it could be the previous battery was just defective. I've had that happen before on the sc430. popped one in, died under a year (switched to AGM) and it's been fine ever since.

Not that one, incorrectly said box, but they call it scoop cake. It's always been sold out the last few times I've checked.

Went last week to Willingdon location. They had quite a few on the shelves. I didn't think twice. I bought the thing. Law of Costco, "Get it now!" think later.
Damn, it's good. I don't know how to describe it. I put some in glass Anchor Hocking containers and froze the rest. It's so sweet. I should have put them all in containers before freezing. It tastes like ice cream already, so it'll be interesting how they are thawed. Everything can be frozen, right? Nature's pause button, jbol.
I asked the bakery department if it's okay to freeze. They told me they can't make this stuff every day. It depends if the have the ingredients on hand. In any case, it is, indeed, hard to find. Go in the afternoon or evening and they is gone. The bakery department takes calls and can tell you if they are making it or not.
To add to the previous post, I called all week to see if they had them (both Burnaby locations) and got the same, "No we don't," so I gave up. I go in a couple of days later to get eggs and milk and there they were. I'm basically by myself, so this tub is going to last me quite some time. Freeze, thaw, freeze thaw, repeat............. can't be good, so me thinks I'll portion it out into individual portions. Should have done that from day one. Live and learn.

I live in North Burnaby, and I’ve found out that getting to North Van via Hastings and Cassiar is pretty fast. Depending on time of day/night, of course. Weeknights after 6:00 pm is best. Sometimes I need something from Canadian Tire or Mark’s and only the North Van Locations have it, it’s faster than going to Metrotown or Coquitlam. I used to go to the transfer station by the bridge often. But, things changed when the new Couitlam transfer station opened up. Anyway…………..

i didn't bother with the app as i don't want another one on my phone, just wanted to use the switch. disappointed i'm 0 for 2 on these, the wife said return 'em and don't get another :okay:

Told my wife yesterday morning that I thought I had a $500 Costco in me and lo and behold I rang up a $670 bill that didn't include any steaks, chicken, pork or pre-made meals. It was an all food deal (with $160 of Uber gift cards) with no household goods too.

batteries were fine b/c i tried the other plug in the pack to see if it's a remote issue and it worked...
i may try 1 more time, disapointing thus far though, for the price like you guys said it's amazing for what it is.
Fucking hell................ I go to Costco way too many times in a week. Anyway, every single time I go, the Tiramisu Scoop Cake is always in stock. I think those bastards lied to me. They said those things are not frozen. Fullshit! The ones I saw at the Brighton Avenue location looked like it was still frozen and cold as hell. Now that RS has made them so popular, they've upped their game, hee hee.............
Also, Capolla Prosciutto was on sale, so I bought some on Saturday. I buy Capolla Hot Baked Capocollo from my favourite deli, Banana Grove. I thought, what the hell, I'll try the Prosciutto. It was great. Went back on Sunday and bought two more (sale ended on Sunday). They're dated way into 2025. Dry cured ham, basically, with amazing texture. Thinly sliced with interleaving between the layers. Freshly sliced at the deli is the best way, but pull it from fridge whenever you have a craving........... nuff said.

I picked up one of those smart plugs yesterday too so we can use them to control our patio lights which are attached to nothing more than an extension cord at the moment. Funny enough just saw it on a whim, didn't know it had been mentioned here. Great deal. I won't use the app either, the remote is what sold me.
I also got some outdoor extension cords. 2x50ft plus a short tri-plug for $50, then immediately returned the single 50-foot one I bought from Canadian Tire last week.
They had lots of scoop cakes there and while I'm sure it's tasty, it looked awful. White slop in a bucket with powdered cocoa on top for $23. No thank you.
For tiramisu, consider these ones. Pack of 6 glass jars of tiramisu for $12. They are great. https://sameday.costco.ca/store/costco-canada/products/21021785-fresh-italian-tiramisu-6-ct

After two scoops, the rest went into the freezer. Probably make a great ice cream. Add some Bailey's to it. Coffee over the frozen leftovers - Affogato?

So I'm a bit disappointed with the incompetence of Costco's tire centre, needed to rant a bit.
I decided I needed to pull the trigger on some new tires for the Sonoma. Being a ZR2, it came from the factory with 31x10.5r15LT tires (regular S10/Sonomas would have 235/75r15).
Now I get LT imperial sizes are not nearly as common anymore but they're not exactly rare either. They're still pretty mainstream in the 4x4 world, just that if you want them they're usually a special order.
So I thought I'd check Costco's website to see what they might have, and to my surprise they actually showed they had the Firestone Destination XT in 31x10.5r15 in stock. $250/tire, all-weather rated, good deal! I could have placed the order online, but since I was going to Costco on Monday anyways I figured I would just do it in person. I took a printout of the Costco website page with all the details (Model, Size, Costco Item #).
When I got to the tire centre, I handed the printout to the woman behind the counter and said "I'd like to order these tires for my truck please". She looks at the printout, and says "OK, what's the vehicle?" (Now in my mind I'm thinking "but, the item # is right there, why doesn't she just look that up?", but OK she's doing her dilligence to make sure it's the right fit for the truck, so I'll humour her).
Me: "1997 Sonoma"
Her: "What Model"
Me: "SLS 4x4"
Her: "What Option?"
Me: "Optional Chassis Package" (Costco's code for the ZR2, because fun fact they came with bespoke frames different from the regular S10/Sonomas)
Sure enough it comes up with the 31x10.5r15 tire size.
Her: "That's weird, I've never seen a tire size like that before"
Me: "Really? It's pretty common in the 4x4 world, you know 31's, 33's, 35's, etc"
Her: "Huh, well the search is not coming up with any tires that match that"
She turns to her coworker at the counter and says "Jim, do you know anything about these tire sizes"
Jim: "Yeah, we don't carry imperial tire sizes, they don't even list them in them computer, Sorry"
Me: "Really? I literally just got this from your website the other day, it literally would have let me order them to your store"
Jim: "Maybe try keying in the item# and see what comes up?
Her: "Oh yeah here they are!"
Jim: "There we go, problem solved!"
Me: *facepalm*
Maybe it's just my Costco, or it's the state of the Auto Parts industry in general where people have no actual automotive experience and all they know is what a computer tells them.
What's really annoying is that if I had been a less pushy person and just accepted the "We don't carry imperial sizes" BS from "Jim", It would have been a complete waste of time and I would have left with nothing.

More and more Costco-sold clothing is making its way into my closet. I can't tell if this is because Costco offers better options for different body types, or whether my tastes are changing as I get older. I'm conflicted about how much their clothes appeal to me now, especially the selection out of their US warehouses. I'll probably roll up to CNY meals in full Costco-sourced attire - parent's disgusted looks be damned.

3) 10g of protein each pancake! (Corrected by Honda it’s 10gram for 2 pancakes)
4) easy to prep, just zap for 2 minutes and boom ready for breakfast.
19g of carbs tho :heckno:
Admittedly it may be a decent replacement for a stack of flapjacks on a sunday morning treat, but don't fool yourself to start eating these daily for breakfast thinking it's nutritious.

+1 to this. I do pay attention and am aware of foods that use flour as well as particular oil, but if I am getting junk food and snacks, I won't go out of my way to not eat it or buy a shittier tasting version of something.
If given the choice (e.g. chinese noodles) I usually opt for rice-based carbs (rice noodles 'fun' vs flour noodles 'mein') i just feel less bloaty (might be completely psychosomatic but regardless it works for me).
But if I am craving bread, pasta, or pizza I don't go out of my way to get a gluten free version or some shit.
EvoFire
01-07-2025, 02:08 PM
The "fun" vs "mein" thing has a lot to do with how your body reacts and less the actual ingredients. My mom reacts poorly to "fun" and usually avoids it because it makes her bloat.
im definitely trying to cut down on using cooking oil in general. when i used to use 2T now i use maybe 2t, so about 1/3rd. makes cooking stuff a bit harder and probably less flavour, but thats a sacrifice im willing to make when it comes to home cooking. doesn't have to taste restaurant grade. plus i drown half my food in msg hot sauce anyway like LGM. also trying to cut down on that... excess oil, salt, etc..

That's fair and I understand where you were coming from - I'd be bummed too buying another Apple Watch unexpectedly.
Regarding my return policy, I will generally suck up the cost if the item fails from negligence, and return/exchange the product if fails from normal operation during its useful shelf life.
Like Honda said Costco will probably take your watch back, so just be careful with the new one (which I'm sure you will from this incident :) )

You shouldn’t feel bad about taking advantage of other people’s stupidity (especially when it’s a corporation we are talking about here). They have a stupid policy that allows you to return trash with no time frame, that’s their problem. You take advantage of it.

I have the exact same one I bought last year and saw the same thing as you. Online is always more expensive, you are basically paying $100 for shipping.
There's a class-action that someone submitted the other day saying that it was wrong that the site and the in-store prices were different. However, I don't see them winning, the site clearly states that the same product might be available in-store for a different price.

spent 3 hours at costco today.... what a zoo!
something went wrong when getting my membership. long story short.
signed up, started shopping, got an email saying my account has been put on hold, went up to the membership area and they scanned my card and it says everything is fine on their end.
continued shopping then paid with no problem. got some $1.50 hotdogs and it was fine.
waited in line for like 10mins for some cheap gas and the membership wasnt working. got out of line, repark.
went back inside and waited in line for another 10mins. sorted everything out, ended up redoing everything with a new membership. went back to fill gas.
then i realized if they had to give me a new membership then i probably wouldnt get the 2% cash back on my $2000 purchase, repark.
went back inside and explained to them my concerns. ended up returning all the items and repurchasing it on the new card.

My last trip was $550 without even thinking about it/getting very little in terms of groceries. I always look for deals on things I use all the time as I think it was Mark Cuban who said the easiest way to build wealth is to buy things you use all the time in bulk.
The protein I use from there was $12 off for $32, got 3 of those so that’s $100 right there
On sale vitamin D and C, probably $50 between those two
On sale ziplock freezer bags, $12
So almost $200 in non-food items in 1 trip. Every two weeks we do the majority of our food shopping there between 300-500
I’m still of the mind of buying 6 peppers for $12 and potentially not using all 6 is a better financial move than paying $2.50 a pop at a Safeway etc.
store next to me is never more than 3.99/lb for any colour peppers, and usually more like 2.99 or less. thank god for independent produce stores, and even luckier to live a 1 minute walk from it. sometimes i jay walk both ways if it's not busy and can be door to door in 3-4 minutes. safeway be charging like 5.99/lb for red peppers... dafuq.

do you know what kind of a G you need to be to roll up in Costco (i assume on the island) with a X5M, proceed to buy 2k worth of shit and then RETURN IT, just to buy it all again to get the 2% executive membership savings (40 bucks yo)

Other than that I just buy some produce and meat and the Detroit Pizza and beefy meat pies... gluten free bagels for my gf

Costco runs are so expensive now. It used to be a full cart is like 2xx. Now, if I load up full cart with meat and whatever crap I buy there, it's easily 500+. And that's under the fact that Costco BC doesn't have alcohol.
My usual cashback was anywhere between 400-600, but that's sharing with my parents. Except the year that my parents got their cabin and had to buy... well, everything. We almost maxed out the cashback that year at $11xx. And I got to keep all that cashback check to myself. :fuckthatshit:

I don’t think regular household can max it. Even when my parents bought everything a cabin needs, from all the appliances to mattresses to beds and whatever you can think of, we still didn’t get to the 62500 of spending needed to mass the cash back for that year. The few peep I know who max out regularly all run businesses.
I do have a buddy who runs a Costco resale business, he used to have like 10 cards just so that he could get all the cash back he can. Until Costco caught the wind and cut all his memberships except one.

They're just well made, good quality noodles, in my opinion. The ingredients are simple.
If I were to draw a line of hype = 10/10 will eat again because social media told me so, I would say these are more realistically 7/10 with some room to bump to 8 or fail down to a 5 if you let the hype get to you. No need to overthink it.

That's why the Choi Heong Yuen stuff makes for a good substitute / replacement. They are widely available here at the usual Chinese supermarkets. I think I have only had the Koi Kei stuff a small handful of times, so I don't really know how they compare to other brands.
The Macau bakery brands (that are really made in Macau) are so much better than the PRC-made imitations that I don't even mind paying for the extra 30 - 40% premium.
