Absolutely, its obviously something you can't just decide on the spot. For me though, its just a case of have i enjoyed the car enough at this point, and does it make sense to dump a bunch of money into it if the goal is to get something different anyways.
Cars never make financial sense. Period.

Not judging here but genuinely curious. Is that thing awd or 4wd? If awd how did the system react with the chains on the back?

It's 4x4. Has 2wd, auto 4wd and full time 4wd, just like any GM truck, it just doesn't have 4lo (low range).

Havn't had a problem with chains on the back yet, it's a little harder than trucks to get them on, cause tighter space, and you really need to make sure they are good and tight so they don't slap around.

It was a rash decision to switch from a pickup to this, I only did it to stop other site workers from hopping in the thing and using it to move around garbage and stuff (Per the BC mines act I have to leave the keys in the ignition all the time). Now nobody touches it, cause they understand it isn't just some general use vehicle.

Yep. I've been clenching my butt every drive so far haha. I'm going to raise the car a touch since I'm old, and I also would like to put 8.5s with 245s up front as well. The car actually does feel more planted in the front with it fully extended.

I bought it in an auction in Japan (wholesale price) $7k CAD; after brokerage, shipping, customs, tax, inspection, etc it's around $11.5k CAD. They typically sell in Japan for $12k to $22k at the lots (add shipping, fees, etc). In Canada/US they're worth $15k to $20+k US (if the car has already been imported), but you never see them for sale as there's probably under a dozen in N.America. Price will spike up at the end of the year when it's legal to import to US. New they were sold for $15k, today in good condition they average the same price @ $15k.

I looked at it this way: the price will remain the same or most likely rise up. If I sell the car in 5 years I would have driven the car for free for 5 years (or gain a profit). It's kind of like an alternative savings account

Compared to Auto racing, minigp racing is super affordable.. $2k for the bike, and parts are cheap, a replacement carb was $60.

$600/year for a full practice membership, which means I can show up to the track any day of the week, and just race.. Except race event weekends. But even after 6 sessions you get your money back, since daily practice passes are $75/day + tax.. No to mention tires are only $250 a set and they last way longer than any other vehicle/larger motorcycle.

The initial cost is quite high in the beginning but after a few years, you'll just be paying for memberships and tires.

I'm super hooked into it right now, having an absolute blast.. I will be out there next weekend rain or shine.. Lukily when I bought my bike used it came with 2 sets of rims, slicks and rains. I had to swap the slicks as the category i'm racing doesn't allow them.

Indeed. Sportiness isnt really part of the equation when it comes to driving this green bin around. I like it because its quiet (Honda's are usually less isolated from road noise and vibrations) and roomy inside. Almost like a cheapie Buick. Plus at 250 a month w/ tax, its quite a bit cheaper than any comparable econobox.

My biggest gripes with it

1) CVT is garbage. The large / small planetary gears setup is super annoying. The programming screws up sometimes and you are in the large gear at 1500rpm waiting for it to kick down but it'll never kick down. It also smells like burning tranny going up steep mountain grades (same as all the other CVT's ive ever driven)

2) seats are shit. Church pews basically... the foam used by toyota is getting thinner and thinner with each generation. My older 2013 rolla had much better and thicker seats. Damn bean counters in toyota are ruining the brand. I remember when my 91 camry le had manual lumbar support. Those camry seats were thick and supportive as hell.

Yeah it took an hour of winching... The trail fell off completely. Grabbed a big stick and it was 10+ feet deep in front of the machine. Couldn't go backwards, so had to climb it up a 4 foot tall bank. Not fun, trust me. Lol.

I can't tell you how close I am to trading in my M3 for another MK7R and just cancelling my RS3 order.

Golf R is 30K less than RS3... and it's available in manual... and I was never once unsatisfied with my last one.

I tried the sports wagon the other day and I found it perfect for what me and wife wanted. Sedated looks, roomy interior, panoramic sunroof and comfortable seats. I friggin love it... It just needed the gti's engine. Slap a stick shift on that thing I got my perfect daily commuter.

we loved the car. (and im not a volkswagen guy...)


nimble, responsive and handled great... performance pack with the electronic dampers and that trick electronic front diff was awesome. Always puts the power down even though its an FWD.

yeah.. we were looking at the standard brand new GTI five door at first...

then a performance pack came in on trade with only 12k kms last year.... so we pulled the trigger on the performance pack :lawl:

Awesome. If you need any advice from someone who owned and DIY maintained a 330 for 8 years shoot me a PM. I didn't find the 330 was that high maintenance and it was a joy to own and drive until the day she went to car heaven.

Do the whole thing. They will all fail. The water pump bearings will fail and it goes to hell from there.

recommended doing the whole system at once. might as well. parts are actually not that expensive.

a nice weekend DIY thing if you are mechanically handy.

luckily both cars i bought had it done. E46 #1 got rear ended on our second last snow dump. :alone:

I did everything except for thermostat and radiator in mine (should have done thermostat while coolant was drained anyways since its right there). For water pump you're best off going with the new redesigned pump directly from BMW (they're pretty nice, no cheap plastic like the originals).

I would have still had that car today because it was so dialed in and cheap to maintain if you do most of it yourself.

Did you guys do a cooling system "refresh"? ie. expansion tank, upper/lower rad hose, thermo, water pump, coolant sensor. Or just replace the expansion tank and hoses as those are more prone to failure?

What maintenance items did you service?
Your favourite mods?
How did your car go to car heaven?

Valve cover gasket (best to do with spark plugs change)
Oil filter housing gasket
Fuel pump will eventually fail and leave you stranded (easy diy best done when your fuel tank near empty)

I'll check the wheel speed sensors when it's dry out so I'll just have to keep the beast under control. Had a blast in some open turns though and S6 mode with CSL programming is so quick! LOL

Yep. If it ever gives me issues I'll just get it swapped to full manual. So far it's been flawless for the three years I've owned it. Standard North American programming made me want to swap it within the first few months. But after programming to the euro mode, I've felt no rush to manual swap.
