this is the other part I kind of dont "agree" with, but I dont have a better solution.
There are FOUR SIGN UP a year, once a sign up is done, you do the same shit (same routes, same times) until the next sign up.
Now since the next sign up isn't until January, and we graduated in between a sign up, we are like the "substitute teacher" of the bus drivers until January.
So we have our fixed day offs, but ther other 5 days of the week, we find out what time/what route/the number bus we are driving at 6PM the day before...
the senior drivers do the same route day in and day out they can almost auto-pilot this shit... but the new guys.... which are still very NEWBIE has to try to learn the routes on the fly every single day.... at different times of the day.... so... jusst be 100,000%%%% vigilant!!

But honestly, the process that dark listed sounds hard and rigorous to me, as it should be, because you have a lot of people's lives under your responsibilities. I wouldn't want some flake at the helm of a bus.

I'd be curious to learn how Translink drivers deal with that.
Here in Toronto/GTA, bus drivers/operators have a door/window where they don't talk to you whatsoever. Directions? Get bent. Need help? Get off the bus. Don't pay your fare? No fucks given. It was an interesting world when I moved here and was confused at how little interaction they have with passengers.

Lately my 2 year old has been really into buses, so we've been riding TTC, GO, and VIVA buses up and down Yonge street on morning weekends for fun.
I don't remember seeing any barriers. And they were always happy to chat, give me advice about routes/transfers, chat with my kid playing along with the whole "holy shit, yes that's the driver from Wheels On The Bus!!!" schtick.

People are far more accommodating and friendly when you're with a kid though, esp when the child is young. So I wouldn't treat your interaction experience with bus drivers when you are doing so with your kid as "normal when interacting with adults".
