Umm.. I have the defense trinket... and tier is far from bis. Very few pally tanks use tier gear because the set bonus is shit along with the fact the stats aren't very good. My set is based on avoidance/threat generation, and any guild main tank that can't hold aggro with very geared dps/healers is a useless tank.

Expertise diff negligible, def rating diff negligable. The biggest diff is block value and parry rating. Any tank can tell you parry rating > block value.
Compare the two and you'll find that my helm is much better than the t7.5 helm. That's the reason I used my helm token to buy a holy t7.5 helm instead of the tanking one.

Plus $50 for a boomkin with almost all bis gear except maybe 1-2 items?

whoa, i never said that you should get 4 piece bonus.
but run with 2 or 3 pieces... and sorry, i meant should get rid of the defense trinket :P

err and parry isnt that great.. too much dr imo to consider it a viable source of avoidance..
at least block value gives threat and partial damage absorb
thats why str is probably 2nd best stat next to stam
str gives ap, block which equals to more threat.
which is also why any gem that involves parry is garbage...

Parry gives threat too because after a parry, the next melee swing is much faster. It's a much better stat for DKs, though but no one should ever gem parry.

Pally tanks should be enchanting +20 str to their weapons, BTW.

Sigh.. you guys need to realize there's no one way to build a tank. I've yet to find someone who has been able to pull aggro off me so that's why I haven't changed my mongoose enchant yet. Sure there's better enchants out there right now, but for me it's not necessary yet. And no, parry doesn't increase the speed of the next attack. Only dodge does.

And about that defense rating trinket, there's nothing much that is better than it in terms of defense rating. It gives me the flexibility to use less def rating in other sockets so I don't see how it is not good.

by the looks of all your gears.. it looks like you haven't even cleared naxx 10.. otherwise you'd at least have 1 or 2 piece of naxx 10 gear or even tier gears? the only thing i see is a BOE naxx 10 item and it's not even meant for a mage.. and a word of advice.. you are no way geared for arcane arcane is haste>crit ur gears are the other way around :S

Either the DPS you run with is bad that cant pull aggro off you or you are that pro and can generate a butt ton of threat.

With my pally I pull about 6k TPS on average. BiS warlocks for example pull aggro off me and need salvs...

and oh... 20 str to weapon or accuracy is the best enchants.
every other enchant for tanks are pretty bad imo.
the defense trinket needs to go... theres alot of better things to get instead + the use effect is crap as well.
if i was a jc i would roll with jc trinkets probably

That was my error. I read wrong from another site and never bothered to double check. And no, my threat is fine. My guild has the 2 of the top geared players in our serv and none of them can pull aggro off me unless I slack off. I looked at your build and I see parts you should change to increase your threat output. Try using glyph of seal of vengeance (+10 expertise) + putting 5 points in the holy talent that buffs seal of corruption. Also, my main weapon > yours. The threat output from Hammer of Righteous adds up. Lastly I geared for a balance between expertise/stamina. Looking at your gems alone, you're going for the mana sponge build which doesn't do much to help your threat generation.

Also, I know my enchant isn't the best atm, I just said that I didn't change it cause I didn't need to yet. Not gonna waste gold buying enchants when I play my druid more.

And yes i know how to play this game. There's no need to be a dick because I have wrong information. Plus, when did knowing theory translate into a good player?

you should just xfer when I do if you're ally, or come play on Tortheldrin or whatever with me :D I made a hordie, she's level 4! I can't find her on armory though lol.

I don't know who the first part of that message was directed at but I don't have a pally so I'm guessing not me. However, I know the mechanics of all classes so I do know what I'm talking about. As far as I know, expertise is less important to paladins than other tanking classes because of the higher than usual amount of spells used to hold agro. Expertise is much more important to warriors, druids and death knights...in that order.

Knowing theory and game mechanics makes you a better player. It means knowing proper rotations, min/maxing and priorities in raid situations.

My shaman was very near BiS pre-3.1 and my DK was two pieces from full BiS tank gear. With Ulduar out, they're no longer even close.

Pre-3.1 BiS stat-stick...and a good trinket. But that's about it.

Lol yea I figured it wasn't worth much :lol I don't like raiding, especially not with my guild. They all have sticks up their asses (hence me xferring, which my GL is going to be mad about since we've been friends for a few years now and I still haven't told him).
