The beetle used to be the practical, attainable supercar but I just priced out a plain jane Carrera S, not even a GTS/4S for over $220k + taxes... didn't even go crazy on the options.
Plus now ICBC deems all beetles exotics and doubled the insurance cost.

Might as well get a slighty used roma.

bcrdukes 07-03-2025 08:00 AM

I'm not defending Porsche, but can you and should you daily drive a Roma though?

68style 07-03-2025 08:03 AM

Crown Sigma has the same headlights

No, cuz if you have any modern day Ferrari with something like 20,000kms on it, it becomes worthless. Values plummet subterranean if it has high miles. Air quote high miles

EvoFire 07-03-2025 08:24 AM

The Roma and by extension the Amalfi would be worthless the moment you drive off anyways, it's a commodity Ferrari

Badhobz 07-03-2025 08:31 AM

All these exotics sucks.

But value wise, that base model 911 that’s 220k is the absolute worst trash can on sale today.

They used to be 10-15k more than a m3. Porsche was only a slight tinge above a bmw in terms of pricing and often cheaper than a Mercedes. Nowadays they elevated themselves to exotic car prices and you still get a beetle shape and a lousy Subaru engine. Fuck you porsche.

bcrdukes 07-03-2025 09:12 AM

I see you've ordered your Porsche jacket and cap :troll:

noclue 07-03-2025 09:24 AM

The thing that aggravates me the most about porsche are the nickel and diming on options that should be standard for the price point. Porsche snobs say that "oh that's how you customize your porsche (pronounced por-shuh) to your individual taste" BUT

You want full leather seats and dash so that your car doesnt look like a VW golf? That's $9k. Blind spot assist and adaptive LED headlights that were standard in a corolla from 2016? That's another $2k. Mediocre Bose sound system thats standard in a civic touring? $2K.

JDMDreams 07-03-2025 09:25 AM

How about you act like the blue collar manager you are and get a Corvette. Then put Ferrari badges on it:troll:

My GF said I can't get one cuz I'm not blue collar or brown :okay:

Badhobz 07-03-2025 09:28 AM

Poor Sha is what you’ll be after buying their insanely marked up bullshit products. You want a GT car ? You have to buy our shitty e-bike too. 22k !!!

I mean Ferrari does this too… but hey it’s a Ferrari. All these cunts with macans and 10k first gen cayennes are ruining your so called exotic opulence

Badhobz 07-03-2025 09:30 AM

I’d buy a z06 over a base model 911. It’s cheaper if you can believe it !!!

noclue 07-03-2025 09:32 AM

You can get a Z06 with the glorious flat plane V8 for the same price as a base carrera. Now that's a performance bargain.
Plus the facelift one finally fixes that weird wall of buttons.

bcrdukes 07-03-2025 10:29 AM

Let me be the bad guy here.

As much as we are all advocating the Z06 as the anti-hero, how many of you would be okay with its depreciation and alleged build quality?

Admit it. Porsche is the answer.

JDMDreams 07-03-2025 10:56 AM

Do they depreciate bad? Used 2020 c8 is still over $80000. A new one is about $100000 + tax. Can't be more unreliable than VW problems.

Badhobz 07-03-2025 11:10 AM

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...a-s-road-test/

This is my biggest gripe with Porsche.

so in 2005 it was $74,000 cad for a base model 997 carrera. or $115,487.35 today
BMW m3 in 2005 was 65k cad for base model. or $100,890 today

in 2025, a base model 911 starts at $159,322.
while a base model m3 is only $97,924

40k jump on a worse car. its wayyy too big, its wayyy too expensive, and objectively uglier. Whereas the BMW basically held the same price and is actually cheaper than before.

Edit: no clue built a pretty standard beetle for 220k. That’s 100k over the m3/m4. There’s no way it’s 100k better than the m3/m4 in anything. I’ll take that pig nosed bastard 10/10 over the base 911.

I'm not shitting on Corvettes; I think they are great cars and have their pros and cons like any car out there. But let's be real. From a marketing perspective, Porsche, Ferrari, and what have you, have done a great job of creating this unobtanium and prestige that comes with ownership. A Corvette does not have the same zeal.

pastarocket 07-03-2025 11:18 AM

Overall, I think that Ferrari designs for their newest cars like the 296 GTB and the F80 are less appealing compared to their older models.

Once Ferrari ended its partnership with Pinifarina in 2013 in order to have more control over the car design with its own design studio, the cars have looked less appealing in my opinion.

Look at my avatar. Lamborghinis have a beautiful design. Revuelto >> 12 Cilindri.

dark0821 07-03-2025 11:21 AM

So earlier this year, those $230K Used Romas are good deals?

JDMDreams 07-03-2025 11:49 AM

No that should be a the new price for a base Ferrari.

A glance on autotrader it seems C7 and C8 Z06's are maintaining their values nicely, or the owner is out to lunch. Build quality.. sure it's made by bob in kentucky, but it's no longer the fiberglass bumper and chevy cobalt parts bin special in the past. Plus cheap parts and oil changes!

My 991 with full leather was nice, but just like the bentley continental if you look closely you start seeing VW parts bin as well. Plus all german cars seem to develop a rattle early. I had a 2005 Lexus LS430 as a beater in Calgary and that was a great example of exceptional build quality even though it was old.

Porsche followed the scarcity trend that rolex/hermes/ferrari uses where you either have to buy their undesirable product line (taycan, macan, cayenne) and/or have a spending history to be graciously honoured with an allocation. As a customer, I'm not shameless enough to beg and kow-tow to buy a product at full price or above MSRP . Same goes for the civic type-r. We need another worldwide recession to kick this marketing tactic to the curb.

bcrdukes 07-03-2025 04:10 PM

I don't think it's fair to compare build quality of any Lexus to a Porsche. Toyota is WAY ahead of the curve there. :lol

Badhobz 07-03-2025 04:58 PM

You can’t compare Toyota build quality to German garbage. It’s not even close.

noclue 07-03-2025 05:15 PM

Ehh I dunno about modern toyota/lexus build quality. It's hit or miss like it seems in the effort to make fun cars toyota cut build quality from their budget, especially the ones made in USA/CAN.

1. Toyota Crown very good lexus like build quality. Toyota land cruiser awful hard plastics.
2. Lexus LX/LC still reign supreme in build quality but the LS seem like an afterthought no effort compared to the build quality of the LS430/460 in the past. Let's not talk about RX/ES/TX built in north america :(

I fucking LOVE the Toyota Crown. My wife and I were very impressed with the build quality. It rides so nice too! We'll likely place an order when one of our cars dies (likely the Boxster first. The Corolla won't die.)

[Move over, RC-F!]

Okay, I think we killed this thread with Porsche trash talk. Sorry, dark0821 :D

P.S. - Porsche is stupid.

Manic! 07-03-2025 06:54 PM

Can you even buy a base model Porsche? Don't you need to spent an x amount on options to be able to order one. New Porsche dealership should be opening soon in Nanaimo. Hope to see then fill out there cars at our gas station. The new Subaru next to Porsche already does and same with Mercedes.
