^ Wow, Only $730 difference from USA's base price? That's incredible :toot:
I was expecting them to jack it up to at least $27k for the cheapest model in Canada....

Oh wait BRZ is running boxer. I fail :(
Too busy thinking I always wanted stock turbo+supercharge, RWD, modern interior.
I mean yea, get a Skyline GTR, probably make even more HP and fun than BRZ but considering interior and lack of really taking it to the track numerous times, I think BRZ isn't bad for some city fun.
edited :) thanks. It was late -.-

CAD pricing announced today, starting at $24,930 MSRP......... and that price *includes* delivery!
That's not too bad I think... not sure what you get, just says it on the annoucement email I received... I remember in 2000 when the Celica came out, I bought a GT for $23,850 incuding the $500 option for the spoiler... and that was only 140hp... and the GT-S with 180hp was like $29,000 so $24,930 in today's money for a rear drive coupe with 200hp seems pretty reasonable by comparison.
Nevermind.... :failed:
That's still USA pricing.
2013 Scion FR-S Priced at $24,200 (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4328)
Base: $24,200 + Destination $730 = where you thought it's $24,930
If only that's Canadian pricing :okay:

Wow here I was expecting 27,500 as rumored because we always get shafted, but 24,850 WITH delivery is hella good.
Here's hoping the BRZ will be reasonable.

I was looking at this at this thing at auto show and noticed a couple things:
-bolt pattern is 5x100
-exhaust hangs really really low, and even at the tiny stock diameter, it had a bunch of dents / restrictions in it to clear various things under there
-with the front seats set to a fairly average position, the back seats had zero leg room
Scion rep also said the stock offset was +43. Was kinda hoping for lower than that.
Still, for $26,000.. really tempted.

It's a nice option to have the rear seats available IF you happen to need the extra seats once in a while, whereas 2 seaters like Z's and S2k's don't give that option at all. Not being able to offer rides to moochers because you only have 2 seats is a convenient excuse, but sometimes a bit of practicality is nice.
The exhaust 'dents' are not from driving damage. They are bent into the exhaust piping from the factory to clear underbody components.

Talked to the Scion dealer at the autoshow over the weekend.
Expects cars in June. 15 cars already spoken for. No test drives available until June, and you'll need to put down a $500 refundable deposit.
Hunted around the Subaru BRZ for a rep and couldn't find one.

Given the hype surrounding the car, I don't think having a refundable deposit at launch is a huge deal. Or else there would be a ton of people just wanting a test drive a small handful of available cars without much serious intent to buy. I know I would.
i really wish they had labelled this a toyota to revive their sportier heritage and possibly pave the way for a supra predecessor to go head to head with nissan. disappointing in that sense.

Nope, the steering wheel has a Scion badge on it. And yeah you could buy a JDM airbag but I'm going to take a wild guess and say that's probably pretty expensive.
btw you can get a panda version in Japan??? its designated RC
the RC is the stripped down version
It comes with 16" steelie instead of the 17" standard
It has no:
No Foglight
Stereo
Air Conditioning
Trim work around the steering wheel and shifter
Limited-slip rear differential

pretty decent for people that don't want to keep it stock unless they go all European and charge people more for giving them less...

I think the RC is a great move by Toyota. A very good sign that they actually care about the aftermarket crowd. People who are planning to mod the car will probably go with a more aggressive rims/lsd and remove A/C anyway.

nope, unlike the europeans, toyota in japan are actually charging peopel less for the strip down version... a great move indeed, now only to bring it here...

not quite a fair comparison as that AE86 is pretty heavily modded. should have used a more mildly modified car. but hell, I'll take it, still so anxious to sit in one. want to test drive so badlyyyyy.

The article said 350 lbs more than an AE86, so should be around 2700 lbs. From pure power/weight comparison:
AE86: ~20.5lb/hp
FRS: ~13.5lb/hp
Gen coupe: 12lb/hp

Are we talking about 2012 or 2013 Gen Coupe? And turbo 4 or 3.8 V6?
Based the numbers on the 2013 274hp 2.0T. The V6 isn't in the same league price wise

not sure if its been mentioned or if anyones seen it
but the latest top gear magazine has the brz/86 on the cover and an article
they seem to love it but what's interesting is they were talking about how toyota and subaru are both taking credit over features of the car saying it was their idea/tech instead of the other party

Hey Guys,
Great thread about these cars. There will be an FRS on site at the autocross 2012 BC Champs which all participants will be allowed to drive!!
After the completion of competition on Sunday all drivers will be given a chance to drive the new 2013 Scion FR-S, with the top times winning prizes. All competitors will get one shot at driving the course in an FR-S prepared to the same level, with the top raw times (with penalties) winning prizes from Scion.

Apparently if you want a true sports car then the FRS is a good choice. If you want a bit more luxury but a less sports car like experience then get a Genesis Coupe. There's also the V6 Mustang but that doesn't appeal to me at all.

This is the setup for Greddy Scion FRS drift car. Perhaps the EJ intake manifold will bolt up? Either way it's making 600HP boosted and drifting in competition as we speak...Or perhaps what they are using is indeed a EJ25 with mods... here's the production car engine bay: notice the location of the alternator:
http://www.rallyxd.com/rallyxd/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/news-frs-brz-toyota-subaru-engine1.jpg
and for comparison's sake here is the EJ in its natural habitat:
http://image.modified.com/f/15600233/sccp_0811_02_z+2008_ultimate_street_car_challenge_ introduction+subaru_impreza_ej25.jpg
Engine is still hanging low and far back like the production car so I would imagine space is not a true concern...I would imagine Greddy and HKS will be the first of the companies that put together staged turbo kits for this car...It isn't outrageous to put together GDI turbo with a high compression motor these days BMW has been doing that for a while now.
Vancouver240sx

From my understanding the Greddy Scion FRS car is a completely different engine.

ya but it's still a flat 4 mounted in a similar position as the stock 4U-GE / FA20. It showcases how the engine bay is accommodating enough to fit a turbocharger and corresponding duct work in it.
The rest is just a matter of companies investing into doing it for production vehicles, with enough testing and tuning it sounds like a real possibility.
The other troll way Toyota might go at it in a couple of years is to add a hybrid boosting setup perhaps located around the rear axle to get extra boost in bhp and mpg...But that's so troll.

Any proof? I think actuaries would rate the vehicle based on other characteristics too. 2+2 won't matter if the reality is a 2.
Actually.. 2+2 should cost more because there could be 4 people getting injuried vs. 2 people getting injuried. Exposure increased.

Granted traditionally a coupe would handle better than a convertible, don't forget one of the best handling, and best selling, sports-cars ever is a convertible.

Convertible can sell for a higher margin (target US), minimal reengineering cost.. I rather they do that and have the whole model range sell for a longer period and other manufacturer like Nissan and Honda come back to the pure sports car market. That's just the reality of business.. at least chances are it will be like the GTI Cab, we won't see it here officially.
Oh God, I hope that's a joke...

I remember seeing the factory name "High-Tech Two Tone" for the panda paintjob in Gran Turismo 1. Pretty cool that it's being brought back.

You're jumping the gun a bit. It's not like they are replacing the coupe with the convertible, you want good handling go buy the hardtop... those who want the vert probably won't be taking the car tracking and drifting. It will probably be a bit heavier than the coupe and marginally flexier, but I can't see its well received handling and low COG being compromised that much with the vert. This will eat into the Miata's monopoly of the small convertible RWD and offer the flexibility of 2 extra rear seats if needed. Pretty smart on Toyota's part IMO.
I wonder how similar the side profile of the convertible FR-S will be vs. the coupe. Not a huge fan of the looks with the top down, but when you are in the driver's seat you don't see what it looks like from the outside anyways. The driving experience a convertible offers is unmatched by anything else really.

I think sonick was referring to the Mazda Miata. but s2k also fits in there. and I agree, both those cars were designed/engineered from the ground up as a roofless vehicle.
According to this they didn't just chop the top off and call it a day: Convertible Scion FR-S On The Way For 2013? (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1076040_convertible-scion-fr-s-on-the-way-for-2013)
Previous reports have quoted Toyota's lead developer for the 86 project, Tetsuya Tada, as saying the car was designed from the start to be both a coupe and a convertible, meaning the groundwork is already there.

I actually drove one on the street, because I'm organizing a VCMC event.(VCMC Motorsport Club Forums - Latest (http://www.vcmc.ca))
There is autox event coming up, there are spots for Scion dealerships & spots for VCMC members. VCMC's spots are full already, but there is waiting list.
In the VCMC event we are going to run some Works Wheels & Wedsport Wheels with Kumho V710/V70A R tires.
I'm not a good car reviewer, the following part will be boring !
The FRS I drove was an auto & I drove a manual daily......
So there was a normal auto delay when I stepped on the gas
The engine rev fast (not as fast as a s2000 nor B16a SIR), good torque quick pick up(for a 2L NA). Steering is sharp and quick, a bit slower than a Miata (Miata's steering is too fast @ speed). Steering wheel is well weighted (for Janpanese car, a bit lighter than my wife GDB Impreza, no where close to European). I didn't push it on the street, but the handling of the car is good, the feedback is very direct. Even I hate auto, I have to said the gear changing is quite fast. The suspension is nice & sporty, firm enough & not hurting your back. Brake is pretty good for a stock car.
Not much head room for me as I'm 6'1" almost 6'2". I can't fit in this car with a helmet & sitting the driving position I want. (straight & close to the steering wheel).
The seat got really good support!
Interior.... they put in their effort to make it looks good. I personally prefer ever thinner & lighter interior. A basic functional interior like Lotus Elise is perfect for me, but than I know I'm weird.
You can hear the engine sound very clear & road noise as there isn't much sound insulation. If you owned/drove a Type R you know what it is like.
It is a fun car to drive and with the great aftermarket support. I will have to drive it at a autox event to give futher comment.
Stock tires are hopeless hard rubber and stock rims aren't my style
But the car looks great with Works Emotion XC8 & Wedsport TC105N with Kumho V710 R tires
If there is anything I didn't cover let me know.
I hope to drive a manual version
Oh yeah 1 more thing the trunk is small, can't fit dead body in it. LOL :lawl:

5x100 seems to be the new 4x100 no? Civics, Corollas, similar econoboxes graduated to 5x100 in the last gen or two. The FR-S is still an econobox of sorts, just a sporty one.

Most cars are 5x114.3 even the Scion tC
5x100: 1st gen matrix, 9th gen corolla (both non-XRS), last gen Celica
5x114.3: most Japanese econoboxes other than Toyota.

This looks like a great car for the price. I just wish the armchair horsepower critics would remain silent or withold their judgement until they actually drive one. There's room in the market for cars like this: think a modern-day Miata, CRX, or BMW E30 318is.

Ya, i was suprised that there wasnt much power at the top too... but the low end and mid range was pretty gd for a 4 banger compare to Hondas. Probably the trade off is bit better for the street.

Test drove the car in Japan.... They only had automatic and was confined to 40km/h maximum.
Impressions:
Not much to say seriously when I was confined to an enclosed track and 40km/h AND automatic. It was slower than I thought it would be, but the seats were great. First car I've ever been in where I actually had to adjust the seats up instead of all the way to the bottom. Also can hear the engine quite well, probably cause of the sound piping.
Considering that the auto is geared higher and the torque converter, I would expect the manual to be a bit faster and crisper.
Also, girlfriend had no complaints in terms of seats and ride quality :woot2: She actually likes the buckets and the support it gives. So for you guys with girlfriends, you should be fine, until you put in 400lb springs lol.
There was the stripped version sitting the showroom, and it was manual. Only other impression is the shifter feels great when stationary. Can't comment on actually using it but rowing through the gears were good, throws were short.

I was lucky enough to drive the car this weekend too. However my experience was a bit different (More info coming soon).
The track was damp, we had the stock prius tires on, and all driving aids turned off. Right away I felt comfortable with the car. The seating position was fantastic, I could put the seat nice and low with the seats hugging me nicely. Flicked the almost 'short throw' feeling gear shift into 1st, give it a rev, some wheel spin and we were off. The steering was slightly light to my taste but it was still direct and gave good feel. I could feel the flywheel was really heavy, throttle sensitivity was a bit slow, but nothing to whine about. Up through the gears it was fun. Didn't blow my socks off, but that isn't the point of the car. You tip it into a corner and you can really feel where the passion is. Very maneuverable on throttle, quick transitions even with stock suspension. Torsen diff at the back made grip manipulation simple. I was amazed at just how good the car was direct from the factory. Man it is going to be a great car for motorsports!!!
Can't wait for this season!!!
