit their own zone. Can’t control in the opposing zone. All the chances are just luck off the rush or the Karlson line working its ass off. So many 10 foot passes not even on the mark.

There's no way EP40 should get the C.
He's not inspiring any teammates playing the way he does while commanding that kind of salary, nor failing to fulfil the role he was meant to be. And it makes no sense to give the C to a player who you wouldn't even flinch to trade if it weren't for his NMC and boat anchor contract.
Garland has the heart of a lion, but as you said, there could be someone better. I would prefer to just wait, they absolutely do not need a captain this season.
