Fuck Canada Post.

The item is travelling to its destination. It will remain in this state until it arrives at the final processing location. Typically, the final processing scan occurs on the expected delivery date or the day before at the local delivery facility. Check this date to know when we will attempt delivery.

Left Victoria this morning, processed ... so I go to my local Canada Post since it's there and I get "what makes you think you can just pick it up here?" like I've somehow offended her by trying to pick up my package.

Uhhh ... it's there and I'm not going to be home tomorrow. So, instead of walking out with my package, I have to wait until they attempt to deliver it and give me a card to tell me where to pick it up.

Fuck, so much easier with Purolator and UPS. As soon as it's at the processing facility, I can pick it up. No need to wait for them to attempt to deliver it.

People who don't turn on their tail lights at night, pls i can't see you.

Pedestrians who bolt out at cross walk... almost watch this short asian lady get squished because she bolted out from the darkness. Drivers can't see you, worse when it is raining.

Funny how Whole Foods actually says "10ish items" for their express lines. I guess no one really counts.

When I finished making a turn today, a lady had her headphones in and was looking at her phone as she jaywalked across right in front of me. She was walking really slowly, too. I honked at her(it's not like she will notice me flash my high beams) and she looked at me like "WTF".

^^ Cyclist was killed in Nanaimo earlier this year on the side of the highway with a paved, double-lane bike path 50 feet away that runs parallel the entire length of the highway.

Cyclist struck by cube van in Nanaimo has died (http://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/cyclist-struck-by-cube-van-in-nanaimo-has-died-1.23055049)

At the time, Const. Gary O’Brien said the cyclist was not wearing a helmet, had no lights on his bike and was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing.

Cyclists were out protesting for greater safety measures, naturally.

People who drink and cant handle it. Just dont fucking drink then.
Hubby got us kicked out of his company christmas party because he yakked in the sink in the mens washroom of the venue from pregaming too hard while i was on my way downtown.
I had just sat down with my plate of food and the MC came to notify me that I had to take him away immediately. It was a struggle to get him to leave - he's a big dude and I cant pull him. Not to mention, he was super angry about getting kicked out. He ended up yelling at me in the parking lot about it because he felt like he didnt do anything wrong.
Me being sober - obvi I agree with the decision to kick his ass out, he deserved it because he was an irresponsible drinker lol. I was begging him to just come home with me but he wouldnt listen. I ended up taking his wallet so he wouldnt lose it and leaving him dt. We got kicked out at 822pm. He didnt make it home til about 12am. I got home just before 10. Maybe it was harsh of me to leave him but he needed to learn a lesson. Maybe next time he'll remember i dont make empty threats.

Im also frustrated because he knows im a retired party veteran and he still wont listen to me when i say shit like slow down, eat something, drink water, etc.
I am noticing i really dont have patience for people who drink and cant handle themselves anymore.

I remember partying til i blacked out and I still would be able to take care of my friends and myself while on blind autopilot......so i maybe just dont understand *this* type of drunk/hammered. Alcohol sucks.

Been a tiring 10 months supervising this asshole coworker that is incompetent as fuck. In an ideal world, his ass would have been fired long time ago. My company doesn't like to fire people as they don't want to train new people from scratch and also they are sympathetic his family depends on him due to one income.

E.g. I tell him to do one thing, he does another. He's too old for this job, forgets all the time whatever I tell him. When it's deadline for his work to be done, that's the day he actually starts it. I'm thinking WTF? Who do you think you are. Always the people I see the most that say this kinda stuff. E.g Work colleagues. Sometimes gets quite annoying. I don't need to tell you my personal life and what I do. They just think vacation time = "MUST GO SOMEWHERE TO TRAVEL". Vacation to me could mean take time off and rest, not necessarily "travel".

End of day, each to their own. Everyone has their own goals. My goal is to pay down the place, their is blow money on travel and live off someone. Fine, no need to tell people what they should do and shouldn't do. Then they'll be like, oh you need to travel more to have more stories to talk to people with about. WTF??!

Life is (almost) always full of compromises and choices. I would love to have traveled more, especially to the places I won't go to now that I have obligations beyond myself, but instead I chose to be with my girlfriend (now wife), stay at a good job and buy our place. From how prices are going the amount I saved between buying when I did and now would cover a buttload of traveling when we retire. I know people who traveled and partied tons and are now in their 40's, just getting married, no kids, and a bit bitter towards their relatives that are only a bit older but now expecting grandkids. Focus on your overall goals and ignore those who are shortsighted.

To me international travel is exciting but not overly restful, given how long and tedious the process is to get there and back. As for having stories to tell, one of the best (if not the best) story I have comes from a fairly cheap ski weekend with some buddies. Yet some of my friends who have been all over the place come back and barely say a thing.

^Agreed. I prefer the "financial stability" because I grew up where my dad/mom worked day in and out to meet the basic survival needs of the family. Things were not easy for them, so I try my best to work hard where I am now. They never got the luxuries to "travel", so growing up we never had that kind of disposable income. Now, I choose to build wealth first. I guess that's not the "IN" thing these days with people, they just see it as, "what, you never been here or there, or done this and that".

Counterpoint: I travel I shit ton (like at least 2 times a year) and I pay a mortgage, max out my RRSPs every year, and still have money leftover to put in a TFSA. I don't make a ton of money either.

It's all about priorities. I drive a 16 year old car. Have a $0 phone which I upgrade every 3 years. My SO and I live below our means most days but still manage splurge every now and then.

Travelling isn't as expensive as you think. Back when I was renting you could live in a cheap place like SE Asia for 3 months for less than you would spend in a week in Vancouver. Airfares can be cheap and accommodations can be found cheaply now easily online. Food and cost of living is pretty much the among the highest in the world here in BC. I meet people travelling all the time who are on gap years who rent out their primary home and earn money on the side or in other passive ways. It's do-able, you just need to think out of the box.

So you're damn right I have a shit ton of "stories" to tell. It's called life experience. I just realized now that people who haven't experienced "it" aren't really interested or just feign interest because their lives are so blindingly boring. That's ok though, as mine is the same 83% of the time too. So I just keep my mouth shut now and talk about the weather instead.

AzNightmare

For whatever reason, I've never cared much for travel. Whatever it is that makes people so excited "to experience the world", I never saw it as something important. Not sure why. It seems like something that's normal that people are supposed to like and love to talk about. I guess overall, I'm just very content staying in my small bubble and have no desire to venture out.

I've gone to many places and traveled around here and there, but it always felt more to check off a bucket list or I went because my friends wanted to go and I wanted to hang out with them. I've personally never had the initiative to say "Let's get out of here!" (I guess what I'm saying is, it's my friends I wanted to travel for, not the location or the sake of leaving town for some "freedom").

I think it's because I feel I can't accomplish things that I really want to do if I'm not at home. I have sports, hobbies (building projects, car modding), my computer which I use a lot to watch shows, movies, surf, game (can't do that efficiently on a phone), etc. I even miss my car when I have to rent some POS in another city... lol.

CivicBlues

Travelling is just a hobby really - nothing more. Just like modifying your car, paragliding, or attending masked orgies. It's just materialistic consumption though a bit more involved and might cost more to satiate. People that make it out to be a lifestyle or some kind of a "life-hack" are usually in their early 20s that have #wanderlust in their Instagram posts or are full of shit.

Have you asked them why you haven't gotten a bonus or a increase of your salary in the last 3 years?

I would be curious why I didn't get the bonus, was it because of my performance or something wrong with the system? If I believe I am worth a certain price, I should be paid at that level. I see that everyone else got an increase or some type of bonus, but I haven't received one in the last 3 years? I think that's how I would do it.

I talked to the manager today and asked if my performance was poor considering I've always had great performance every year before that.

Told me indirectly that my job volume doesn't equal 40 hours of work and that essentially I am currently overpaid. The company revenue has declined 30%. I would totally understand they don't pay me a bonus, but they are increasing other people's salaries and paying everyone else out bonuses. Makes no sense, obviously I couldn't say that because I am not allowed to disclose confidential information that I see. Essentially I am like one of three staff that didn't receive a bonus, the other two were on maternity leave, this is out of a 150 staff total.

Told me also, people don't get bonuses just for showing up to work, you have to be outstanding such as helping others and going above and beyond your job to make the company better. I then said, I always go above and look out for opportunities to save the company tons of money the past year. Tells me, well that's part of my job...not even in my fucking job description to go find ways to save company money. Every fucking person on the team writing off all expenses, and I am here trying to find ways to save.

Then she got the guts to say in the midst of troubling times of weaker business, the boss didn't even pay himself a bonus. Seriously? The boss already getting millions and you are comparing me and my low salary to him...

This really shows the unappreciative attitude of the organization. It's a life learning lesson that it sucks to work for someone, always be someone's bitch. Even if you work hard and do everything right.

Clearly the manager only pays out bonus to people she likes and if she doesn't like you, don't get shit. Bias towards specific people she likes.

^Yeah, quite bit of team turnover the past two years under her management. Just in a span of 6 months, two of the more experienced level staffs left.

Even the VP's themselves recognized me with recognition for my great work this past year, so I don't know what the fuck is her problem how I got $0. If anything I would get much less $ bonus due to less volume of work. I feel everything I do now is, "it's part of my job", and nothing seems to be above and beyond at this point.

What's done is done, there is always a positive and negative to take out of every situation, not going to let this ruin my Christmas. To her, I'm only worth this much, to others I may not be, it's a matter of time before I get a new job/start a different career path!! At the moment, just have to suck it up because I have financial obligations to fulfill, so I can't just "quit" for ego purposes, even though inside I want to fuck them over and leave.

No point to talk more with the lady; clearly she's stupid.
Manager explained to me once.

1) To get a bonus: has to be above and beyond ur job description AND something you haven't DONE the year before which is measurable and sustainable. Other wise, it's just 1 time thing & something you already know from yr before.

Every since my boss has explained to me, I felt ok to get only a 4 out of 5 and not getting a bonus.

Individual has to be earned and it's slightly different per person.

So it made feel, WTF is my managers fucking problem and her expectations. Yes the volume of work is way less than before, but the bonus itself is directly related to whether I made an impact on the well being of the organization, which is clearly depicted by the VP' comments. Very rare I hear or see VP compliment one's work either. I may not get the full bonus compared to prior years, but $0???

I ain't going to go tell my VP because if my VP gives manager a hard time over her decision, manager gonna give me shit, so not worth it.

Had an emergency episode tonight - something aggravated my condition after my shower. No antihistamines anywhere in my house; had to chug down 2 heavy doses of Nyquil and 4 gravols. Luckily the Nyquil has antihistamine mixed into it. Averted severe anxiety attack just when I was starting to panic.

I hate taking meds now but natural healing is so slow going and sometimes tortuous like tonight. Just remembered this time last year I was on a high dose oral steroid with a small red allergy pill I took every 4 hours that made me incredibly weak and shakey. I probably have to get more of that red allergy pill for emergencies like tonight, it's just tough for me mentally to have something like that in my space now. Sigh.

That is also my pet peeve. Was at a costco in Burnaby and I signaled to park in a spot as someone was backing out.

There was a lady that had her fours way like 2 car lengths ahead and not facing the parking spot. I proceeded to park in the spot and the lady came over and pointed out that I stole her spot.

People telling you how something is definitely possible and very easy to do when you know full well it isn't. Just because you can describe it in a sentence doesn't mean it's easy to implement or that the system you're working in even allows the functionality needed to do it. I deal with this crap a lot and it's really starting to piss me off.

I didn't even know about the $5 promo, until I drove from Richmond to Metro, and asked a sales associate about why the app is so shitty and why the sales advertised don't reflect the prices in store.

And while I get that tailoring is free, I'd rather not wait around for 4 hours at the mall and get tailored pair of jeans. I want a 32x32 and for it to just work. It's ridiculous how they can only see 34 length then push their tailoring services - although it's free. Time is money.

Pet peeve for me is schmucks at the gym that claim equipment, then sit around on their phone or talk to other people.

For example, empty bar on incline bench and I'm setting up, some dude walks up to me and says he's on that and has 4 sets left. Like bitch, you lifting with no weights?! So I do one set and leave. The guy proceeds to do cable cross over for two or three more sets before hitting incline bench. Fuck these bitches, they don't own the gym. Next time I'm just going to ignore these fucking plebs.

Do you guys typically tip on the subtotal or after tax? I think tip on the subtotal before tax is the right way.

Also I think I would tip differently if I knew beforehand if it is split between the kitchen staff as well. Most of the time they don't get the split because I know the kitchen staff is busting their ass as well. (mom works in a kitchen)

It felt so refreshing going to an Asian country like Japan, and South Korea. Service is always top notch and they don't expect a tip, that is how it should be.

Tip on the subtotal. I don't like how all the places in dt have minimum option of 15%. Are you supposed to tip at the club/bar?

MSREE
01-22-2018, 08:56 AM
^ technically youre supposed to tip on the subtotal. I tip on the whole total incl tax because i always tip a bit extra since i was a waitress and i know there are plenty of assholes who dont tip at all regardless of service.
I do 10% for crappy/meh service/cabs. 15% for average service. 20% for great service.

In the industry, courtesy is 15% is what youre supposed to tip now with just food since kitchen gets a small cut, 20% tip if you order alcohol & food b/c most servers will split with the bartender & kitchen on that bill.

If i'm at a club or bar, i tip the bartender a buck or two per drink. If the place is busy, i'll put a $10 or a $20 in their tip jar right in front of them after i order my first drink while making eye contact with them.......
After that, they ALWAYS make sure to serve me immediately and not ignore me because they know i'll tip and im not an asshole. I usually always get free drinks too when im out because of the way i tip.

CivicBlues

Some people think that they wont tip a thing until the very end of the night to "reward" the service they received, which equates to shit service because the bartender thinks your a cheapskate, no one is anticiptating a pay off at the end of the night as opposed to tipping big right off the bat lol

The city is starting to replace street lights with ones that are brighter than daylight, and it seems like every new truck and SUV has obscenely bright low beams. That means my night vision is trashed for seeing anything off the road that may step into it (like deer and people) or being able to see well when I turn onto a side road. By all means make the high beams bright, but if I can drive the Coq in the dark with ancient sealed beams then you don't need collapsed stars on the front of some piece of shit soccer mom SUV that will never leave city limits.

To be fair, all Pickups(especially lifted) blind me a bit since my car sits fairly low, even if they use the good old halogen headlights.

I found MB to be the most guilty of overly bright headlights.

The worst thing is that some people, for some reason, love those blue headlights that are useless.

As for SUVs, a lot of them have shit headlights despite having factory LED ones.

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/news/desktopnews/more-than-half-of-midsize-suv-headlights-tested-rate-marginal-or-poor

A lot of LED headlights are not very good even if they are OEM. 9th Gen Accord halogen headlights got a better rating than the fancy Touring LED ones, and 10th Gen Accord with halogen high beams got a better rating than Touring LED high beams.

Technically, the high beams in my RX-8 has less lumens than my low beams(2100 vs 3000), but it still works well as the yellow light is better for distance vision.

Sent from my Pixel XL using TapatalkActually, the Corolla ones are okay. I see them often enough on the road and they don't bother me very much.

I have even driven a rental Corolla w/LED headlights in the States and the LED headlights were quite good. Toyota has some good LED headlights.

That said, if HID headlights here require self-leveling and washers(which are quite cool), then the same requirements should be applied to LEDs as well. One complaint I have seen for LED headlights is that because they don't generate any heat in the front, there is no way to melt snow without using your hands.

Corolla LED low beams are garbage. Personal experience driving in rentals in two different times, once here and once in Ontario. Those LEDs are bright close up but don't throw far at all. If you're driving along the median, you can see that the lights are actually aimed slightly upwards, rather than sloping downwards like the regs specify. That is why they always produce excessive glare. And that is also why road signs are so well illuminated when you're driving in one of those Corollas.

I personally don't find those [] as bothering as the stupid taillight design on them.

Whoever thought having brake lights the same as turn signals was a good idea for those trucks need to be whacked in the head with a hammer.

Again, MB cars/SUVs are especially bad when it comes to having glary LED low beams.

They are actually okay as far as LEDs go. According to IIHS, Corolla LED low beams get the Acceptable rating, which is not too shabby. I think the Prius V LED low beams actually got the Good rating.

While foreground light can be an issue for LEDs, they are better than a blown halogen bulb with 0 lumen output. Way too many people drive around with only 1 headlight working.

If you want to talk about far-reaching low beams, my RX-8's HID low beams are actually quite far-reaching. That's why I still think properly designed HIDs can still be very good. I heard some very good things about the S2000 HID projector units. It's a more mature technology compared to LEDs.

Never noticed just how bad it was until I moved to the GTA. Girls here are just as good looking but without the snobby attitudes.

I personally don't find those [] as bothering as the stupid taillight design on them.

It's not the [ ] part that's blinding, that's just the only part of the front end that I can see since it's also a light lol.

If you want to talk about far-reaching low beams, my RX-8's HID low beams are actually quite far-reaching. That's why I still think properly designed HIDs can still be very good.

Why is far-reaching a good thing for low beams? Is that not counter to the point of low beams for oncoming traffic?

I mean, when I compare it to halogen low beams on my old Accord Coupe, my RX-8 HIDs are far-reaching, without blinding oncoming traffic. It also has an active angle adjustment system. I can actually hear the motor whirring sometimes in the garage when I first turn it to ON(engine not started).

It's not aimed upwards to blind anyone, and on dark roads without any other light source, high beams are still necessary.

That said, I am not sure if I should just do a check somewhere, just to make sure everything is not out of calibration.

Everything is too damn bright now, period. Low beams, stop lamps, DRLs, traffic signals. Everyone is having a brightness competition now. f u c k. My eyes are being burned every time i look at the back of one of those Lexuses at night. I can't even drive over a hill without being blinded, and it's not even the fault of the other guy, he's just driving along with the proper lights on. And now BMWs with lasers? Ugh give it a break, man.
Sure, there's a proper cutoff line for the low beams, but anytime you're in the area below it, lol gg your eyes are fucked

Since we're kind of the topic of lights, I don't remember if i also mentioned this, but the guy who decides on when to turn the lights on in the Cassiar tunnel is really fucking stupid. Dim mode in the middle of the day, your eyes are adjusted bu the time you're almost out the tunnel. Middle of the night and sets the tunnel lights on full brightness what a dumbass.

That's what people in the early 70s said when all they had was incandescent that's barely stronger than a candle and improved halogens started showing up.

Not saying all the LED/HID lights are good, especially the bad PnP kits, but I think it's an inevitable move. Halogens are just too inefficient. On my RX-8, my high beams are H9 halogens(which, BTW, is as bright as halogen goes without going over wattage, and over wattage bulbs are illegal and dangerous) rated at 2100 lumens with 65W, while my low beams are D2S HIDs rated at 3000 lumens with 35W. HIDs and LEDs draw less power to produce the same amount of or more light. Now, the fuel-saving is insignificant on 1 car, but when you add all the cars on the road together, there will be some significant fuel-saving.

Another problem is obviously the short lifespan of halogens compared to HIDs and LEDs. Way too many people drive with burnt out halogen headlights and taillights without realizing it.

In the end, it all comes down to regulation. Again, I'd like to see LED headlights getting the same regulations that are required on HID lights. If HID lights require washers and auto angle adjustments, why not LEDs? Especially when LEDs are capable of even higher output than HIDs.

I reserve my comments on BMW lasers, as it's only used as an option on the i8. In principle, it targets the moving objects/people and shines the light on them. That can prevent some costly damage caused by the abundance of deer we have. Of course, I am not sure how well it works in real life.

If the light is too bright for you, you should simply look away from it until it passes you.

Probably because street lights are so bright now that headlights don't actually do anything for the driver in town. Look at how many people drive around with their lights off without noticing.

If the light is too bright for you, you should simply look away from it until it passes you.

The problem is the lights are just slightly to the side of where you should be looking while driving. Taking your eyes off the road for half a block doesn't seem like a safe driving technique to me.

Another factor is the color temperature of the lights. A lot of LED headlights are very blue and human eyes don't react well to that.

IMO anything that's above 5000K is starting to get useless and annoying, while anything above 6000K is just rice.

Was driving up to Sun Peaks yesterday and about a half hour north of Merritt the coq totally shut down. My fiancé and I where the first car to get turned around back to Merritt. Had to go back south to the 5a and blast up to kamloops that way. Somehow we made it to Sun Peaks on time for our appointment, but it’s so frustrating. It’s gotten to the point where I think I’m going to completely stop using hwy 5 unless absolutely necessary.

Focus RS was great as always though.

Something that DIDNT grind my gears. There’s a teenager/early 20’a guy that works at the a&W in Cache creek. I got to town late for ice racing and just wanted some grub, so hit the drive through. Especially that last part, I found that all the asshole minivan drivers/pickup trucks that blew by me ended up stuck or spun out a couple kms down the road.

Even if you have a vehicle that is safe with proper tires and you're driving appropriately for the conditions - which we did, my lack of experience driving in the winter made things 10x worse. I suppose the key part of the coquihala is that people shouldn't drive on it, if they haven't had experience driving in the snow, especially if they can't even drive in the GVRD with little snow.

Tl;dr: don't drive the coquihala if you don't have heavy winter driving experience. The semis that force you off the road make everything so much worse.

AWD/FWD helps too, driving that 325 was like driving a 1000 hp supra (i'd imagine)

My rule of thumb on the road: Always leave enough room for the cars ahead of you, in the other lanes, to make a lane change.

Not because they should follow the rules and signal and shit, but because Vancouver has had so many shitty drivers, you literally cannot have someone be responsible of your own safety.

Replaced the one on my RX-8 with a Philips Vision LED, so I don't have to worry about it burning out for a long time.

In this case, though, the warning lights can be annoying, since LEDs don't consume enough power to be properly recognized by the bulb out warning systems...

Good point, in this day and age where cars are mandated to have backup cameras now and all of this safety jazz is standard, I'm surprised this hasn't been made mandatory yet.

IMO I think a "bulb-out" warning light is super useful especially if your brake lights are out since it's something you really have no way of knowing unless you make it a habit to reverse up to a big window and tap on the brakes once in a while.... or someone tells you, or you get a ticket, or worse get into an accident...

As for Scotty Kilmer, eh, I watch it for both entertainment value and educational value. I take some of the stuff he says with a grain of salt.

That reminds me, my roommate told me that he was walking inside a UVic building once and needed to get to a class. A bunch of Chinese people was blocking his way and they wouldn't budge no matter what. He tried to politely ask but to no avail. He ended up just shoving past them.

As a Chinese guy myself... I feel my roommate's pain and if I was there, I would tell them the 5 rules of the road:

Drivers on the highway.

I've only lived in Langley for a month and been commuting to Burnaby for work and my god have I never see as many crappy drivers as I thought there could be.

Every morning it's the same thing. Cars jumping from lane to lane to get ahead of 1 car while cutting them off. Did that really accomplish much? They jump lane from lane and end up trapped in a slow lane only to get passed by everyone the just passed.

I drive in the left lane keeping a distance to the car in front of me that's safe enough for the slow speed we're going, maybe the distance of 2-3 cars. People don't bother shoulder checking or using their signals while they cut you off making you hit the brakes.

After work I see the same thing almost daily during rush hour. Guys who think they're wannabe bad ass hells angels on their Harley riding up the shoulder as if they're entitled. If they're gonna do that I kinda want to see one of them skid out on all the loose rocks that make their way to that lane.

To the guy who was lane jumping who I ended up passing while in the right lane about 4 times and then decided to cut me off when there wasn't even enough space for him to fit I'm glad you missed your exit. I looked over as I took that same exit to see you having what looked like some yelling and frustration going on, you deserved it.

I kinda wish I was a cop and could just pull over all the idiots who get away with all the crap they do.

one thing that bugs me is when an emergency vehicle comes through and people try to use it to skip ahead in traffic. we'll all be pulled over and the ambulance will go through, and then the guy at the back of the line just floors it to try to skip 10 cars... emergency vehicles should not be an opportunity to get ahead of traffic. especially when you're supposed to keep your distance behind it.

Second one spends a good few minutes inspecting before giving me the cash for a watch, later on when I get home complains how my pics on the ad different than actual.

It just amazes me how lack of simple common sense some people have. You give them all the opportunity to test/inspect before buying and they still complain afterwards...

Townhall is a block away so on Sundays me and the gf walk there and have their brunch + a beer while watching whatever sports is on tv. I'm okay with kids who are like 10+ who are behaved but yesterday a group of about 8 came in and 2 of them were kids who were maybe 11/2 - 3 and a baby. The parents think it's cute to let the 1 year old walk across the table back and forth while the 3ish year old runs up and down the aisle between the servers holding beers and food. Get a hold of your damn kids!!!!!!! if you're going to let them run around wild then take them to Chuck-E-Cheese. Also, when your kid needs to sit on his knees on the bar stool and lean over to the table I'm having no sympathy when the kid falls over.

I'm sorry to dick and say this but if the biggest meal they can eat is on the appetizer menu and the restaurant doesn't have a menu catered to kids that young maybe they shouldn't be there. Not putting this in VI thread to avoid clutter but this is what's grinding my gears:

- the complaining of blatantly deserving of VIs (me-too crowd). Just cause you got a VI doesn't mean you don't deserve it. Ie. Tinted front windows and removal of airbags

- when people think they know the truth/how it works. I've been on this fucking issue since October. Granted not everyone is here, but fuck. It's hard to post and have validity when it's not here. I'm not BIC_BAWS on other platforms nor do I want to state I am.

Two weekends in a row, dealt with inconsiderate idiots trying to sell some stuff.

First one, we agreed to meet at 7pm and I even confirmed time before hand and also accommodated that time for the buyer. I get there, tells me will be 15-20 minutes late. I said I will wait 15 minutes max extra and the buyer said I am picky with time. Pretty much saying it's fine to be late and that my time isn't important, I just left and told to fuck her self. Being late is fine, but at least give the other person heads up and also don't put blame on the person waiting saying they are picky with time.

Second one, show up and inspects the item I am selling. After 10 minutes, tells me she isn't sure about it and doesn't know if she wants to buy it. Tries to lowball me on the spot when we agreed at price already lower than my asking before we even met up. Inconsiderate idiot, if you aren't sure then just ask me to send you some pictures and videos rather than make someone come all the way to meet up to check out the item. Time wasters these days.

People who offer you $200 on a $1200 item. Like if you're too broke for this, maybe you should just take transit you cheap fuck.

Or

People who say "oh yeah I'm trying to save money for xyz" well maybe you should save money.

Or

"Btw I'm 17 and I'm paying for everything out of pocket. Even diy-ing stuff to save money." Cool, good for you. Is that supposed to change anything for me? Do you expect me to give you a break cause you're young? In fact, I'd be doing you a favor, by teaching you that you need to work hard to get things you want. Hell, I do a lot of work on my E46 myself - to save money.

I don't get lowballing. Maybe I don't know the art of it, but I hate haggling. I'd rather buy something at a price that I'm comfortable at, and the seller feels good at letting it go for.

Also people in GVRD would rather make low-ball offers on an already cheap replica wheel, than a genuine wheel. My BBS CH were sold in the states for $600 USD, what most people here considered a laughable price. It was a very satisfying transaction, quick and easy. US buyer was great to deal with.

Probably dealt with the biggest prick asshole in my entire life. Had a inflatable beach lounger for sale, brand new. Met the guy up, guy being Japanese asked if he can test it out to make sure there's no leaks. I said sure, as it's new and I never opened it. We assemble it together and he sits on it for 5 minutes, didn't look impressed after saying shouldn't the lounger be "stiff still with full air" as he feels there could be a leak, I said I'm not sure since I don't have experience owning one of these. He asks, let me sit for another 5 minutes, another 5 goes by, still not impressed. Asks to sit for another 5 minutes, another 5 goes by, at this point I'm starting to get annoyed. His main concern is leaks.

Told him, LOOK if there's a leak, you would be sitting on the floor by now deflated. Jumping on and off and sitting on and off for so many times, there's bound to be some air loss over time since these are not "ROCK TIGHT SEAL". Then he's like, I don't want to buy.

At this point, I flipped the fuck out on him. Literally wasted 20 minutes of my time. I told him if he's so concerned, why doesn't he go buy in store and tells me it's faster to buy private. Bro, I was kind enough to let you test it with the assumption everything is good you'll buy. EVERYTHING CLEARLY IS GOOD, the fact he feels it's "CHINA QUALITY" made him not want it anymore.

Told him to go "fuck himself" then he starts talking about how my race of people are always making enemies. At no point did I mention about races, this racist piece of shit.

When you are trying to sell an item and being kind to offer the gesture to let them test and they claim your item is not good quality. If quality and assurance is concerns to begin with, just go pay full premium price in store, why try to cut any short cuts to save money or time.

Had a garage sale this morning, old couple shows up 2 hours before it starts while we’re still getting prepared. Tell him to come back later, he says “we came all the way from Chemainus and we’re not coming back if we go home.” I live halfway between Duncan and Chemainus, so Chemainus is literally a 5-minute drive away and I was rolling my eyes hard as a result. I tell him, “That’s your call, bud. We’re not ready yet and we still have a lot of work to do.”

Of course, my fiancee chimes in and tells me not to be rude, she’d be happy to show them what we have.

Naturally, she spends 45 minutes showing them stuff, they leave without buying anything, and we’re not ready at the time we were supposed to start when a bunch of people came.

I worked in retail for 13 years, these people that think opening/closing times don’t apply to them are always fucking time vampires. I used to hate it when one of my managers would let those people in early because they never had any intention of buying something. My fiancee never worked retail, hopefully she learned a lesson.

I find there’s 2 kind of “there 10 minutes before opening” people. The seniors and others that literally have NOTHING BETTER TO DO, and the goal for that day is to just not die. So spending 3 hours to buy a bag of onions is a pretty good deal!

Or you get the people that are in at 9:01am and out by 9:17am with a $500 cart full of groceries because they’ve got it down to a god damned science.

You know what really grinds my gears? How people make left turns in Richmond. I’ll watch that green advance left turn arrow flash for 8-10 seconds before the first car even gets through the intersection. What the fuck were you doing? Also how people just assume it’s ok to turn left on a red. Even if they’re the 3rd car back and are no where near the intersection, because it turns yellow they feel it’s ok to just keep going and going and then it blocks the other direction of traffic from making their left turns! Fuck right off!

You know what grinds my gears? Tipping.

I always tip. But the more I think about it, I hate it. On the news it was just talking about your vacations and how you should tip the hotel. “Don’t forget to tip the front desk staff. Hotel maids should be about $5-10 per person per day. Don’t forget hotel shuttle! Bartender should be at least 20% yadda yadda”

Alright. I gotta put my foot down somewhere. If I’m already paying $300 a night for this hotel, I EXPECT A CLEAN ROOM! If you’re already paying your front desk staff to sign me in and give me a room key, then they are already being paid for the job they were literally hired to do, so why should I have to pay extra?

I googled “is it ok to not tip” and this was the answer

No, it is never okay to stiff your server. If the server is responsive and takes care of you, leave 20%-25%. Even if service is mediocre, leave something reasonable - say 15% instead of 20%. The servers really do depend on your tip and it will be a financial hardship if you stiff them

Get fucked!!! It is 100% okay to not tip. Just like bonus marks on a school project, a tip is earned by going above and beyond the call of duty. If all you do is take my order, bring my food, maybe refill my drink, why should that merit an extra 20% on my $50 meal. The restaurant charges me Xxx amount for this meal. That should include your wages.

I always tip. I was raised that way. But at some point this craziness has to stop. When I get take-out from my local fav food joints, I don’t tip. Should I? Really there’s no difference. The waite staff is getting paid their hourly wage regardless of whether I eat in or take out.

Above and beyond service, it should not be expected no matter what

Tipping has gotten completely out of hand to the point where the AVERAGE server is making equal to many skilled occupations (e.g. nurses, tradespeople, etc.)

It’s pretty ridiculous pay for people who take orders and deliver food and beverages.

I just wanted to add, and I know it’s not a fair comparison to Michelin star restaurants... but

Why don’t we tip at McDonald’s? Where do we draw the line? The guilt-trip argument about servers making shitty wages is a moot point. McDonald’s workers make shit pay. The same way there is a person taking my order, preparing my food, plating it etc. Hell if you are that shitty kind of person who leaves a table dirty at McDonald’s there is also staff paid to clean that up. So how is it so much different?

I mean compare white spot or Boston pizza to McDonald’s. 90% of the food is just as pre-made as fast food restaurants. That coleslaw comes out of a tub, don’t kid yourself. So why do they get tips and not McDonald’s?

^ thank the US for bastardizing tipping. 15% for crappy service? Why should we pay extra when someone did a crap job? It's supposed to be for the rare time someone goes above and beyond, not for doing the bare minimum of their job description, but some jobs started getting tipped such stupid amounts the min wage for those jobs dropped so now if they don't get tipped they make hardly anything (Canada isn't like that though, so fuck off with asking for tips for doing the bare minimum). Pay workers a normal wage, abolish tipping and just charge me what it costs to do things instead of this bullshit where the restaurant/hotel/cruise lists X amount but wants you to pay an extra percentage on top. If my meal costs $25 just charge me $25, not $20 plus a tip.

If other industries did this they'd get fined for false advertising. A new Civic is $18k so they list it for $18k, it's not $15k with a 20% tip.

Things may have changed, but at Kelly O'Bryans everything is just reheated except the chicken, which they still managed to fuck up and give me and my girlfriend at the time food poisoning about a decade ago. McDonald's manages to not mess that up and it's about as difficult to put a drink into a glass as a paper cup. Half the time the service in a restaurant is even shittier if you get a server with a shit attitude who expects big tips because they're attractive.

This is why i go to Starbucks sometimes over some mom and pop coffee shops. Starbucks, zero tip on their tap so i don't get the snobby hipsters on fraser / commercial drive expecting me to tip on a take out order.

FU on take outs and asking for a tip. FU on asking a tip for newspaper delivery. FU on pressuring me to tip at a club bathroom cause u're standing in front of the sink while i'm trying to wash my ahnds.

Not exactly a model country lol. Restaurants in VN will slyly charge you for using napkins, extra utensils, takeout containers, etc without telling you upfront about the charges

Consider Japan instead, where tipping is seen as an insult. Virtually zero tipping culture there, and they always strive to deliver the best customer service because IT'S THEIR JOB/DUTY. Unlike the entitled North American monkeys we have here.

Call me cheapo, I've done more take out food than sit in these days. Don't have to tip on take outs haha.

you be surprised how many people tip 20% on takeouts or $5 on $13 dollars worth of food.
Fact, am part time and see it all the time

High-end restaurants in Asia still charge the mandatory 15% gratuity though

stingy ass neighbours who cry about when you park in front of their house on a NON RESIDENTIAL STREET.

These people literally called and reported that my car hasn't moved in "3 days" so City of Burnaby left a note on my car that it would be towed if it wasn't moved in 72 hours.

so I move my car and not even 2 minutes later, neighbours car parks in the spot. What's more ironic is they have a driveway that they never use and still prefer to park on the street.

And what's funnier is the homeowner lady saw me sitting in my car the day before but never asked 'please don't park here' and still proceeded to call City of Burnaby that my car hasn't moved in 3 days, when I literally drive every single day :fulloffuck:

if someone parks infront of my house, I just park further down the street. No big deal, just a couple of more steps to walk

Tipping is organized panhandling.

Some deserve it. Most don't.

Those stinky little hipster joints need to pay their staff instead of relying on tips to do it. As if I don't hate Vancouver enough...

Not a gear grind, rather an observation, but why are millennials so obsessed with things like typewriters, cassette tapes, old Amigas and other goofy crap from the 70s to 90s? I'm all for a nostalgia trip but I'm glad those things died yet these people what to resurrect them?

Also, some co-worker of mine was talking loudly in her office to a friend about what is like to live through Y2K...

I'm hardly one to comment on style, but why do so many people seem to have difficulties putting on a front license plate? I'm talking about the ones with the big ugly plastic bracket already on the car but they don't run one, or have it in the window, or have it hanging below the bottom of the bumper. Or the wierdo with the brand new Jag I saw the other day that had it haggardly ziptied onto the grille. I get not wanting to drill holes in the bumper but if you drive something that pricey the odd fine for no front plate or the cost of a custom relocation bracket is nothing.

That's hipsters, not all millennials. For a brief time my sister in law (who has only ever had smartphones) wanted to switch to a flip phone, until we explained to her just how shitty texting with a numpad can be.

Not that it irritates me that much, actually kinda entertaining and becoming a joke on the RX-8 board:

Delusional people thinking their RX-8 R3 is worth US$15~20k.

I own a Series 2 and while it definitely is worth more than a Series 1, no one will pay over US$11k for even a nice example nowadays. In 10 years, perhaps, but not now, and not anytime soon.

And when you try to point it out, they get all defensive and say "Oh it's an R3 so it's special." It's not. It has the same engine, same transmission, same differential, same brakes, same exhaust as any other Series 2 RX-8. It just has some bigger wheels, Bilstein shocks(which people will just replace with coilovers anyway), Recaro seats and a slightly different exterior. Like the difference between a Z51 and a non-Z51 Corvette is greater.

So expect me to post my RX-8 up for sale for $20k soon. No low ballers.:troll:
