well i didnt say it's superior to porsche in overall performance. we had both the cars side by side driving on highway, and both manual transmissions. I'm not going into details, and it doesn't really matter if you believe it or not. I have driven quite a few different porsches in my life and I can say 996 C4S doesn't really offer anything special in any category. Personally rather have a 993 C2S/C4S, not necessarily more powerful but definitely more pleasant to drive. real Porsches are RWD and non-tiptronic PDK bullshit.

Good point, and it really all depends on how you use the car. If you like to drive fairly aggressively just passing cars, it's really quite nice having AWD when in a rush, knowing that your hard acceleration is not going to cause you an unpredictable delay when the traction control kicks in.

This may not be a big issue with the rear biased 911 but is particularly bad with front engine AMG when in the wet, a weather condition which we do see here in Vancouver all the time.

I actually find it easier to get from point a to point b most quickly in a E550 4matic than the E55 or E63. Of course, on the highway without the traction issue, it's a completely different story.

I dont know about you but the older M3s are all really good (e30, e36, e46 etc.) are all "raw" cars that cars nowdays do not have. Even the e36, its not as bad as you might think it is. A member here has a blue E36 M3 and it looks SICK. Handles really good and he came from a e92 335i tuned, and is running much faster times with couple hundred HP LESS on the track (PR, Mission) with his e36 compared to his 335. Then we have our local Auto-X expert who drives a e36 (lowside67) who loves his e36 and always places top in most auto-x events locally and nationally i believe as he participates in auto-x events in the states too, so I wouldn't hint that e36 owners are unhappy with their e36. The E9x M3 is a good car but after test driving one it just doesn't feel anywhere as "raw" as its predecessors. But that doesn't make it any less of a fast/good car. But then again, everyone is different, like their taste in cars.

and Yes to your second statement, after this thread Marco makes most porsche owners want to go away and hide since most Porsche owners here aren't exactly drive the car for the whole "0-60" speed but how the car handles and drives on the streets or track (Z3guy, Rich Sandor, Obsideon are a few to name here that are porsche owners here on RS) who could care less if their car isn't as fast as other cars off the line. Its about the driving experience.

It's a '73 Land Rover Series III 88" station wagon on a military chassis. That's an old picture though; it's no longer green. I rebuilt everything and stuck it on a new galvanized military chassis. The transmission and transfer case were rebuilt with new bearings, syncros and seals, and I also ordered a Fairey overdrive and subsequently rebuilt it as well. All steel-to-aluminum joins have been rubber isolated or replaced with aluminum pieces wherever possible to avoid galvanic corrosion, all fasteners are stainless where possible, and I parkerized all the unique steel pieces that can't be bought. The firewall was torn down and all rusting sections cut away and replaced before dipping in epoxy coating and painting. The entire front end is new, with the exception of the differential itself. All running gear is coated in POR-15 under gloss black. The suspension now has a two inch lift with parabolic springs, and it has Interco TrXus tires; six in total (four rolling, hood-mounted spare, interior-mounted spare). All the galvanized trim was stripped and redone, and the bodywork was taken to bare Birmabright (the alloy Land Rover made the body from) and primed and painted with minimal bodywork and no bondo.

It still looks like an old truck thanks to the fair share of dings and dents it now has (the bondo was a quarter inch think in places under the brushed-on latex paint), but it's stupidly solid throughout and I enjoy its simplicity. It's slow as hell and its loud enough inside that I'm going to install a British army headset communications system... but it's tough as nails, ready for another 600,000+ kilometres, and goes a goodly distance on the 200 litres of gas that it can carry. Of course, after pumping that much into it, it sort of feels like you're driving a bomb. The only other things I plan to add is a combination of limited slip and locking differentials, stronger axles, disc brakes, and a megasquirt EFI setup.

But as it is, it's easy to drive around Vancouver, since it's basically got the footprint of a new Mini with better sight lines. Makes parking and merging a breeze, and the seven passenger or 3/4 ton cargo capacity is nice... but as practical as it is, I always look forward to summer...

Of course, after pumping that much into it, it sort of feels like you're driving a bomb. The only other things I plan to add is a combination of limited slip and locking differentials, stronger axles, disc brakes, and a megasquirt EFI setup.

But as it is, it's easy to drive around Vancouver, since it's basically got the footprint of a new Mini with better sight lines. Makes parking and merging a breeze, and the seven passenger or 3/4 ton cargo capacity is nice... but as practical as it is, I always look forward to summer...

I was driving up Willington and stopped at the red light in front of Brentwood Mall. 5 rejects in their mid 20's were standing at the bus stop waiting for the loser cruiser when they yelled out "I like your daddy's car".
