Definitely not 9-5. This is what makes this job really good for some. You can set your schedule. You can pick any 2 days off, day, mid, night, or split shift, Vancouver depot has compressed work so you drive more hours in a day and get 3 days off. Some work you only take on the routes of drivers on vacation, so you get a new route every week. Another is you can.be on a spareboard and get different routes every day.

Lots of work has built in OT too so you drive 8 hours but get paid 10 for example. Of course you'll need seniority to get good work like that.

It's very versatile.

Edit. Also heard from union rep sky train attendant is really chill. They currently get more than us and just sit in the station and play games on their phones. But you have to have the stomach of picking up squished bodies if anyone jumps...

Took the 351 to/from WR to Bridgeport no RS bus for me :(

Every morning on my way to the gym i also pass by the 351 while its parked on 152/16th, still havent seen the RS bus.

I am curious what are some examples of difficult situations you guys have to deal with on a regular basis?

Badhobz 11-18-2025 07:04 PM

^ Me spitting on them and throwing XLBs at them while driving would be one example.

mikemhg 11-18-2025 07:12 PM

I'm starting to wonder if people just gaslight their wealth rampantly on RS (outside of Hobz, Hehe, AstulzerRZD, Harvey, and that Marco guy from back in the day).

Everyone talks like they're making $300K+, but yet folks seem to be clamoring in this thread to join the 6-wheeled union to potentially make $100K.

I'm confused :)

I've heard so many stories from senior drivers. But mostly just the typical shit/pee/drugs/fight on the bus type of stuff.

Personally I had some crackhead give another dead crackhead CPR at the bus stop on main st station when I pulled up. The guy's head was right where my door was when I opened. Was my first week solo and I didn't know what to do so I called it in. That was a mistake as I was then told to pull over and wait since I called, this pissed off the whole bus because all those passengers are now going to be late. Long story short, my line instructor later told me to just ignore and carry on if I see those things. It happens so often and you don't know what blame people will throw on you and stress you out as the company puts you on admin leave while they investigate.

My classmate had a gunman go on his bus his very first solo day. Swat was called and took the guy haha.

All the exciting shit happens in the Vancouver and Surrey Depot. Richmond is so chill and easy.

:lawl:

Well I used to make quite a bit more as a business owner but now I make a fraction of that as a bus driver haha. Sometimes in life it's not always about the money.

Also just because you are making 300k yesterday doesn't mean you'll always be making that tomorrow, especially in Canada. Nothing wrong with loosing your ego to provide for the family. 100k is better than sitting at home making 0 waiting for the next opportunity.

But I'm sure you're correct in some people probably gaslighting haha

Eff-1 11-18-2025 07:27 PM

As a kid, I always wanted to be a bus driver.

Even today, I'd love to take a bus for a spin in a parking lot or something.

Every so often, part of me thinks like J____

And then another part of me says the following:

- I don't like early mornings
- Split shifts sounds AWFUL
- I don't like sitting in traffic jams
- I don't like terrible drivers
- I don't have a lot of patience
- I have no interest in dealing with the public (especially drunks, homeless, drug users, etc)
- People who don't follow the rules (like not paying fares) bother me

Probably not the best job for me.

Having being a business owner, it's much nicer to just clock in clock out get paid LOL. No worries no stress.

I only do it if I'm at the front of the bus in the GVRD but when I lived in Victoria I did it all the time b/c that just seemed to be the custom (Victorians are super nice people in general).

So I quit my 300k job last December due to my health issues (losing most of my hearing) and I spent the first half of the year mostly chilling and considering what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and one of the options was just to find some boring desk job at the City or a job at Costco so it'd be low stress so I can appreciate how a bus driver job could be appealing like that. None of the bullshit a $300k job brings with it.

I ended up starting my own consulting business in July so now I work 2-3 days a week. I'll probably only make 60-80k next year (I don't need to make any more than that) but I'm only doing work I want to do when I want to do it and I'm actually enjoying myself again. I walk my kid to school every day and my weekends are completely free to be a dad now. It's great.

Suggestion for supafamous: Become a silent investor or employee at LA Chicken. :D

whitev70r 11-19-2025 08:45 AM

or get on the bus to drive a bus ...

I have a friend who drives a bus and from what he tells me, it is far from 'stress free' or no bullshit. But maybe you just got to be in that zen state and let shit slide off your back.

Badhobz 11-19-2025 09:13 AM

i dont see how its stress free. i get so road ragey even driving to work. The only time im not road ragey is when i drive down to norcal / orgeon coast on my annual hobofest solo roadtrips.

I bet LA Chicken prints money - they have barely invested anything into the place over the last 20 years. I'm about to light some money on fire by becoming an angel investor so I'd totally throw money into LA Chicken. It can't be any worse than angel investing.

Badhobz 11-19-2025 10:47 AM

Pssshhh you think chicken man needs your money !!!!?!? He looks ready to murder everyone and burn the chicken hut down.

bcrdukes 11-19-2025 11:20 AM

I see a franchise opportunity and thinking of an expansion strategy. Hello, VCs!

Chicken Lady could probably use a deep dicking though. $20k + some deep dicking for 10% ownership.
