ninjatune, someone is going to poop on your head for posting so many pictures. I think the limit is like 2 or something. I like the one with the puppy in the window, it's cute!

You're thinking of the Daily Showcase Thread in which you're only allowed to post three per day, because it's a daily kind of thread. It's supposed to jsut be a taste. This is just all about cars... no limits. :)

Interesting photos guys! Keep up the good work!

ColinK 01-18-2008 01:49 PM

this was my first try at automotive flash photography with a 2 flash setup. Composition is horible with the tree growing out the roof etc, but we were very limited on time and I was focusing on getting the flashes right. It didn't turn out even as close to as good as I had hoped, but it's a start I guess. I have a lot to learn :(

ANY C&C is appreciated! :)

Only thing i would add that you didnt mention would be the use of tire shine. Adds that extra little wow to automotive pics.

Alphamale 01-18-2008 05:26 PM

I'd say that the brightspots in the reflection isn't too good. You could get rid of that with those thingymabobbers (I forgot the name).

ColinK 01-18-2008 06:08 PM

haha yea, for sure. His front lip is cracked, those are winter rims etc. I'll reshoot it in the spring when it looks all pretty. Did you used to have an FD as well? This thing's got a Gt35/42r hybrid-fast as hell!

Well, after getting my own SLR (instead of borrowing from work) I figured I'd take it out yesterday... found a nice little wharf that should render some nice photos one we get a bit better weather... hopefully it'll get a bit better after some time in photoshop, but I'm a bit too lazy to do that this morning...

nicely composed. a bit higher might have
been better

but nonetheless, lots of potential in this one.

this is very nice! good composition, and nice feel.

things i might change is
- straighten horizon
- car and background looks seperated. the background looks very surreal, while the car looks.... plain.
- maybe instead of direct harsh flash, bounce off something to give amore even lighting, will bring out the car alot more rather than a hot spot like that, looks less 'amatuer'
- dont make such a harsh cutoff for the darkened area around the car. again it seperates the focus and the background. makes the picture uncomfortable to look at, feather the effect more
- throw on a glow layer over the car to give it a more even light effect and takes away the swirl marks on the paint lol.

other than that. thats a pretty ncie picture

ColinK 01-20-2008 12:29 AM

^ Hey! Thanks for the great feedback! :) I'm going to goto Lens and Shutter in the next couple of days to get a diffuser. I think that will help quite a bit as well.

But what I didn't quite understand was the "glow layer" are you talking about duplicating the layer and changing the Layer Style (ie. Colour burn, Linear Dodge, Overlay etc) or is it a blending effect?

Senna4ever 01-20-2008 12:41 AM

You're going to need one hell of a big diffuser & light source. The diffuse glow filter will put a glow onto your highlights.

I got to practice my panning when my run group wasn't on the autox track today. Some didn't come out nearly as good as I had hoped but I'm pretty happy with this shot:

I like the tone with the red cones and the coldness of the rest of it :)

too much under the black imo

i know it's suppose to be a tease. but i feel
like there is more "covered up" less "tease"

MikesJo 01-26-2008 05:07 PM

^ Thanks Kev. I was going to make it less dark but I couldn't even see the front wheels in the photo :(. lol. The ground was too pale too. Better luck next time.
