was pretty funny when he demanded a massage but only after he took a shit first.
He's certainly a pylon on the track. it's gotta be tough, the really young guys are probably facing being the shittiest driver on the grid for the first time since they were a fetus in a shifter kart.

Some of those turns are pretty tight, especially that chicane that everyone is bouncing over, there are also some bumpy sections that seems like would catch some out.
Gonna be a lot of attrition?

Interesting story that is coming from Hamilton and Mercedes.
Does Hamilton have a legitimate beef about the team putting the decision on changing tires on him while the safety car was out near the end of the Miami Grand Prix?
-sounds like bad timing with the safety car
coming out.
https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/33883242/lewis-hamilton-extra-stop-felt-gamble-want-take?platform=amp
Hamilton was relegated behind Mercedes teammate George Russell late on, with Russell able to make a stop for fresh tyres under the safety car after a long stint on the hard tyre propelled him up the order.
With the safety car still out Hamilton was asked by Mercedes if he wanted to make another stop, to which he replied: "You tell me, man! I don't want to lose a place to George."
Hamilton has had a string of bad luck thanks to poorly timed safety cars recently, most famously at last year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when it cost him the championship, but also at races this year in Saudi Arabia and Australia.
On this occasion, Hamilton opted against pitting and Russell later passed him for fifth position thanks to the performance advantage from his fresher tyres.
"When you're out there you don't have all the information," Hamilton told media on Sunday evening. "You don't know where everyone is, where you'll come out, you don't have the picture they have on the screen.
When you're given the responsibility to make the decision it feels like your gambling and I don't like that. I was like, 'you guys make the decision'. Either way, we've just been unfortunate with the timing of the safety car today."

I subscribed to F1TV last season and it's so worth it. Hearing the radio messages live adds a whole new dimension. Once i watched an entire race from Lewis' onboard, start to finish with live radio all the way through. Plus 4k and no annoying TSN commercials. If you haven't yet, I recommend it.

Do you get any of the pre/post race shows with F1TV? And can you lag-start a race (ie start watching a race from the beginning while it's still running) or do you have to wait until the live feed is completely over before watching a replay from the start?

There are a couple caveats.
The SkyF1 pre-post race coverage is a LOT better than the F1TV crew. So if you enjoy the Sky pre-post race shows like I do, you may want to consider keeping TSN. My usual routine is watch TSN until the race starts, and then switch back to TSN after the checkered flag.
Also, I use the Roku app to watch on my TV and it does NOT allow you to start watching from the beginning if the race is still live. That is the one annoyance. However I believe other platforms can do it? Reddit F1TV sub is a great resource for the ins and outs of each platform.

Team Ferrari fucked up haha.
Leclerc led from the pole and screamed in rage when told to pit for a second tire change on Lap 22 — at the same time as Sainz. His engineer realized the mistake and yelled "stay out!" but it was too late and Leclerc returned to the track in fourth.
What are you doing?" Leclerc shouted.
After the race, he lectured Ferrari again.
"No words, no words. We cannot do that," he radioed.
"It was a freaking disaster today," Leclerc said after. "The win was clearly in our hands. We had the performance, we had everything. I just don't really understand the call."
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto accepted the team made the wrong call for Leclerc.

Also, the TV production was horrendous all weekend. Kept cutting away from the good shit. And the chirons, timers, leaderboard, wtf... there was no sense, rhyme or reason to them appearing on the screen. Fastest lap didn't get updated for like 5 minutes later.
Monaco is also never a very entertaining race at all, im surprised we even saw any overtaking at all, its normally just strategy for pit, then you sit and wait til the end. This was actually one of the more entertaining Monaco races in a while, a shake up of the qualifying positions, multiple pit stops, heavy rain, I don't think it could have gotten any better than that. I didn't mean any assumptions, or offense.
To be honest, I feel like the track has outlived its use in F1 and should and will be remembered as one of the great tracks, but does not need to be in a modern schedule.
The technology has far outgrown the limits of the track, its merely an exhibition at this point. Which is fine if that's how they want to keep it, but its just odd that we are trying to improve a track that is very much bound by the city its built in. (Even if they keep it, then at least they can correct the production issues and make it a great production)

Bottas is already on his 3rd engine I think they said at the beggining? What a waste if it’s reliability issues keeping the fastest car off the podium.

I am honestly pleasantly surprised at Russel's personality. He is very humble when it comes to Hamilton, which is great because it shows that he has a lot of respect for his teammate.
When Russel first announced for Mercedes, I thought he was going to be a cocky prick, I was proven wrong.

Basically 20 - 30 people were offloaded from an Air Canada flight from Montreal to London by police with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Many of the passengers were coming from the F1 race including journalists along with some Williams and Red Bull team members.
Now Air Canada is doing damage control admitting some passengers may have been removed without cause and were stuck in Montreal and told to book their own new flights. Meanwhile their bags all flew to London!

Great race! Max still way out ahead in points so I'm still good for now.
I was truly happy for Carlos, he even said that his pole position time for qualifying he felt was he wasn't pushing as hard, it was a surprise to him. I'm glad he was able to over ride the team orders and get the W.

Checo really lucked out with the safety car.
Lewis with a solid drive, going pretty long on the first stint with medium tires.
Gutted for Max, still a good drive with a busted car. Pretty crazy how sensitive the aerodynamics are with the new regulations. Reminded me of last year's Hungarian race when Max drove with his entire right side barge board and floor destroyed.

No kidding, this would have been an easy win for him on such a slick track. He lost parts of his floor around lap 20-22, I think there was a radio message. Crazy to see how the floor made that much difference, I think there were a few out there who did the entire race on damage wings.
edit: In all honesty, I loved seeing Max v/ Mick, even though I was so scared for Mick, because we all know how Max drives with elbows out when he feels threatened.
Max also went thru the wringer this week with all the racism things from Piquet's comment (then his defence of the comment), then GF's uncle's Insta post that Kelly liked. Then the shit with his dad. I gained a lot more respect for him this week because of how he kept his cool with all the shit flying around.
Also gained like x100 respect for Russell, sacrificed his race to ensure that Zhou was safe before he left his side. Dude is an absolute legend for this. I'm sure he will hear about it in the briefings, but apparently its a trait of his, he had done this in Karting as well.
Perez running Hamilton out of space was noted, but nothing came out of it?
He didn't gain a lasting advantage, there was a lot going on there, and it was just pure racing, they just ran out of road a few times. I think they were fine.

If Ferrari wants a chance at winning anything, they'll need to reign in Sainz. Sprint qualifying was already a sign that Leclerc will drive elbows out teammate or not. If the two Ferrari's keep driving this way, it's just a matter of time before they crash into each other or they give away too many points racing each other.

^ as much as I am a Ferrari fan boy 24/7.
I want to say RB probably gonna take home both titles this year.
Doesn't matter how fast the Ferrari is, consistency wins championships. Looking past the 5 races and you will see how Ferrari will hand over the championship on a silver platter...
And as Nammer said above... Ferrari (Leclerc) is gonna lost due to (in this order):
1. Ferrari strategists
2. Ferrari reliability
3. Sainz (not because he is slow, but because he is fast enough to take points away from Charles) I didn't have a driver preference going into the year, but the amount of points given away by Sainz already (sometimes not his fault) should already be clear to him that he is there to take points away from Max, but should let Charles thru when given the circumstances
4. Max Verstappen, as much as I hated him for stealing Hamilton's title last year. Not that he doesn't derserve it, because he is a very fast talented driver in the correct car. But to win it in the way he did last year is just not the way to go. Well he is even in a better car this year now, so yea, he is gonna win...
FML I just wanted Ferrari so trample over everybody like back in high school when I got into F1 seriously lol... (still bitter when Vettle stole that title from Alonso lolol, fucking red bull and their fast cars hahaha). I love Vettle though lol...

Max won the title last year because of a blown call that made up for 6 blown calls in Hamiltons favour. He never should have been that close if they didn't favour him to get there. I say that as someone who would never want max to win a single race, never mind a championship.

Vettel retiring end of the season
https://www.instagram.com/p/CgjUE5xKW-B/
I hereby announce my retirement from Formula One by the end of the 2022 season.
Probably I should start with a long list of people to thank now. But I feel it is more important to explain the reasons behind my decision.
I love this sport, it has been central to my life since I can remember. But as much as there is life on track, there is my life off track too. Being a racing driver has never been my sole identity. I very much believe in identity by who we are and how we treat others, rather than what we do.
Who am I?
I am Sebastian, father of three children and husband to a wonderful woman. I am curious and easily fascinated by passionate or skilled people. I am obsessed with perfection. I am tolerant and feel we all have the same rights to live, no matter what we look like, where we come from and who we love.
I love being outside. I love nature and its wonders. I'm stubborn and impatient. I can be really annoying. I like to make people laugh. I like chocolate and the smell of fresh bread. My favourite colour is blue. I believe in change and progress, and that every little bit makes a difference. I am an optimist and I believe people are good.
Next to racing, I have grown a family and I love being around them. I have grown other interests outside Formula One. My passion for racing and Formula One comes with lots of time spent away from them and takes a lot of energy. Committing to my passion the way I did and the way I think it is right does no longer go side by side with my wish to be a great father and husband.
The energy it takes to become one with the car and the team, to chase perfection, takes focus and commitment. My goals have shifted from winning races and fighting for championships, to seeing my children grow, passing on my values, helping them up when they fall, listening to them when they need me, not having to say good bye, and most importantly, being able to learn from them and let them inspire me.
Children are our future. Further I feel there is so much to explore and learn, about life and about myself.
Speaking of the future, I feel we live in very decisive times and how we all shape these next years will determine our lives. My passion comes with certain aspects that I have learnt to dislike. They might be solved in the future but the will to apply that change has to grow much, much stronger, and has to be leading to action today. Talk is not enough, and we cannot afford to wait. There is no alternative. The race is underway.
My best race? Still to come.
I believe in moving forwards and moving on. Time is a one way street and I want to go with the times. Looking back is only going to slow you down.
I look forward to race down unknown tracks and I will be finding new challenges. The marks I left on track will stay until time and rain will wash them away. New ones will be put down. Tomorrow belongs to those shaping today. The next corner is in good hands, as the new generation has already turned in. I believe there is still a race to win.
Farewell, and thanks for letting me share the track with you. I loved every bit of it.

How much do you think the personality of Lawrence Stroll and the fact Lance will always be the team # 2 had something to do with Vettel deciding now is the time to retire?
I think that it is 100 percent. The owner is always going to put his son as the number 2 even though Lance’s career so far has been lacklustre.

It was exactly what was shown in the highlights, they made Leclerc drive on hards even though he wanted to extend his stint on mediums. Dunno why the engineers don't listen to their drivers when they can feel what's happening in the car.

There's almost no way that Danny Ric is going to Alpine as they will probably promote Piastri. The only way that I can see something like this happening is if Piastri is loaned to Williams for a year or two so he can cut his teeth in F1 there and then come in and hit the ground running at Alpine.
It's really nice to see that Merc is able to keep up with Ferrari and RB as the races are so much more interesting when there are three teams fighting for first instead of 2.

After reading way too many articles today, I am certain all this chaos was was triggered by Alonso haha.
- Alpine had no clue Alonso was going to leave. They found out by reading the press release! lol
- Alonso's move took everyone by surprise, except Toto Wolff knew! He would have had to sign off on Aston doing the deal as Aston's engine supplier. Which is crazy to me that Toto (and thus Mercedes) has so much sway across everything in F1, but makes sense I guess.
- Alpine already has a contract in place with OP as a Renault junior driver and believes that contract ties him to a seat with Alpine F1 next year.
- If OP is willing to turn down his first seat in F1 with Alpine (solid mid-pack team) just like that, he must already have another seat. i.e. McLaren. i.e. i.e. So long Daniel.
- Because Alpine didn't know Alonso was about to jump ship, Alpine was instead lobbying for Williams to sign OP next year. But OP didn't want to go there and that was the main reason he started talking to others.
- I feel bad for Daniel. He's such a good guy and talented, it's a shame things just never seem to 'click' for him throughout his entire F1 career in the way they did for say Sainz or Russell. Going back to Renault would be rough for him. Kind of like when Homer Simpson quit the power plant but then was forced to ask for his job back lol.
- If OP and Alpine end up in a contractual dispute, the FIA has an independent arbitration panel they can use. The last time this arbitration panel was used was when Jenson Button tried to leave BAR for Williams but Williams put up a block. The FIA sided with BAR so JB had to stay. But then BAR eventually became Ross Brawn's racing team and Jenson won his first and only championship, meanwhile Williams ended up down in the dumps and has been ever since.
- If OP ends up at McLaren, then keep in mind OP's agent is Mark Webber, who was replaced at Red Bull by Daniel, lol

Funny enough this same exact scenario is happening in the USA right now with Indycar and Alex Palou who said he signed a deal with Zak Brown to be part of the McLaren family next year, possibly F1 or something else. Chip Ganassi was like no way, we have him under contract already.
On 12 July, Chip Ganassi Racing put out a press release stating that it had taken up its option on Palou’s services for 2023, the driver having signed a two-year-plus-one-year-option contract towards the end of his rookie season with Dale Coyne Racing.
The statement contained a quote from team owner Chip Ganassi, stating: “Alex’s track record speaks for itself. He’s a proven champion and one of the most formidable drivers in the world. We are very excited to continue working together.”
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect was that this same press release included a quote from Palou himself. This read: “It’s a great feeling knowing I’ll be back with Chip Ganassi Racing next season.
“The team welcomed me with open arms from Day 1, and I’m excited to continue working with Chip, [CGR managing director] Mike Hull, the folks on the #10 NTT DATA Honda and everyone within the organisation. The goals remain the same and we will continue to work relentlessly towards achieving them.”
Why would a driver who had just signed a McLaren contract say that? Turns out, according to Palou, he didn’t.
Some hours later he tweeted: “I have recently learned from the media that this afternoon, without my approval, Chip Ganassi Racing issued a press release announcing that I would be driving with CGR in 2023. Even more surprising was that CGR’s release included a “quote” which did not come from me.
“I did not approve that press release, and I did not author or approve that quote. As I have recently informed CGR, for personal reasons, I do not intend to continue with the team after 2022. This evening’s unfortunate events aside, I have great respect for the CGR team, and look forward to finishing this season strongly together."

There were some analysis about it by commentators. Ferrari pretty much laid out the rest of the race at the early first pit stop as they no longer had enough med tire life to last until the end and put on softs to end the race. Literally shooting themselves in the foot.

I don't blame Ricciardo for leaving Red Bull, it was becoming pretty clear the favored Max, who by his own right was getting better and better.
The Max of 2021 and 2022 would absolutely wipe the floor with Ricciardio.
Leaving Renault (who was on an upward trajectory at the time) for McLaren was a bit dumb, everyone massively underestimated Lando.

Ugh forgot F1 blocks their videos bleeh
The FIA World Motor Sport Council has today approved power unit regulations set to come into effect for the 2026 season – with increased electrical power and 100% sustainable fuels two of the key aspects of the newly-approved rules.
The 2026 Formula 1 power units will maintain the current V6 internal combustion engine architecture, with the FIA setting out four key pillars of the new regulations:
Maintaining the spectacle – the 2026 power unit will have similar performance to the current designs, utilising high-power, high-revving V6 internal combustion engines and avoiding excessive performance differentiation to allow for improved raceability
Environmental sustainability – the 2026 power unit will include an increase in the deployment of electrical power to up to 50% and utilise a 100% sustainable fuel
Financial sustainability – financial regulations regarding the power units will reduce the overall costs for competitors whilst retaining the cutting-edge technological showcase that is at the core of Formula 1
Attractive to new power unit manufacturers – the regulations are intended to make it possible and attractive for newcomers to join the sport at a competitive level
READ MORE: More efficient, less fuel, and carbon net zero – 7 things you need to know about the 2026 F1 engine regulations
The 2026 regulations will see the current Motor Generator Unit Heat, or MGU-H, element removed – while the power output on the power units’ Energy Recovery Systems will be increased to 350 kilowatts.
