well started on the clutch job on the car....almost the tranny out but the F'in Lower ball joint is lodged in there so i gotta think of somethin ot get those to come up...adn the axel nuts on the RSX arent 32" so ill have to get another size o well other then that its just hte tranny bolts and shes outta there
jeffh
07-28-2006, 10:14 PM
^ not sure what your lower ball joints look like, but my honda mechanics have convinced me anything other than a properly placed cold chisel and a mallet is a waste of time (properly placed being in an area you can wedge it with good leverage but still be a safe distance from the balljoint itself) takes my favorite monkey 10 minutes to do an axle on my car
AzN_ignite
07-29-2006, 12:12 PM
just give it one good hit with a big hammer, hit it with the nut on loose so you dont screw up the thread if you miss
Tchleung
07-29-2006, 02:38 PM
Those pickle forks/chisels are a JOKE. I use an actual ball jonit remover. It wedges itself on the bototm of the ball joint threads/nut, while other legs go on the boot like any other, but instead of ramming it in and forcing it out with teh angled forks, you turn a bolt on the end which actually spreads the jaws of the device open. WAY nicer on boots. Takes 30 seconds with no effort required other then a ratchet.
Something like this

jeffh

anything that pinches the boot that much is bad dice imo. i hope you keep alot of spare boots
Tchleung
07-29-2006, 04:19 PM
If you look at the way it's made. it's rounded. it hardly pnches the boot. it forms around the boot and touches the actual joint inside the boot. from the bottom portion. The big difference is you don't have a wedge pounding squeezing the boot. This is a constant smooth pressure that leaves the boot perfect.

I fucked it over a few years back in a dirtbiking accident and it hasnt been the same since. Its progresivly been getting worse. Something about damaged cartlage and the muscle on the back of the leg isnt working properly causing the muscle to just "stop working" when I've been standing too long. Not the greatest for long days at work...

-put in a set of BKR8EIX ngk iridium plugs, 3 heat ranges colder (suggested in my s/c kit)
-took out a bunch of antifreeze, put in a bottle of water wetter and topped it up with water. the previous owner thought it would be a GOOD idea to run antifreeze only, as it tested good to -52*c. Ouch on the cooling capabilities!
after this, it's already running better with less ping.
Edit* I also got Barb to rev up the car while I let the engine suck up water through the intake manifold. It's steamed and stuttered for a while, but after we went for a drive and cleaned it all out and then reset the ECU for codes... Wow it drives AWESOME now. I'm excited!!!! with a cooler thermostat the smaller pulley can safely go back on :)
proshoraca
08-06-2006, 05:07 PM
3 ranges colder holy shit, i've heard 1range/50 hp increase by about 7 different engine builders, but if thats what the company says, must be right.
-modded a new non-blown out u-joint into the front of my driveshaft in the pits, as the existing one shit the bed across the finish line while racing Shaun in the 1/4 haha.

08-06-2006, 05:10 PM
Woulnt more coolant be better? I'm running 95% strait water... had a cooling leak but is now fixed.
My mod... 3 days of mud and abuse and now she's clean... half hour in the fucking car wash GGRRR
down_hill_dog
08-06-2006, 05:11 PM
keep in mind in 01 Mazda decided to adopt vvt and 11.0:1 compression, add a supercharger and it's super hard to not produce ping.
adam, from what i've researched... More water than coolant cools better than more coolant than water!
Intercooler... Low air temps are key to making power.
Blowers make the same amount of heat as turbos. Its the compressing of air that adds heat, not the turbo itself.

do a 60/40 split if your worried about it, even 70/30. most race type cars will do a 70/30 if freezing weather is not a problem, cause the ethelyne glycol(green "coolant") if overmixed will create poor cooling. i'd go 60/40. water/"coolant" just test it when it gets colder out with one of those hydrometers with the little arrow to point which temp. freezing will occur
fourtirefire
08-07-2006, 06:43 AM
and if your really hardcore just run water and a bottle of watter wetter, then swap it out for coolant in the fall.

Danny, check the rubber in the rear window slider, fi the rubber is not in the right place it will jam up. In most G3's this rubber cushion is usually just sitting in the bottom of the door cause it falls out and causes that typical G3 window rattle.

The gas light came on so I thought i'd be able to make it into the winfield gas depot for some cheapo marked gas before heading up to dee and doing a few days of trails from there. Ran out of fresh water and beer... Cooler caught fire last night... ...fucking drunks... :flamemad:

Logan: looks great! definitely diggin' the h/lights
I put 1 blue H4 headlight in my car (not just the bulb...entire light hahaha) that I found in my buddy's basement...better than 2 sealed beams...will post pics...she looks funny. Angry pirate YARRRR
Also...there was a funny noise coming from the car the whole time I"ve owned it...everyone said it's exhaust, so I didn't give it too much thought....but always had a feeling that it's a loose brake caliper. So I ripped the wheel off over the weekend and sure enough...the caliper was held there by god's good grace...neither one of the mounting bolts were even TOUCHING the spindle...it was hot. Good to know this AFTER I've made several 185 km/h runs lol

heh i killed a near new set of $400 a tire pirelli's in around half a season, the marginal increase in dry grip the azenis would offer for the increased cost and decreased tread life isnt worth it.
to say they "kill" the MX is bs IMO. nowhere but here have i ever heard that. i dont auto-x so i dont care about how well they do in a slalom race. of course the advan neova is an amazing and unmatched tire, but at the rate i go thru rubber im not about to spend more than twice as much for something that i'll be done with just as quickly.
$150 a tire for my brand new MX's for the motherfucking win, NOTHING will come anywhere near these tires for that money.

Agreed when I was at Packwood SCCA solo2 event all the fast street tire guy's are running this tire. Beilive it or not the Mc Cormicks in there National winning civic ran the SPT's on the second day. And put down some amazing times thats a shaved street tire also. The MX needs more support.

I think my 91 S10 was caused from some other source of heat, since the transmission was slipping before i pulled over to see what the fuck was going on.
but ya my 89 Blazer was a wiring nightmare. i remember at one point when i pressed my horn the interior light would go on, and then one day it just buffed out and everything worked fine.

Day off today, I was finally able to get in and do and much needed complete clean-up of the interior of my car. I know it's a tiny little car, but with the weather and having no garage I did'nt have anywhere to clean it.
Also put in super heavy rubber floor mats for winter today, dropped the freeze point on my antifreeze and topped up the w/washer reservoir. Hopefully new tires should be on by end of the day :)

Did a hot oil flush, followed by a drain and fill twice. I've got a engine full of nice clean looking Mobil-1 synthetic 10w30. Also supporting the black steelies with a new set of all-seasons. Put in some Silverstar headlamps, lordco's high end wiper blades, WAI with a ractive cone filter and cleaned up and put a new gasket on the valve cover followed by a complete grease job... haha (only 2 upper ball joints)
Guess its time for window tint and the z24 body kit?

he means to say that in a street race he was faster than a car that ran 12.88.
so in reality its prolly still a 13.5 or so car, because fwd cant launch

today i took out the votex and silencer out of my airbox and cut out the back side of it and routed in some piping for a more direct roue than behind the passenger headlight, sounds better and i spool faster and get a full pound extra boost. for free it was great

SSAutoChrome makes some good shit
a lot of the wrx/sti guys use there fmic kits and have a lot of success

Too bad all their manifolds crack and fall apart. lol. Although they are SLWOLY getting better. I'm in the middle of putting one of their manifolds on a customers car(by choice).
But for the price, their IC and IC piping is definantly a good buy.. their FMIC are direct Precision knockoffs. their "swirl" turbo manifold is also a ONE-FAB manifold knockoff. all their bovs/wastegates are knockoffs. it's crazy! lmao
