i was thinking that it would be nice to have one of these where when we do a mod or anything different to our cars each day.. post it up so that others can get ideas for thier own modding enjoyment
and it doesnt matter how little it is, anything different could be that one thing someone else was thinking about doing but just didn't know how or etc...

anyways.. i'll start this off..
my mod of the day ( ok it was yesterday!) hacking open my airbox, it improved a hell of alot of flow and damn.. it sounds oh so nice

oh as well, today i ordered some new front brake rotors for an 89 integra ;) big brake swap could be done tomorrow if they get shipped on time!

A few days ago I repaired the mufflers on my bike for $10. I bought some fine steel wool and made a pad to cover the gaping rust holes, and then cut a section of aluminum ducting to wrap around it. A couple of hose clamps to tighten it up, and I've got a rust-proof fix that blends in with the chrome.

The sound of the bike went from :announce: to :coo:.

2 nights ago, i spent 6 hours with my buddy building a blingin custom amp rack and install for the trunk of the lude. took some creative work but looks absolutly sexy, i might snap some pics tomorrrow....its not done yet, still needs some side pieces but it looks fucken sexy....mike saw it.

today i did the full 89 integra front brake swap on my car, calipers, some blue pads(anyone know who makes blue backing plate pads?) and some new bigger rotors, i'd say the pads are about 30% bigger than my stock ones at least
end result is much better braking... just need to let the pads wear into the rotors before i get optimum braking performance

the shop leaks a little, moisture and metal = rust. its just on the surface. most cars have rusty rotors

Mine are worse. Been parked since Sept. 4th.

Canadian Rider
04-09-2004, 10:07 AM
ah ok.. i honestly didn't think brakes worked like that... mine has a tiny bit of rust around the outer edge (where the pad doesn't hit) and i was told i had to get it replaced (have new rotors in my garage) are you going to re-surface those?

and btw that's a sexy rear strut :)

TurboProbe
04-09-2004, 11:20 AM
Who told you that a bit of rust on the outside was a good reason to replace rotors? :wtf:

The only reason to replace rotors is warping, grooving, excessive wear, or anything else that keeps it from being a big flat disc.

For proof that rust != bad, take a look at the rotors on the cars sitting at a dealership. Brand new rotors usually have a bit of rust on them already.

Canadian Rider
04-09-2004, 11:31 AM
ok maybe it wasn't the rust being the reason they had to get replaced, though the mechanic never mentioned one besides the fact that he said they looked rusty and worn... i guess is should have payed more attention to the "Worn" part rather then the rust part :p

wow g13b thats some unreal work. I've been working on a swift at school doing all sorts of suspension work but nothing quite as custom as a rear coiliver setup. that front crossmember that ties the control arm mounts together..... did u fabricate that? i guess thats called a lower strut bar?

g13b_destroyer
04-09-2004, 09:19 PM
lower tie bar, it was made by a swiftracer (white swift with orange/blue stripes at knox) liam, i think he trolls around on here as 'MURR'... it actuall made the biggest difference when i put it on, i had an upper brace too, but i sold it casue it wouldnt have worked with my raised mounts.

Wow, looking hot. Going all SPL eh!!!! Nice amp, I'd assume it't be RF, but what series is it? Did I see 0G wire on the ground in there? Anyone who deals with sylvania deals with silverstars... seen em allover.

They are pretty bright overall, with a wider span.

I just hate how it gives my headlights the cat-eye look cuase the tip is dipped so far in (like jdm fogs on g2 jdm headlights).

I had the sylvania blue things at one point in time. And these are by far the best headlights i've used. (comparing to optilux superwhites, GE cool blue, every eurolite almost, and some other sylvania blue things)

why the hell would you run 8awg to a fuel pump? isnt factory like 16?

fourtirefire
07-11-2004, 09:52 AM
factory is like 18 or something, and it's been proven that under high boost when lots of fuel is required the fuel pumps have been running at near 10 volts because of the puny wiring, the thicker wire keeps it right up there near 14 volts = more fuel

the EBC's are expensive if you wanna dish out money for them. when I was running the manual boost controller. mines was spiking but found out later on I hooekd it up wrong hahaha :|

Saturn2nr
07-12-2004, 05:14 PM
Haha.. oh yeah. I might only have the cash to build the turbo kit 'cause pistons and what not are pretty friggin expensive for my car. I think I might just go with a electronic controller.. the Saturn motors can handle about 5psi max in stock form. the ring lands are kinda slim and pistons tend to "crush" if the boost is too much, so spiking would be a bad thing in my case. haha. if its able to hold 5psi steady it would be great my car would have no problems with that.

I ran 10 psi unintercooled periodically on my 10:1 compression Rabbit motor, and it still seems to work. Not sure how I got away with it. :D

Manual boost controllers aren't really any more likely to spike than an electronic, just make sure to minimize the "inertia" of the line to the wastegate: the less line and the less volume of air, the shorter the delay to wastegate response and the smaller the spike.

My mod of the day was reattaching my blown intercooler pipe. After 3 days of no boost, it feels pretty damn nice. :D

Kelly, That's a beauty setup right there.. Can't wait to see pics of the finished swap.. How much boost do you plan on running?

I'll probably keep it down around the stock 7 or 8 psi until I get the engine and clutch broken in (not to mention I have yet to decide on a boost controller..any suggestions?? I like apexi but wouldn't mind some input )

build your own... mine keeps a constant boost level without creeping, easy to adjust, and cost me ~17 dollars to build

proshoraca and i removed the transfer case, tranny, exhaust, random other shit in the way..got off my flywheel in 3 hours, luckily the clutch disc was only worn thru to the rivets on the pressure plate side, so my flywheel was spared, get it machined tomorrow and thrower all back together tomorrow night

I saw a pic one time of a 1ga with a stock lightened flywheel that went through the fire wall and the dash and made a big mess of the hood.

Not exactly the greatest for AWD, or a stock DSM fly.

proceded to complete the installation of everything, fire up the car, put in the clutch... won't go in gear.. clutch is not disengaging...., need to rip everyfuckingthing out again and space out the clutch fork pivot mount to accomodate for a slightly thinner flywheel

I have 4 konigs on my car once again. Took the cracked wheel in tues. They dis mounted the tire, sent the wheel to Konig in Sacremento Calif, They sent a new one back and Fountain had the wheel mounted and balanced for saturday afternoon. Props to Konig and Fountain Tire on the westside for a speedy turn around. "Manufacturers defects"... lol

Today I re-painted my rear calipers, did some misc. cleaning. Re-painted the muffler black and added some antifreeze. I love having such high compression I can't keep headgaskets in the car. I love being able to accelerate up a hill the same speed at which I would on the flat.

just thinking here.. did you ever get your block machined as well as the head?, could be a cause for some leakage there if it isn't perfectly flat

Suspension wise i want to get come tokico blues for the front, cause my KYB's are getting worn out. After that some new tires, CV shafts, bushings and lets go racin
