I have been following the the flame wars etc., especially on R1ksta and his new Boxster S.

I am similar in a way to R1cksta. I had a BMW given to me as my first car in highschool. However, it was a 15 year old 5 series that I had to maintain and run for 10 minutes before I can even drive off kind off car. The car was my families beater car and no, I didn't earn money to buy it. I too worked PT hours etc. but it wasn't nearly enough for me to buy and maintain my own car. This doesn't mean that I don't know the value of money. I value it and I value that I don't have enough of it.

I also don't work crazy FT hours etc. as my parents would rather have me dedicate my time towards school etc. so that I can strive towrds a better job in the future to earn my own money.

They bought me a new mercedes when I got into university as well. Some people see me as spoiled but my family sees it as being sensible. They can afford to buy my the cheapest mercedes so why not? Its not like they went out to buy me an AMG or a 500SL. I wanted a manual BMW but no dice. I got a C class as it is reliable and safe. I got a silver instead of my choice of black as it was considered "safer". All they wanted was for me to do well and dedicate my time and concentrate on my studies. Safety and reliability was also a major concern to them.

What I want to say is that this does not mean kids with above average income families do not know the value of money. I grew up in East Van and Burnaby. When I made new friends in West Van all my friends had tons more money than me. What they got in allowance per week was more than I had in my bank account that I saved for 3 years! Yes, many of my friends were idiots who had riced out new BMW's and Mercedes'. They also crashed them as soon as they got them as well. I just don't want people to generalize and stereotype everyone that gets a ncie car from their parents.

I just bought a boxster with my hard earned money. No, I didn't go out and spend 70k+. I bought it used off one of my spoiled friends who bought it new in 97 for over 100K+. Its still a great car and I got it at a fraction of the original purchase price. The insurance, gas and maintanence will still hurt me big time. Yeah I know I coulda got a newer car with more HP for the same price. However, I think I know the value of money and the poor mans Porsche is an awesome car. Its actually the cheapest porsche to maintain, its an excellent handling car around town (don't need 333 HP in town anyways) and its a Porsche!

You know what the best thing is? Knowing that I paid less than what I would have paid for a new Civic SI today and that my friend paid 98K+ for it new in 97. In 97 this was THE best car of the year and it still is a phenomenal car today.

You're over a year late buds, and how can you follow R1ckstas flamewar when it ended over a year ago and he's now Boostaholic who had way more zany 'flamewars'

I hope you figure out a way to drive your new boxster back to china.

Jomo 09-04-2006 01:10 PM

Congrats on reviving a thread that's OVER one year old. Way to "follow" and keep with the times.

angman2 09-04-2006 01:26 PM

1990TSI you prove my point exactly. What's with the immature and stereotypical "drive your new boxster back to china" comment? That is totally uncalled for and just shows how immature some posters are on these forums.

Jomo, I may be late with a reply to the thread but my comments are still valid today as they were a year ago.

No they're not! This is fightclub you tool. no ones comments are valid in here, especially not yours.

A suggestion, go profess your love for R1cksta in VLS. btw his name is Boostaholic now and I'm sure he'd love to hear from ya ;)

i know that when i got my car i had to drop alot of money on it, out of my own poccket. so if ur parents feel like pissing thier money on u thats fine. It doesnt mean that they "love u" they could jus have so much cash that they dont know wat to do w/ it all. i wish i was a rich ass kid cuz then i could get my parents to buy me everything. But unfortunatly i live on my own, and i have to pay my rent and half of my mothers rent b/c where jus so Fu#$% poor. SO im not sympathizing w/ some SOB whose parents teach you that if u want it u can have it. I had to work damn hard jus to get my crap ass car, and i had to slave to get it kitted out; i had to learn how money will affect ur life, and how spending realy f*** shit up.

So if u do drive a nice car bought by ur parents hard work u better be kissing some serious ass, kuz i cant stand SOBs who get givin shit on a platter...

rogeristheman 09-04-2006 07:08 PM
