Very nice! You might want to level out the horizon on this one though, it's only off by a little bit but it's enough to give it a kind of uncomfortable feel.

how do you guys focus on sport shots, just set it to Ai Servo and hope for the best? Or have them do it once, focus, then switch it to manual focus (so it doesn't change) and then have them do it again?

ai servo and follow them from the drop in. :)

damn, what mountain is that? look at that pow. : o impossible, i thought it was all icy this week =(

I usually use Ai servo and the high speed shutter. Improve the chances of getting something useable, and since it takes a while to reset for the shot, you don't have endless chances.

That second shot was actually manually focused, an old pentax lens mounted on my 30D. I just tried to follow him the whole way down the line, did better than I thought I would have =)

Kwazy - thats seymour last sunday

What really impresses me is the exposure - it's really tricky to get it right with all the bright snow and not end up with either the snow washed out, or the detail gone dark in everything else. Are you setting manual exposure, or using AE with exposure compensation?

Nevermind... Firefox Exif Viewer plugin FTW :)

Ha ha, can only tell you so much when the lens has no electronics =)

Lens length = 135mm (x1.6)
Aperature = 5.6 (I think, can't quite remember)

Senna4ever 01-26-2008 03:56 PM

That's a sweet lens.

Soundy 01-26-2008 04:00 PM

5.6 sounds reasonable for that lighting. If you go by Sunny-16, ISO 160 would call for 1/160 at f/16... f/5.6 is 3 stops down from that... 1/1250 is almost exactly 3 stops faster (1/1280 would be 3 stops).

Er... is 135 the actual focal length, or the "equivalent" for 1.6x?

Fack, this equivalent stuff annoys me... focal length is focal length.

77civic1200 01-26-2008 04:04 PM

Oh, and I have found that I normally use -2/3 compensation, and it looks good on the camera, but always to dark on the computer. So I have been trying to get away from that lately, hence the fairly neutral settings.

77civic1200 01-26-2008 04:06 PM

ha ha, its a pentax super takumar 135/3.5

Senna4ever 01-26-2008 04:07 PM

He has the Pentax M42 135mm f3.5 lens, so about 200mm equivalent.

77civic1200 01-26-2008 04:08 PM

beat you =P
