Will definitely be interesting to see how things with Hamilton play out. I hope he stays, not just for the future battles with Max, but also to see him up against George as a teammate.

Just things I noticed from the Haas vs RB:
Air intake: Haas = rounded triangle, RB = rounded trapizoid
Front wing: Haas = square point, RB = rounded point
Front wing side fins: Haas = straight up, RB = pointed inwards
Side mirrors: Haas = vert./horz. supports curved, RB = vert./horz. supports straight
Front left/right intake: shape different between the two
theres probably many more minor things

I think teams can do their own individual testing as they see fit on their own tracks (wind tunnels are limited)...the 'official' preseason testing is where they all come together to test on one track.

I think I am already on ep 6. Some thoughts:
- The tension between Ricciardo and Norris seems very manufactured. Based on all other interactions, seems like they get along fine, Netflix just blew up some of the comments from Norris and made it a story line.
- Tsunoda is awesome. I wish they got more into his time in Faenza. Generally hope he's able to turn it around.
- Gunter continues to be a hilarious character.

I completely agree with your post.
I finished the whole season, there wasn't much Netflix could do to spin the narrative as the 2021 by it self was already thrilling and dramatic.
Christian Horner getting tons of screen time, typical Netflix making him look like the biggest asshole team principle :lawl:
EDIT: I felt that Netflix rushed on the editting. The AlphaTauri segment had a screw up on the subtitle. It said it was Tost talking to Yuki but in fact it was Helmut
The engine sound track was really out of sync on a lot of the scenes.

I was confused about this as well.
I think they purposely made Riccardo look like the bad guy here, make it look like he's a bad teammate. Showing how Carlos Sainz is so friendly when he goes to his new team and getting along with all teammates. Then Riccardo, they are implying that he is a bad teammate.
I am thinking it may have something to do with luring Max back into doing interviews next season. But its crazy how they can craft the narrative like that (proving Max correct). I honestly thought that Riccardo and Norris had an amazing relationship throughout the season.
this was the biggest shock to me.

I haven't followed as closely to F1 before the last few years, but I am generally surprised at the hate that Hamilton gets, is it simply because he's been so good?
Everything I've seen from him, D2S or otherwise, he has not shown any arrogance , he's always first to congratulate his team for successes and take failures on himself, speaks with humility and let's his driving speak for itself.
Perhaps there was prior history where he wasn't quite as polished?

I thought Hamilton and Mercedes were portrayed very favorably in DTS...
Especially the Silverstone crash, they put in Lewis' radio asking if Max was ok immediately after the crash but in reality he didn't ask until he got back to the pits for red flag.
But that's DTS as max called it. Lots of TV induced drama, highly entertaining regardless.

By that logic, they also took out the part where Verstappen tried to drive off the Merc, with the rear wheel spinning by Hamilton's head.

No they didn't. They featured that along with toto inspecting the damage afterwards.
After finishing the DTS season, the season wasn't that great tbh.
I think they wasted a lot of footage on making Mazepin look bad, which I don't have any issues with, but they spent too much time on it, they could have got the point across a lot quicker.
No interviews with Max really made a huge difference, the last race stuff fell flat for me.
I think this season I was much too involved in all the news and controversy in real time, that the Netflix rendition of events wasn't interesting to me. They glossed over sooo many things, they could have spent more time talking about the rear wing controversy, because it followed them for 3 races, as well as Max touching the rear wing/fine etc.
I think I was just de sensitised to the information as I already knew what happened more than the show could provide.
The one thing that I thought was something I didnt catch was Ricciardo and Norris's relationship, but then that was quickly squashed with their reaction video.
So.. not a good season for the show for me
However, I always LOVE watching to see the cars and races in 4K! It always looks so gorgeous. I really hope netflix gets those live streaming rights for this reason.

People always forget the shit that Hamilton did to gain positions, he used to be fairly scrappy, people forget about this.
Max is much more scrappier, but its youthfulness, its exciting, and him and Perez working together is magic.

I think what you're asking for is what is DRS known as drag reduction system. I think this video will help you explain it. Tons of other videos on YouTube also.
EDIT: Then there's also the battery hybrid system where drivers can charge the battery and deploy it for defense and attack mode. But I believe your question was leaning towards more on the DRS system.

You have to be within 1 sec behind the person in front when you cross a DRS detection line, then you're given the use of the DRS system (kind of like driving over a power up in mario kart)
that's why ya saw Max and Charles braking during the race trying to let the other pass em at the detection zone, bcuz with the new regs the cars are able to drive really close to one another, so they're able to play more of a game of tag with the DRS line
Also why in the last race Charles kept letting Max pass before the straights and Max kept falling for it, same with this race it took Max a min before catching on
It's also why Hamilton refused to pass Max last season so Max slowed even more and Ham hit Max instead of passing

Interestingly the DRS line hasn't played AS BIG of a role in other years (yes, we've seen incidents of this in the past, but not like we have this year). I think it highlights the new F1 design which is allowing drivers to follow more closely, which was the original problem DRS was brought in to fix.
Now if we could get 1 refuel stop during the race, shit would get real!!!

So t hey wanted to create more passing, but all they did was create a new strategy where they refuse passing LUL
This track is a bit of an anomaly in that there is a large DRS effect, along with the placement of the DRS detection line right before the main straight which then feeds into another passing zone.
Seeing drivers purposely braking to avoid being ahead at the detection line is very unusual and the only other time I can remember that coming into play was last year at this same track. So it's all very situation-dependent.
That being said, this year with the new regulations, we are all curious to see how the DRS zone at each track will come into play given the new aerodynamics.

A lot of people seem to be upset about the fact that drivers slow down to play the "DRS detection" game.
I say fuck that. I think it's great, I love the gamesmanship.
That being said, I think the DRS as it was set up at this track was maybe just a touch too powerful.
But I also think that despite the new regs, DRS does seem like it's still going to be necessary for a while.

Exactly... I love it... it adds another layer to the drivers/team prowess, and becomes part of their strat. Same as the first race, pruposely letting Verstappen overtake on turn one, just to get him coming out of turn 4...
On top of being the fastest on track with a competitive car, you also have to be the smartest on track.
Though nth can help with bad luck, feel bad for Perez ...

Also if races become even more competitive down the road where there’s 3-4 cars in contention toward the end of the race, you’re going to have to play that DRS game even more carefully as you’ll just be backing up a pack of cars waiting to overtake within those last few zones

It contains all the practice sessions, qualifying, and the main race, along with the press conferences, be quick with downloading the videos before they get removed.

So sad for Max, as much as you love to hate him. But having 2 DNFs now that are not his fault is.. sad and dissapointing.
Merc looking like the dark horse of the year...damn...
Big congratz to Ferrari though, being a huge Ferrari fanboy, I am just a happy camper!

Saw the video of Seb riding the scooter around, I think these guys are just acting out on purpose now for the show… these worlds get ruined when they’re “reality” shows and everyone assumes everyone they’re watching is acting normal despite there being camera crews all around them and they know what has been picked out for the Netflix show in precious seasons.
I don’t want F1 drivers to turn into actors instead of F1 drivers.

Vettel got fined for riding a scooter at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne at the end of practice.
https://twitter.com/f1/status/1512291019798495232?s=21
You see, there’s a rule that states no one can enter the track in the five-minute period after the end of a session “with the exception of specifically identified personnel”.
Seb was deemed not to be such a person, and has now been given a €5,000 fine for *checks notes* riding slowly around an empty track on a motorcycle. Because F1.
5000 Euros fine.
Pretty pathetic fine from F1 if you ask me.

Wonder how much the issues with the RB power unit are associated with max’s driving? Lol I started listening to a few F1 podcasts and some interesting takes.
I gotta say, that Ferrari looks amazing coming out of a corner roaring down a straight with those massive rears
Next race going to be huge in Italy with Ferrari going like they are, can’t wait

They didn't have any issues last year and the PU is basically the same since they used their 2022 spec engine last year. Maybe they've been letting Max drive at level 11 but it's only race #3

Steiner is getting so much love from fans with his epic quotes
For the first years of Gunther in F1 I thought he was unprofessional and kind of a joke. Now thanks to the last two seasons of Drive and some of his organic media soundbites I feel like he'd actually be one of the best team managers to work for if you were a switched on hard working individual. This latest quote is absolute fire that applies to every walk of life.

Who are the bad team managers though? The current lot mostly seem pretty competent.
Wolff (the best IMO), Horner, Binotto are all high quality. Otmar, Jost, Zac, Krack all seem alright.

But I guess Haas would have a hard time even attracting someone like Alonso etc.

Honestly I want to like Stroll given he’s Canadian etc. but it just seems like he’s too dumb to ever realize his full driving potential. Obviously to reach F1 you have to have some form of intelligence even with a owner father. However, every time I see him in an interview he kind of gives off that Buffoon vibe.
A big thing to watch was when him and Seb were given all those different mclarens to drive and seb figured them out relatively quickly whereas Lance just struggled to understand the car

I don't think any are particularly bad, my thoughts were simply on Steiner when he entered the championship and how he presented himself (or was presented in media). However, like Producer said Capito doesn't seem to be in there with much grit and enthusiasm and isn't doing much for Williams. It may be too early to tell if he can turn them around, but their fall from competitiveness is hard and sad to watch. They're abysmal.

Lol aye saw that right after guess that answers that, mick will be 25 by the time Sainzs contract ends, guess he has til then to prove himself
Schumacher still has a lot of development to do and needs some proven and consistent results. IF that happens I see him going up to a mid-level team like McLaren or Toro Rosso before he gets on with one of the top three. If Leclerc and Sainz continue to put Ferrari on the podium through their 2024 contracts I can't see Ferrari moving on from one driver for unproven nepotism.

TBH I found it to be kind of a boring race... Not wet enough to make it crazy, not dry enough to make it fast or allow DRS. Tsunoda held up most of the field and they just couldn't get by him. LeClerc fucking up was the most exciting thing that happened pretty much.
Although Rosberg on commentary was fucking hilarious. I love it when people are blatant about their feelings, and he doesn't even try to be subtle.

VAG hoping that significant rule changes in 2026 will allow them to enter at a time that all teams will be making the switch to fully synthetic e-fuel, significantly closing the competitive gap for a new engine.
