Just for starters. This will be the best game to ever grace the PS3 to date. Serious fanbase business.

I myself ordered the Limited Edition with Bonus DVD. Which was kind of cool.

http://www.fanboy.es/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/metal-gear-solid-4-portada.jpg

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final chapter in the saga of Solid Snake which sends him around the world in pursuit of his arch nemesis, Liquid Ocelot. Armed with new gadgets and abilities, Solid Snake must shift the tides of war into his favor, using the chaos of the battlefield to infiltrate deep into enemy territory. In his globetrotting final mission, Snake must sneak deep into enemy locations in the Middle East, South America, and other corners of the Earth to foil Liquid Ocelot's plans for total world domination.

* MGS4 pushes the power of the PLAYSTATION® 3 to its limits with cutting edge graphics and surround sound. It also aims to be the hallmark title for the new DUALSHOCK®3 controller.
* Command Snake in his final mission which spans the entire globe as he attempts to foil Liquid Ocelot and his massive army of PMCs.
* Influence the tides of war through both passive and active means. Snake can directly aid local militia who engage invading PMCs soldiers, or encourage more fighting to slip past undetected amidst the commotion.
* Unlock custom weapons and modifications as you trade weapons with your black market weapons dealer, Drebin.
* Providing Snake with his most advanced stealth suit to date, OctoCamo, allows Snake to blend in with his environment as it digitally manifests nearby textures in real time.
* Otacon is back to support Snake by providing new high tech gadgets, including Metal Gear Mk. II, the ultimate reconnaissance tool, and Solid Eye, which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings.

Maybe in this one, we would actually be able to kill (Liquid) Ocelot for good.

21 Days Remaining till Release!!!!!!!!! I WILL BE PICKING MY PREORDER UP MIDNIGHT!!!

This will be my first Metal Gear game since the NES. The PS1 and PS2 games looked overly complicated, and the controls sucked. But I hear that they fixed all that with this one, so I am looking forward to it!

:werd:huh?

judging from Metal Gear Online beta, nothing much has change from the gameplay since Sons of Liberty and SnakeEater..

only the shooting mechanics got a revamp...and a really pointless FPS mode... if anything else, GoP is overly complicated with slightly weak cover system and the Octocamo.. but then its not much different from the Camo system from SnakeEater..

everything controls the same, even the animation and movement.., from CQC/Throw/Choke, to running, crouching etc.......

play Twins Snakes (GC), Sons of Liberty and SnakeEater if i were, just for the storyline, its not the same as reading some summary of it from the internet..

Although not many people are fans of going back and playing games on previous consoles I highly suggest checking out the first MGS on the PS1. The controls in fact were not complicated at all. I pre ordered that game from Japana nd had it shipped over when it came out and finished that shit all in Japanese. What a head ache at times I didn't understand shit but still managed to finished it in a couple of weeks. Best PS1 game ever!

jaguar604 - 90 mins huh? Well it's nice that they now give you the option to pause or skip them but I think I won't be skipping anything. Metal Gear and their cut scenes are famous. The cut scenes are insane in MGS.

*edit, didnt see that the 90 minute cut scene news was already posted.....

Joystiq now has a headline CVG saying MGS4 has 90 minute cut scenes...... not containing a total of 90 minute cut scene, but an actual long length cut scene

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/23/breaking-metal-gear-solid-4-to-have-really-long-cutscenes/

this is most likely be the ending scene, as in Kojima already confirmed that this is the last of the Metal Gear Solid saga, (*although not the end of the Metal Gear franchise), so he might as well go all out with a bang for the ending....

Sons of Liberty's ending was around under 40 minutes long (totalling the amount from where Raiden was kidnap in the Arsenal Gear, not counting the interplay missions and the fight with Solidus) and Snake Eater is around 30+ minutes (same as totalling from near the certain end part of game, not including the The Boss battle)..

and is this suppose to include MGO..or is that totally separate?

right now, alot of websites are saying that this will be the first game to be released on Dual Layer BR.. and alot of game Pre-reviewers have been praising the audio on this game saying it surpasses what THX/Lucas Arts can do to movies..

Metal Gear Online will be included with MGS4 as a "Starter pack", meaning it will only contain about 5 to 8 maps.. with most likely more will be released on PSN in months to come..

my problem lies with the players in MGO, with my experience from Beta, people just run and gun each other, with no tactical or team effort being put on.. its like comparing Team Death Match to Search and Destroy on COD4, both modes completely changes the gameplay and experience, with S&D having more depth because of team based effort..
MGO is heavily promoted as a tactical combat game..

anyways for those who hasnt noticed, Meryl received a polygon revamp from her '05/'06 model to resemble a more realistic, older look, rather than an anime style

First, Konami and Hideo Kojima claimed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would be the final entry in the critically acclaimed series. Kojima confirmed it again at last year's E3, but since then, rumors of another MGS installment have sprouted up all over the Internet. And now, we've gotten a huge clarification that all fans need to hear.

According to associate producer Ryan Payton, MGS4 is simply the last chapter of the Solid Snake story. This most certainly doesn't mean the Metal Gear Solid name is finished. (source- MTV Multiplayer) His comment is clear and very encouraging for avid followers of the stealth pioneer.

"I think there's been some misconceptions that this is the last 'Metal Gear.' This is really just the last chapter of the saga of the Solid Snake story."

Basically, this means we'll most certainly see another MGS; it just won't feature one of the most recognizable characters in modern gaming history. And while we're dying to hear about a few possibilities, we have a more pressing question: will Kojima and Co. work on this new Snake-less MGS? Kojima has already said he wants to move on to other projects, and with Payton basically confirming that MGS will return... Well, we have to wonder whether the master will return. We can't imagine he'd just let another developer get their grubby mitts on his baby without his involvement.

one thing i found interesting from MGS1/Twin Snakes is that the Patriots were implied or referred to in the game....... by Kenneth Baker, he only referred to it as "them" which i thought was pretty cool considering how that was 3 years before Sons of Liberty and 10 years later now with Guns of Patriots..

Skinnypup, if you havent got a copy of any of the MGS series on the ps2, i highly suggest pick up MGS3: Subsistence, the 2nd disc includes the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, not the NES versions, well that is if you havent played it on any emulator yet..

the MGS Essentials collection does have MGS2 Substance and MGS3, but it doesnt have the 2nd disc of MGS3 Subsistence.., which is where the goodie extras are

The Gamecube version runs on an engine based on the Metal Gear Solid 2 game, so it plays almost identical to MGS2. MGS1 on PS1 is a lot simpler than on Gamecube.

Also, in the Gamecube version of MGS1 has cutscenes where Snake does unrealistic moves like backflipping to avoid missiles...

if you watch the first part of Metal Gear Retrospective, it mentions that Kojima self approve the new cut scenes in Twin Snakes after hiring the Versus director to create Matrix like cut scenes

Kojima was dissatisfied with the cut scenes from MGS1 being recreated for Twin Snakes and wanted something new...

although its true, people complaint mostly with some of Snake's moves like jumping onto a moving rocket or dodging Ocelot's Single Action Army revolver...

MGS2 had the Tanker and Plant chapters

MGS3 had Virtuos and SnakeEater mission

and judging from the last trailer.. the first chapter of MGS4 will take place in middle east and the 2nd will be in Eastern Europe it seems...

it wont matter, MGS4 will not sell as much as Halo and GTA4, no matter how hard they go with promoting this game

Halo and GTA series has always had mainstream success, and has been part of pop culture referrences over the years, ask a none gamer about Halo or GTA and they will know what it is.. its a household name, much like Hulk Hogan is known inside the wrestling world and outside...

MGS has always had a big following within the gaming community, but its just that, within the gaming community, mostly appealing to loyal fans, hardcore gamers, and a small percentage goes to new fans... the game will sell like crazy no doubt, but will not break records in the entertainment industry

but ya, besides, its better that it wont sell like crazy, gives us more of a chance to get a copy...

for those who have seen the 15 minute Hideo Kojima demo, it originally planned to have regenerating health like Gears of War (blood splatter and blurry vision, until u can see clear again), but looks like they went back the health meter along with the stamina gauge much like in MGS3

Will MGS4's Scores Top GTAIV?

It almost doesn't seem possible, given the ridiculously high scores for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, but Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots should also drag in maximum scores. Early indications are that GTAIV, now the highest rated game of the generation - and one of the highest rated of all time - will have a run for its money: MGS4 really might be that amazing.

IGN has just issued their MGS4 UK review, and it sits at an outstanding 9.9; only .1 lower than the perfect 10 given to GTAIV. OPM UK (and of course, OPM), has given that perfect 10 to MGS4 already, and if it wasn't for a bizarre 8/10 from Eurogamer, MGS4 would be right on track to equal or even surpass GTAIV in the overall rankings. We're still waiting to see more reviews, but the closer we get to June 12, the more we'll see...and you'll be seeing ours as well. We're already predicting screaming matches amongst publications at the end of 2008 when they go to assign Game of the Year awards. We're barely halfway through the year, and we already know that two are gonna butt heads. What about the last six months, when the likes of Gears of War 2 and Resident Evil 5 drop? Then what? Should everyone just hand out ten different GoY awards?

It's turning out to be one of the best years in gaming ever, and we're certainly not going to complain about that. Being able to go from GTAIV to MGS4 will be a treat not often tasted.

The saga continues (we love saying that).

With all the rumors swirling about claiming Konami has told various publications not to mention certain "technical details," like the length of the cut-scenes, load times, and required HDD space for the installation, news has been huge lately. Everyone is asking if Konami could really be doing something that flies in the face of journalistic integrity. What's the deal? Well, one of the original sources of the rumor, the MTV Multiplayer blog, has heard from editors at both Game Informer and PlayStation: The Official Magazine, who said that Konami didn't impose any restrictions on their MGS4 review. But at the same time, the EGM fiasco continues; as they said Konami did ask them to avoid certain topics in their review, thereby resulting in the magazine refusing to score the game. They do say, however, that their review will be in next month's issue. Again, here's EGM's explanation on the matter:

So why dont we have a full review this issue? Simply put: We werent happy with the limitations Konami wanted to impose on our comments, and rather than publish compromised reviews in the interest of being the first to rate the game, wed rather wait until next issue, where we can be completely open and thorough with our thoughts.

We're still not sure what's going on, as Konami has stayed completely silent on this issue and we certainly haven't heard anything about Konami "imposing limitations" on MGS4 reviews from any online gaming publications. Perhaps this is just another "blown way out of proportion" scenario, but if so, we expect to hear a clarification from Konami at some point. We'll keep you updated. And remember, the review you see from PSXE will be the real deal; no restrictions, limitations or any other outside influences will affect our analysis.

90-Minute MGS4 Cut-Scenes A "Gross Exaggeration"

HA! We are vindicated once again. You may recall when the whole 90-minute MGS4 cut-scene rumor started, and as you can see in that first article, we questioned its validity. Personally, I've seen gamers and even critics over-exaggerating the length of cut-scenes for years, and it's only because of psychology: when our gameplay is interrupted, the interruption always seems to last a lot longer than it really does. This is why people were claiming games like Xenosaga had hour-long cut-scenes all the time, when in fact, the average length was about 15 minutes. It also doesn't help that certain gamers have the attention span of a gnat.

I assumed this phenomenon had taken place again with this rumor, and it seems I was right. After PSW and EDGE claimed there were 90-minute cut-scenes in MSG4, assistant producer Ryan Payton has come forth to completely shoot down this rumor. Here's what he told Kotaku:

I'm surprised nobody has stepped forward to debunk this rumor. There are no 90 minute cutscenes in MGS4. The ending is long, but 90 minutes is a gross exaggeration.

Bingo. We're certain there are going to be some very long cut-scenes in this game, and the ending may even creep close to 45 minutes or an hour or so. But when the rumors began to swirl that multiple cut-scenes lasted an hour and a half, I had to hearken back to the days when some of the insanely ignorant were calling Final Fantasy games "movies," and that they'd rather "play than watch." ...considering FFs take about 40-50 hours to beat, and considering not a one held more than a couple hours of cut-scenes total, this was the type of exaggeration that drove me nuts. It was going to happen again with MGS4, but thankfully, we have a clarification. Thank you, Mr. Payton!

its a whole world, some people are lucky getting the game early..

any word if FS and BB already received their stocks and just getting it prepped up for thurs or are they getting the games shipped to the stores on thurs?

with the exception of Halo and GTA4, most hyped games doesnt arrive early on major retails stores til couple of days of its official release..

i picked up the regular edition today because the limited editions dont arrive til tomorrow or even worst, next week.. and im not waiting another week to play this, i already waited 4 fucking years for this game..

popped the game in and watched the 8 min install time, pretty amusing, well at least they tried to entertain you with some Snake animation and text while you wait

lol at the intro, thats all i gotta say about the game
fuack now im willing to take a day off at work just play this baby..

anyways, im not settling with the regular edition, when my limited edition copy comes in, im selling my current one for $50, saves you $10 and tax, so for those still contemplating on getting the game, buy it from me cheap, but thats when my LE comes in..

then later on today, EB called me saying that my LE has finally arrive, now im deciding wether to get the LE and sell my normal copy or just not get it

how is the blu ray disc on the LE? how long are the documentaries..

i remember the Halo 3 LE being such a rip off, the documentaries, all add up to no more than 40 mins in whole..

im a big MGS fan, but i want to know if the documentaries on the MGS4 LE is enough to paying extra $20 for, i know the soundtrack is included but bleh...

Quoted from IGN's review

"Further helping the game showcase its heightened visuals is the fact that the title performs a large basic install for eight minutes, with individual act installs at the end of every chapter. These secondary installs take only a few minutes, but are quite important"

So it does seem that after every act/chapter/level whatever you want to call it will include a brief install

few fun things i found, might have minor spoilers:

-first time u meet naomi theres a hidden L1 scene allowing u to look up her skirt
-During a cutscence, you can shake your controller to return snake to his regular camo
-in the Shadow Moses when at Otacon's office... he asks you for the code... input 14893 (deren's freq) that will give you 100,000 DP points!
-in the vista mansion there's two posters of akina minami, when snake views these in first person he will call out the models name and his psyche guage will go up
-if you call rose on the codec and shake your sixaxis, her boobs will jiggle.
-the game Sunny is playing on the p2p (in the briefing for Act 2) is Penguin Adventure, the first game designed by Hideo Kojima, for the MSX in 1986.

^^ the movie has long been planned for years now

its no where near closed to being settled and actors being cast but Hideo Kojima has been pursued by studio companies for years, he wants it to happen.. just the right script, director and obviously good production value awaits

MGS storyline is too rich, too detail and too complicated to be told in a trilogy, and ill be fucking damn if this franchise is treated just like another video game to movie genres....

Spoiler for Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Revelations from MGS4

i dont know how many of you guys played Portable Ops but at the ending credits, you hear again Ocelot talking to an unknown person on the phone talking about starting an organization and wants Big Boss's cooperation with them.. Through out the story, Gene referred to this powerful man as the same codename as Null (Grey Fox), which in other words, "Zero".. since the game has been released, people's speculations turned out to be true as Big Mama said that it was Major Zero, was one of the major players of The Patriots

The squads that Big Boss/Snake started up in this mission is the actual foundations of Foxhound, Gene's passing of the Philosopher's Legacy as well as Ursula's prophecy of the Metal Gear made it an unescapable faith for Big Boss to do what he has to do and eventually go againts Zero and US..

now that MGS4 has been released, MGS: Portable Ops stance as part of the MGS storyline has made it now a bigger important role to understand fully what is going on with The Patriots and Big Boss..

One of the minor complaints that fans gave to Hideo after MGS3 was released was that the Cobra Unit wasnt given a back story at all, which made the players less compassionate about killing them, MGS1 and 2 bosses, had back stories either told by them or through other people, in which you actually understand why you fought and killed them etc....

it shows that Hideo listen to this and made Drebin explain each character's bio from the B&B unit.. and in great depth.. another props to Kojima for this..

MGS storyline has always been full of twist and surprises...

just finished the game... holy fuck at that ending.......

but it was worth it, a good closure... ..

Here is another slight trivia regarding Para-medic and MGS1

Q) Okay, they say in the story of MGS4 during the meeting with EVA that Paramedic became Dr. Clark at a later date.

Are we to assume that she is the same Dr. Clark that was killed by Grey Fox after he was brutally experimented on? Because last I checked wasn't Dr. Clark a man?

A) Yep, Dr. Clark aka Para-medic was killed by grey fox
They changed Dr. Clark from a "he" to a "she" in the graphic novel of MGS1

A)Errrr...this is taken directly from the MGS game script found right here on GameFAQS:

Naomi : It happened right after you retired. My predecessor, Dr. Clark,
was in charge.

Campbell : Dr. Clark...

Naomi : Yes. He started the gene therapy project.

Snake : And where is he now?

Naomi : He was killed in an explosion in his lab two years ago.

So...yeah.

so finally beat the game last night so iv moved on to MGO

they improved the game slightly from the beta test back in april..

the game definitely has some depth to it, its too fucking bad that 80% of the people you play with dont have headsets to communicate from.. i find myself talking to just another person in my team.. and this is a heavily team based multiplayer, even on team death match

but like Oshin said, we gotta start a clan, i got used to 360's Live friend invite, so im still getting used to know around PSN' friend list invite..

and some slight tips, dont treat MGO like COd4 with Run and Gun shoot, or you will get ur ass handed down by vet players with CQC.. the game has great depth if you take advantage of the skill system..

and fire in short small burst, if you try to spray in this game, the recoil will get soo bad and you will be shooting air instead...

i think there is a friendlist within MGO

i assume its using a different account from PSN, its using the Konami game id that you signed up with, which is what requires to add to your MGO friendlist

well my psn is blindpupp3t

my konami id is dubb.fox

and my character name is DubFox

so hopefully either one of those works..
the voice chat in the game is glitchy i notice, sometimes nobody hears me.. so hoping a new patch is released

and damnit, MGO servers is shutdown at the moment, their doing a maintenance fix..

I need some help with MGS canon because I just pondered something in my head and it makes no sense

If you played Metal gear 1 and 2 and MGS you know that Frank Jaeger aka Grey Fox (Cyborg Ninja) was sent to kill Big Boss in Metal Gear 1 but got captured and Snake was sent in to rescue him and kill Big Boss. In metal gear 2 Frank joins Big Boss and Snake cripples him and kills big boss.

Because of what Snake did to Frank, Dr. Clark experiments on him and turns him into Cyborg Ninja.

Frank Jaeger, at his youth was experimented on by the CIA to be the perfect soldier. He went by the code name Null. Null is Zero, so is he Major Zero from MGS3?

If he is then Frank Jaeger is one of the founders of the Patriots. Also, Zero and Big Boss feuded until Big Boss left to form outer haven. This is where I get confused......because Frank is sent to kill Big Boss.....he then joins big boss....and then when big boss is killed Major Zero has Big Boss put into that life support thing.

Is Jaeger Major Zero?!

you find out in MGS2 that she was put in prison but shortly after someone broke her out
It is heavily implied that she was freed by Solid Snake

Infact, she was freed by Ocelot
In MGS4 Ocelot becomes Liquid OCelot because he takes Liquid's arm
This is false, it is an elaborate lie....sparing you the details of what happend just know that it is Ocelot all along, there is no Liquid Ocelot.

No he is not.. you have to play MGS3.. now that after finishing MGS4, this is when you realize how important of a canon MGS3 is as you get to witness, the then eventual founders of the Patriots in action

Major Zero and Grey Fox/Frank Jaegar are 2 completely different characters

Major Zero appears in MGS3 as the Colonel Campbell like supporting character to Naked Snake/Big Boss

another important canon to the series which is sadly, not a whole lot of people that get to play with is MGS Portable Ops for the PSP, which is essentially a sequel to MGS3's storyline and timeline

A character named Gene gets the Philosopher's Legacy, which is then gets defeated by Snake/Big Boss, he then gets handed over the Philosopher's Legacy, while during this time, Gene mentions of a man he has dealt with, the story and game never directly calls the character Major Zero but instead refers to him as the same codename as Null (as Frank Jaegar)

but yes, play MGS3 to fully understand The Patriots and the Legacy

Wasn't MGS3 Snake Eater, well before MSG1??? Because in Snake Eater you play as Solid/Liquid Snake's father. I think the timelines won't match.

I just hate it that so many parts of the story are completely unexplained, and therefore the acting does not go with what has been happening at all.

This game is SO good at some times, among the best I've played. But other times (usually after about 45 minutes of sitting through another fucking cutscene) it is SO BAD. But you can't just skip the cutscenes, or there would be no point in playing.

What this really does is make me hopeful that someone will copy the gameplay style of the 2nd act. Maybe Splinter Cell will do that or something.

I do plan on playing it a second time through (already went through act 1 twice, after learning how to play the first time). Maybe I'll play the first 2 games before I go through again (or at least the 1st and 3rd, as I hear MGS2 is pretty bad)

^^ thats what i was thinking after finishing it, the game doesnt do a good job of giving a back story or introducing new gamers to the story

however, that could be well overwhelming if it did try to cater to the new gamers...

its a conclusion of the story, which covers every aspect of the whole series storyline..

thats why the MGS series is either a love and hate franchise, gamers love it for creative boss battles, stories and jokes, hardcore gamers hate it for focusing mostly on storyline rather than gameplay..

other than that, the game is perfect at telling the story and explaining it to conclusion to MGS vets like us..

MGS 2 was considered bad because of its long codec dialogues, other than that, if you hate MGS4 now, then expect to hate the previous 3... their all the same in terms of gameplay and story telling..

anyways just got to level 1 on MGO, Im focusing on my quarterback, cqc, assault rifle and SMG skills

somebody with a higher cqc skill gave me a good run last night, the fucker decided to disarm me with all my weapons leaving me with my stun knife........ haha sweet ass battle we had, i eventually lost but we started knifing each and jumping around for a good 5 minutes

Oshin
06-17-2008, 09:39 AM
haha yea,,, and those higher lvl peeps can inject some shit on you and then can locate the enemy team through nanomachine. I heard if you can get cqc to level 3, you can hold them and press triangle for neck kill just like when you were Snake. dub.g i was trying to find you yesterday through player search, I typed DubFox but no search.. let me know when your on again because I won't be on til tonight.

dub.g
06-17-2008, 09:45 AM
hmmm if DubFox dont work, try dubb.fox its my game id

but ya, i wont be online til later tonight as well..

i dont even know why they made it soo complicated and decided konami to run their own servers.. you have to make a konami id, a game id and a character name.. WTF!

also, its such a rip off, for those starting with MGO, make sure you pick the right character look for your game because once you finish, you cant change your accessories, vest etc... the server will charge you extra money if you want an additional character slot and accesories that is strictly for looks and not viable to the gameplay...

i just hope they give us the option to install MGO on the hard drive seperately instead of the hassle of going through MGS4 menu and then to MGO...

yeh mgs predates mgs1 by i think......erm 1960s for MGS3 and mgs1 is 2005. I got confused with the port. ops psp game where they refer to Jaeger as the one also known as Null....and somehow I either read, or imagined, that Null was the same as Major Zero who was one of the founders of the Patriots but now that I've had some sleep it does not make sense that Null can be Zero because Zero is already so fuckin old in MGS3 and Null was in port ops which happens AFTER mgs3. Chalk it up to be dumb lol

finally beat it! awesome ending

overall I liked MGS3 the best out of the whole saga

nothing beats some of the innovative boss fights in Snake Eater especially the sorrow's and the end sniper duels and eating that bastard's parrot

@ Skinnypupp if you liked MGS4 I think you will really enjoy MGS3. The game will explain and help answer a lot of questions from MGS4 and the overall presenation is just as good, if not better imo, as MGS4. The only thing is I found MGS3 the hardest of the saga due to no radar and the whole hunt for food for stamina wasn't really vital as there was animals to kill everywhere.
Awesome trailers too haha even though that doesn't really account for much:

there is still major issues with communication in MGO, although the amount of people that you play with headsets have increased, majority of the time, you cant hear other players at all..

but when it does work, serious teamwork is really fun and what makes this game stand out from the average multi frag fest

here is tip, if you stand next to your teammate with both of you not moving, press triangle to do a salute taunt, then you 2 or any other team mates near you will link up your "nanomachines" together like that scene with Meryl, then any players that linked up with you, you can see what they see where the enemies are, its like an x ray vision through walls, just as long as the team mates you hook up with has the enemy on their sight

really cool concept..

Oshin
06-18-2008, 04:03 PM
yea the nanomachine part is really cool,, I'm on right now... if anyone is playing ,, my ign is Oshin

dub.g
06-18-2008, 05:57 PM
haha another tip is a good one, that is if you have fast fingers

lets say someone is trying to CQC u and you know your on the loosing end (by a millisecond), quickly equip your grenade and press L1 to ready up to throw the grenade, if the guy succeeds at CQC'ing you, you will drop the grenade you were holding while you had L1 press, haaha its a good saviour and strategy as while the guy tries to choke you out, ur 'nade blows up on your feet and takes you and the guy out.... i did this 3 times so far... i manage to survive with little health the last 2 tries..

i play this game too much, well actually iv only had a total of 4hrs and 30 mins of gaming into it.. trying to level up my blade and CQC skill... the quarter back is easy to level up, just keep throwing grenades, even if you dont kill anything, as long as your throwing the grenades, your skill increases..

Oshin ill see if i can add you, did you add me on ur MGO friend list? i didnt get any notification

also, we need to be on the same server... and mostly Snake gets fill up quick

Oshin
06-18-2008, 06:30 PM

but ya i even received your message

holy crap, you played a total of 20 hours already eh? and damn only on level 4?

but thank goodness that this isnt COD4 where you can max level up in a week..

but ya, 5 hours and im stil at level 1.. i had to go offline, ill come back on around 10 or 11pm if i can..

for the others who hasnt played MGO and reading this past couple of messages, this shows you how fucking difficult it is to look each other up on MGO when you have to come up with 3 different usernames just so you can log online.... but its worth it

This game is either you hate it or love it. Everyone has their own perspective, I personally love it because I like doing cqc on people then choke slam them on the ground. Anyways, you can't really say is the worst online game because,,,, there are many worst ones out there. I have played both COD4 and Halo online many times, They are great games nonetheless but you can't have the fun of rolling on barrels and hiding in cardboard box... I just love it when I hide in an alley in a box,, 90% of the time,, I fool them and pop out and cqc choke. Also, most games are fanboy... so you can't say we are retarded for loving the game so much.

max out my cqc and quarterback skill, close to maxing out my knife skills.. now i can finally go back to normal

had a pretty good tactical game last night, for once 6 out of 8 of my teammates had a headset

played the game mode capture, haha we came up with the strategy of getting everyone knocked out with a stun knife, then not killing them so no one can respawn for 20 seconds, and then kill them when they nearly wake up..

the game actually encourages you to camp but for time to time. but when you kill someone, it shows the other player where your position was and then can hook up with the SOP to reveal your spot once they spawn back up if one of the team mates manage to inject you with a syringe during a cqc...

Skinnypupp.. Where in my post did I say omg MGO rules and defend it. Obviously every game has its flaws. Did I like the game? Yes but I'm not going to go around trying to ram my opinion down someone's throat like what you're doing by systematically calling everyone a retard. Just saying from what I see you're just raging out like its a 5 for 1 bluelight special.

You don't like various aspects of the game good for you. Here's an e-pat on the back for elevating your cognitive level to that of a normal human being who has different opinions than other people. Who would've guessed? not everyone likes MGS, but does that mean going around raging like you've been injected with roids straight to your cerebral cortex make you "intellectually" superior? I don't think so. Get over yourself... or if you'd like I'll send you a full body sized mirror so you can look at yourself and orgasm over your clever wittiness and ability to see what the "sheep" of society can't see.

I see people stabbing me when they are on crouch mode,, but I never seem to hit them when they are on ground,, my knife always go straight =( Dub if you know what I mean, hit me up.

P.S: if any of you finished mgs 4,,, join MGO=) we need the whole revscene crew,, then that'll be fun haha

I don't care if someone else agrees with my opinion or not. In Fact, i would LOVE it if someone could convince me otherwise! I paid money for this game, and would like to be able to fully enjoy it.

But instead of that, everyone decided that the issue was the fact that I didn't like MGO, and that I thought it was stupid. That's where the retarded behaviour came in, and hence why I called you all retards.

Now instead of talking about the game, you guys are still going on and on about me, and how I have this huge ego for... sharing my opinion? I don't even know anymore.

Still waiting for some sense to come out of this...

From what I can read in this thread, you simply declared MGO sucks and proceeded to spaz on everyone when dub.g clearly was not defending the game, but actually agreeing with you, saying specifically that you shouldn't have expected much different gameplay from the single-player campaign. It really went downhill when you maybe due to pms or something blurted out "Please STOP DEFENDING this fucking game. Enough with the fanboy bullshit."

On top of that, what's happened with your opinion is quite the opposite as I dont think people care too much about your thoughts any more. They probably did before you misunderstood dub.g's comment and started spazzing about how everyone is a fanboy when no one was really defending the game to the death or whatever you said along those lines.

But that's just what I make of the situation.

*edit :drama: in computer tech forum..

See the problem with using quantifiers like everyone places a blanket statement over everyone. I never thought it was an issue that you didn't like MGO.. Hell you could've come in here and said halo3 is the greatest game ever and that you like to eat stillborn babies. What I thought was hilarious was how you reacted to a few users getting upset and your subsequent raging.

Retardation in your case begets more retardation.
The thing is, I was discussing the game beforehand, positives and negatives. Every time I said something positive about it, everyone agreed. Every time I said something negative, people acted like retards. Then after a frustrating round of MGO, I stated that it was one of the worst online games I've ever played. Then the fanboys really freaked out. After that, everyone got all upset about it, flaming me and (again) acting like retards.

It can be said that not all MGS fans are retarded, but definitely all retards are MGS fans.

Oshin, you need a level 3 blade to slash throats on CQC, level 2 blade allows you to move quicker while slashing... like i said, when you get to level 3 and it takes 3 slots, its kinda pointless to take your max out abilities, unless your playing for a clan or in a competitive match..

also you have to go in First person view mode, then aim down at the body on the ground and slash, ya i got this figure out just yesterday too.... lol

/////

omg this is too easy, i cant resist not reply back to a "retarded topic" im sorry..

just like everyone else has said before, can you please pinpoint in the 5th page of this thread WHEN the fanboys started acting like retards, just quote something, please..............

Your just ignoring everyone's else comments and your just focusing on your EGO/ E-smugness...

Finally, someone who wants to talk about the game, rather than trying to stroke my e-peen.

I LOVE this game, particularly the 2nd act. If they can make a full game using that mechanic, it has the potential to be a Game of the Year contender.

I've played through the first 2 acts THREE times now, and the first act FOUR times, all using different tactics. I tried to get through without killing anyone, but my progress was cut short due to design flaws (at one point, Meryl jumped in front of my while shooting, and at another point I happened to be walking by an enemy spawn point right when new enemies spawned).

I was talking to Hyde last night about how great it would be if they remade MGS1 using this new engine... those who beat the game will realize why. As much as I'd love to play through all the old games to 'catch up' I think the poor controls would cause them to be unenjoyable.

As it stands rite now I personally think it already has the potential to be Game Of The Year. To say it needs to change the game just to have the potential to be in the running is a bit crazy to say. Just my opinion though

The fact that it's 20% game and 80% movie automatically invalidates it from contention, IMO. Maybe make a new category "best interactive movie of the year" or something... Although that 20% is GREAT, it's not THAT great. And the 80% is of little to no value to anyone but long-time fans (which is NOT a good thing, by the way, for most people).

It's a fair argument from your standpoint although probably no video game website, award show etc will say because the game is 80% movie that it will not be able to contend.

well i have my own bluetooth headset for my phone but i used the jabra blue tooth headset that came with Warhawk when it was released last august, i remember buying the game and the headset for $40, really good deal...

if you can still find the Socom usb headsets for like under $20, then get one, i heard their pretty good...

otherwise, ask Skinnypup, he seems to know pretty much anything and i do mean anything about the internet... dont try to contradict him though, because Skinnypup is right and the whole world is wrong...:)

Quick question.

I love FPS games and I love CoD4 on PS3. It's pretty much the only game I played on PS3 although I have many other games.

This week MGS4 is on sale for $49.99 in ToysRUS. I am thinking about picking it up. The only MG game I played a bit was Metal Gear Acid and I hated it. Do you guys think I will like MGS4 at all?

Acid is nothing like the other metal gears. AC!D is card based. Turn Based. MGS games are Real Time. YOU WILL LIKE IT. play the other ones as well to get a history on what happens in this game, or you will just be playing for the sake of playing and won't really understand what's going on.

So do you think I need to play the previous sequals to understand what's going on with MGS 4? How about the portable ops on PSP? Would that help at all?

The writers at 1Up.com have really been on top of it since before launch. Jeremy Parrish seems to have the best grasp of things, as a hardcore MGS fan who can see the flaws. Then there is Shane Bettenhausen who seems like nothing more than a fanboy when he talks about the game. And on the other side of it you have Shawn Elliott whose opinion is pretty close to mine about the game... Just click on MGS4 in their 'top games' list, it will link to all the articles, and read their blogs. That should get you started!

another newbie question.

Is the game play of MGS4 similar to MGS Portable OPS besides HighDef? Like the action and all? Is it true that it has a lot of reading?

Oshin
06-25-2008, 10:17 AM
dude ,, the original mgs gameplay is nothing near to portable ops... portable ops is a side bonus by Hide Kojima. The gameplay itself is something like GTA 4,, where you see the back of your guy, and you move and sneak. Is a stealth game but with plenty of actions. I suggest you to do like google search and go on youtube,,, then you'll actually see the gameplay.

P.S: Just buy the fucking game,,, you have nothing to lose.

dub.g
06-25-2008, 08:29 PM
actually i wouldnt suggest anyone to buy this game and jump into the bandwagon (like i said before)

MGS4 does poorly to introduce new gamers just because it is a conclusion to the story and since this game is heavily story based game, the characters, climaxes and the conclusion wont have much impact than it is to those fanboys, and those who have played the previous games (yes there is a difference)

there is just too much information being told, its like saying your going to watch LOTR Return of the King without watching the first 2 (without being familiar to the story at all), you wouldnt know what the fucking deal is why they climbing a mountain to burn a measely ring...

play the previous 3 and Portable Ops if you want to get a full experience on MGS (that is if you can put up with hours, and hours of story telling, the previous MGS games does have lengthy cut scenes and dialogues as well...

and :werd: to compare Portable Ops to GTA4

Portable Ops is based on MGS3 gameplay and engine, which essentially is based on the previous MGS games, to simply put, Portable Ops is indeed an MGS game...

MGS4 is no different, except this time, players are given the option to take the more action oriented route, rather than sneak around.. but essentially, all MGS games are pretty much similar in gamplay, with the exception of Ac!d of course..

after finishing MGS4, now i realize how important a canon Portable Ops is to the storyline..

basically, yea I agree with you dub. But seriously though,, go buy mgs 4,,,, and other mgs series..... or,,, go watch on youtube like me,,, I've been bored before mgs 4 came out and I was watching codec calls and movie scenes from the mgs 1 + mgs 2 + mgs 3 all on youtube to refreshen my memory. just finished the game ( total game time was about 21 hours, including cutscenes and gameplay) and here's my review based on the single-player mode:

Graphics - 9.5/10
This game has some of the best facial and clothing textures I've ever seen - amazing! The lighting effects are breathtaking as well and really add to the atmosphere of the game while playing. The environments are very detailed and well modeled and again, the effects are simply amazing. Everyone with a PS3 should at least borrow or rent this game just to check out the graphics, even if you're not a fan of this type of games. The only few flaws were the slower frame rates during heavy on-screen action and some aliasing issues on certain objects, but everything else was done almost perfectly. Simply awesome.

Gameplay - 10/10
I love how you can choose your own way of getting through the game; you can either do the Rambo thing and kill everything you see, or you can play it like it's meant to be played - stealth all the way. This guarantees at least TWO play throughs using 2 very different styles. Perfect.

Control - 8.5/10
Having played quite a few 3rd-person shooters/action games, I have to say that while good, the control in this game COULD be improved. It's not always the most responsive and for a stealth game, doesn't have the most elaborate collection of stealthy moves. Compared to another PS3 exclusive, UNCHARTED, this game felt slightly sluggish and more restricted. Overall though the game controls very well and the gun fights, whether you're using the 1st person view or the 3rd person view, are very exciting to go through.

Story - 8/10
I've played MGS1 and MGS2, but skipped MGS3, and have downloaded the MGS database thingy off of PSN so that I could catch up on the story line, but still at the end of MGS4 I felt a little confused at some of the plots and twists in the game, and didn't quite understand all the information that was presented by the cutscenes. I think the problem with MGS stories is that they're too dense and you don't really have enough time to digest everything before more info is being thrown at you, and sometimes you have to accept some really far-fetched ideas so that the story can make some sense.

Overall though, the story is interesting enough to hook you in, and ties up all the loose ends from the previous MGS games. I wouldn't call it a brilliant story though.... but some of the ideas are interesting and should make a pretty good movie.

Sound and Music - 10/10
OH MY GOD. If you have a 5.1 surround setup you will absolutely love this game (Dolby TrueHD). The environmental sound effects, the guns, and the explosions are some of the best I've heard. Definite ear-candy if you have the right setup. Music, once again, is top-notch, and really gives the game a movie-like experience. This game and UNCHARTED are 2 PS3 games that should be bought based on SOUND alone - definitely worth it!

Cutscene and Voice acting - 8.5/10
Everyone should know by now that this game is almost half cutscenes and half gameplay, so it makes sense to have a rating just for the former. Overall the cutscenes are VERY well done and some are almost movie-like, and are worth watching through with great attention. Some though, are WAY too long and could use some editing for sure, so that the pacing of the game could be a little better. Voice acting is top notch, except for maybe a few moments where I thought it was over the top / too cheesy.

Be prepared to sit for a long time between gameplay, though. Some cutscenes are REALLY, REALLY long. lol :haha:

Overall - 9.5/10
The best PS3 game so far. Get it.

the MGS 1, 2 and 3 bundle are the MGS Essentials bundle that was released back in April

it has the re issue cd of MGS1, as well as the hard to find MGS2 Substance

and ya, the MGS3 Subsistence only contains 1 disc instead of 2, well thats because the original Subsistence, disc 2 contained the first gen MGO, however it also contained Metal Gear 1 and 2, the MSX versions..

get the Essentials collection if you can, they already stop making prints of it about a month ago, so their starting to dissapear at stores...

The best part is the fact that instead of swapping discs, which takes about 10 seconds, you have to install portions to the hard drive, which takes like 30 minutes in total... Yeah that joke was pretty much an epic fail :lol
