i wasted 20 pokeballs on a pidgey last night on my girls game, didnt know how to catch it and kept missing. Lets just say I'm not getting any ACTION from her the next 2 days :/

Just found an Aerodactyl. Threw my pokeball, perfectly curved that shit and bang on its face.

Then the game froze and lagged. When I went back in...................I didn't have it :okay:

Leveling up once you get to 18-20~s is such a grind the scale is ridiculous. 20+ is 75K xp then 30->31 500K XP.

This is why I like the game setup a lot. It means that while there's a bit of catch up for new users, early adopters can't run away and stomp/keep all local gyms. It's a soft cap on levels essentially. And CP isn't everything- like the show pokemon types are a bigger influence on battle outcome. That's not to say a lvl 6 squirtle will kill a 1200CP flareon, but they'll do better than you think.


As for pokeballs- I think if you miss and click on the ball behind the pokemon you can grab it back. I never verified this but I read it online (possibly reddit) somewhere.

blkgsr- sorry my response was confusing. But if you're a lower level, there's no point powering up your pokemon (using candy and stardust). I learned the hard way when I wasted so much candy and dust powering up a psyduck to almost max (for my level) only to level up and find a stronger psyduck in the wild.

So in order to get to a higher level quickly, you want to catch as many low level pokemon as possible to gain enough candy to mass evolve a bunch of pidgeys/rattatas/weedles/caterpies (with hopefully a lucky egg hatch) so you can basically gain 3-4 levels in 30 mins. Rinse and repeat for the egg time and you'll be flying through early levels like a hot knife through butter

Up to you. Keep in mind you can only carry 9 eggs so if you only have 2/5km ones then you won't get the 10km ones. You can't throw away eggs either.

A few posts back I posted about a 10km egg I hatched that was a weak-ass pedo-looking motherfucker Jynx.

Have another 10km incubating with 4km left so hopefully it's better.

I'd hatch all the 2km eggs regardless of level, because they're all common pokemon that you can find all over the place. I'd save the 10km one for when you're higher level because you're more likely to get a rare pokemon with those ones. Higher level = higher CP and you want those rare pokemon to be as high CP as possible.

I usually incubate the 5km ones when I start running out of egg space. I have the infinity incubator and 2 of those 3x use incubators, so I just incubate 3x 5km eggs at once so I can hatch 3 of them when I hit my 5km range.

Lures attract local/nearby pokemon that usually spawn there. You see what other players see and vice versa. Incense is random pokemon, I was at a dual pokestop with lures last night typical Pidgeys/Rattatas/Weedles and caterpries etc everyone was just farming or leveling up. I put an incense on and caught a random magnemite and weepingbell.

^you sure about that? it's true that the pokemon that spawn with lures are seen by all, but i've definitely found a lot of uncommon pokemon in lure areas that i don't normally encounter. on the weekend i was in an area with mostly magikarps and some other commons, then a wartortle spawned and everyone else saw it as well.

^ yes people have done it on reddit. the only way they counter this is that they implemented soft bans when the game detects you're jumping around too fast (ex: you cannot get items from pokestops, and pokemon run away 100% of the time when you try to catch them)

Fiy this is super easy to catch and there is currently a soft ban of couple hours if caught. Once they iron out the server issue it will no doubt be a permaban. Cheating at a game like this is... Well beyond lame

you can turn on battery saver and turn off the screen off time on your phone. put the phone facing outwards upside down in your pocket and get your walk on.

my issue with this is that sometimes my app freezes getting out of battery saver. I don't use it that much because of this (I walk with app open in my hand).

On iphone i put the general - > auto lock never and on the pokemon go app battery saver and vibrate are on music/ar/sound effects off. Turn the phone upside down and the screen goes black with the pokemon go logo in dark grey.

Battery saver mode makes the app freeze or unresponsive to touch sometimes. I turned it off and I just put it in my pocket if I'm walking around to hatch some eggs. Phone vibrates well enough that I'll feel it if a pokemon pops up during the walk.

Okay, if you are just starting out, you gain XP from these sources:
winning against a gym
evolving pokemon
hatching pokemon
checking in at poke stops
catching pokemon
Leveling up, there are three main trainer milestones:
level 5 - can now attack gyms
level 8 - gain ras berries (for capturing pokemon more easily)
level 12 - gain great balls (for capturing pokemon more easily)
The higher your trainer level, the better chance you'll have of getting higher base CP (combat power) pokemon, leveling pokemon to higher CP, and having an easier time capturing stronger pokemon
The best way to level up your trainer level is to use a lucky egg, (doubles xp earned for 30 minutes), but before you use it make sure:
you have 1 or more pokemon you want to evolve
1 or more eggs you want to hatch
be at a lure point (ideally), so you can maximize the pokemon you can catch at these poke points
play for the duration of the 30 minutes, and keep walking around the lure enabled poke stops
If you don't mind spending a bit of money, buy a bundle of lucky eggs, but otherwise, you can get lucky eggs on level up of your trainer.
I was able to level up from 5 - 9 very quickly using the above. Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any additional questions~

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but if you want to control Eevee's evolution you name it either Pyro, Sparky or Rainer depending on who you want.

I would evolve common Pokemon, Rattata Pidgey Zubat are the most common examples. Good XP, I have also found Eevee to be some what more common for what it evolves into, probably the best bang for your candy when evolving. 350-450cp should be obtainable at your level and i think will evolve a 700-900cp roughly, fun if you want to battle most regular gyms.


Also the other night there was a butterfree nearby, 460cp and I was level 15, had a red circle while trying to catch it, and it eventually ran away. Don't get why some Pokemon 600-700cp will be yellow, and yet that butterfree was red.

Catch every single Pidgey you can get because they only take 12 Pidgey candies to evolve into Pidgeotto. I think it's the most common and easiest pokemon to catch and evolve. Combine that with a lucky egg at a triple lure location and you'll be racking up so much experience that you'll level up in no time.

Also, the way I determine if it will have a high cp after evolving is based on how much stardust it is power it. It seems that regardless of which evolution you are on, the stardust cost seems to be consistent. I could be wrong but from what i have noticed, this seems to be the case.
Heres an example with really rough numbers,
Pidgey at CP 100 cost 500 stardust to increase to a total of CP 150. After evolving to pidgeotto, it is now CP 300
Pidgey at CP 100 was evolved and is now Pidgeotto with CP 200. This pidgeotto will still cost 500 stardust to increase it to CP 300.
In the end Both pidgeys cost 500 stardust to bring it CP 300 regardless if it was powered up before or after the evolution.

Hopefully my explanation isnt confusing.

i fought a couple gyms today, took over another one as well but some chick took it back like the second i walked away lol..

imo if you have pokemon within a 250-300 cp range, try and take a shot at the gym, depending on how effective your attacks are you can pretty easilly beat higher CP opponents

also hatched 3 5km eggs, and 1 10km egg, the only good 5km egg hatch was a 300cp Vulpix, the 10km egg hatched:

two things with this.. i was super close to levelling up right before my egg hatched.. so in hindsight i probably should have evolved a couple pidgies, got to 13, and then hatched the egg, perhaps giving it a higher CP

^Not evolve -- but powerup.

Power it up once, to see what the gains in CP are. As far as I can tell each powerup is linear, so if you gained say 50 CP in one powerup, 10 powerups will give you 500cp (also some +hp as well).

This is why the eggs give you lots of candy as well. If you caught a scyther in the wild it would be much harder to powerup since you only have 3 candy instead of 26.

Egg pokemon are mostly always better than wild ones, considering future potential.

...but not always. I'm still pretty pissed about my 120CP Jynx from the 10km egg.

If you want to get into the nitty gritty...

To expand on this, it is because it is based on the pokemon's level, which is capped by the 2*Trainer's level +1 (if I'm level 15, the maximum pokemon level is 31). Pokemon in this game come with IV (individual value) which determine it's stats and CP. CP is a combination of 3 things: attack, defence, and stamina (HP).

To check your pokemon's IV's, I used this spreadsheet:

The quick and dirty version is you want the pokemon with the highest potential. High CP, low upgrade costs. So if you have 2 with the exact same CP, but one costs 1900 to power up while the other costs 2200 to power up, you want the 1900 one because you can get that one to a higher max CP.


This is because stardust costs for upgrade are based on pokemon levels, so the difference in power up stardust costs means the two pokemon are different levels. Maybe the 1900 pokemon is level 32 and the 2200 one is level 33. If they have the same CP, it means the lower power up cost pokemon has higher IV's. It's best to just use the spreadsheet to find out the exact IV's of your pokemon since you want to



In addition for IV and CP, the movesets are extremely important a nidoking/queen is only good if it has poison jab as the main attack, otherwise its attack is very weak.

My Pokemon ball landed, hit, and caught the thing, but the game kind of hiccuped for a split second, and the monster is back out in the screen where I have to try and capture him again. This repeated for a couple of times, with my Pokemon ball landing, hitting, and capturing him at least 4 times. But each time, he just came back. For the whole time, my ball count kept dropping since I was throwing balls at him. Eventually, I gave up and quit.

Did anything like this happen to someone else? Was it became my character level was too low?

That's the whole premise of catching them - it's a battle of sort.

It happened because the pokemon was too strong for you, or you were timing your throws poorly, or a combination. You want to try and hit the pokemon in the middle, with the circle as small as possible.

Caught a 1075cp rapidash today. Only have 2 great balls left and about 40 normal balls. He bust out of the great ball. I used ALL my normal balls on him he keep busting out. I find it so dumb that at higher levels (I'm not even that high) low level pokemon can bust out of pokeballs.

It took me 5 balls to catch a CP10 weedle. I spent 10 on a 50something Pidgey before running away. I needed them for more evolves during lucky egg time but it was so annoying that I was wasting that many balls on weak pokemon.

After playing around with this game, I come to realize that it's a never ending cycle.
You need to constantly evolve things to gain the XP to level up.
Leveling up is how you catch/hatch/evolve things with higher CP.

Not sure if you are doing it, but transfer all the lower CP stuff and get the candies.
Make sure you have a bunch of stuff you are ready to evolve and use the lucky egg before you evolve them.
The lucky egg gives you double XP for 30 minutes.
Then start evolving all the stuff that you have.
Personally, I don't power up anything.

If you play long enough, you will constantly get things that are higher CP so powering up, imo, is a waste of the candy.

If you have the balls (not talking about the "give your balls a tug" kind) catch all the lower CP stuff and transfer them. This game is about "farming" and constantly evolving them.

I think you start off with 3 of them.

Also, periodically, go into your bag and delete the stuff that you don't use like potions.
The only reason I go into a gym to fight is to take it over and claim the goodies.
You can only get the gold and stardust once every 21 hrs so there is little point to fighting every gym except to get XP's.

Make sure you check and use your egg incubators. My strategy is to use the unlimited one on smaller K eggs and the limited ones on the 10 k eggs.

It is quite accurate. and gives you the time until it disappears. I used it all day at downtown and caught many rare pokemons. It doesn't show pokemons in lures though.

Level 16+ is when you'll start to evolve things that get over 1000.

Level 20+ is when you start to catch things 800-1000~ in the wild.

It's better to be on Valor or Instinct IMO, that way you have more to do (ie more likely gyms nearby are one of the other types). If everyone chose Mystic then pretty quickly there's not much to do.

It's actually better to catch the pidgeys + other common pokemon and sacrifice a few pokeballs to do so. The reason for this is that some only take 12 candies to evolve; when you pair this with a lucky egg, you'll level up in no time

"That's a pretty cool idea that you can acquire an object that changes the function of a Pokéstop and give it a new ability."

Vancouver police are asking players of Pokémon Go to "PokémonStop," at least while they're driving.
In a span of two days, officers issued six tickets to distracted drivers, saying they were caught playing the popular cellphone game behind the wheel.
Pokémon Go uses the camera on your smartphone to combine the world of the game with the area people are actually living and working in. Players have to travel to real locations to capture Pokémon characters with their phones.
Officers said they've been able to catch the drivers because they're often stopped in traffic in areas flagged in the game as virtual Pokémon hunting grounds.
"Pokémon Go is presenting a new set of challenges as police have started watching for drivers playing the game," Vancouver Police Const. Anne-Marie Clark told CTV News.
"You may be looking for a Pokémon, we're looking for Pokédrivers."

Went with some friends to hang out at the Metro water fountains for some Pokemon action last night.
People who were on pokevision yelled out there was a Dragonyte near High gate and so many people jumped into their cars and sped away to go catch that rare pokemon.
