Cool.

BTW: I'm having a hard time identifying the parallel between the poem and the ice angels. What is the unifying theme?

Wife and I went for a walk up by Pitt Lake today... she's just learning to use the Fuji SLR-style P&S camera my brother gave her. Here are a few of my shots... quick'n'dirty adjustments in Picasa :)

Lol, ok that was a funny transition, from the intelligent conversation between Dennis and Salar, to a cat in a beer box =) amusing

[azn angel] 01-14-2007 04:51 PM

self mutilation has very little to do with death, the same goes for ice. self-mutilation is a form of abuse, and not suicide (death)

plethora u4ria
death of the writers sole.
death of the tree.

Salar
the "demise" of ice is more of a transition from one element to another, and, again, not death
the tree doesnt die

plethora u4ria
angels are dead souls

Salar
angels are freed souls

» dead soul is an oxymoron

plethora u4ria
demise is death, how is that transformation?

Salar
demise isnt always death; demise could also mean the termination of a certain state/activity, and the transfer to another

plethora u4ria
aka, the death of a state.

Salar
hence, by stretching that definition, you could use it to describe the transformation of ice into water, but still not the death of the ice

» a state of ice doesnt die, it transforms

plethora u4ria
in addition, you would need to read the rest of the poem to have more context. just that excerpt doesnt do it justice or context.

Salar
» that's why i asked for more

plethora u4ria
it'll be a book in the end

Salar
but that image, in its current format, is incomplete

plethora u4ria
i agree.

u have said, the ice doesn't die, but it transforms states.

the same can be said about life. with the confiscation of love, one changes (transforms). However many who have gone through the trauma, believe they "die" or at east a part of them dies.

I'll be back tonight.

You have to separate logic and emotion in that context.

While emotionally you may feel as if a part of you has died, logically, nothing has changed.

The elements (2 hydrogen + 1oxygen) stay the same. The physical state of the molecules change. ;)

why? this piece of writing is an art.

you are arguing that the act of the water freezing as a scientific process, where in this context it is an emotional analogy; logic and science are irrelevant to explain this. The literature is not meant to be reflective of the scientific transformation of water to ice.

The act of self-mutilation refers to the water allowing itself to freeze. In this context, the state of freezing is synonymous with death, or it's demise.

Back to the subject because you guys absolutely bore me with complicated English.

d3vI4nt: Pussy and Beer!! I love it!

Soundy: CPL at it's best, nice shots!

down_hill_dog: First one is nice, second doesn't have a purpose but nice colours non the less, third has to much sky and the WB is off

Soundy 01-14-2007 11:46 PM

CPL FTW!

As for dhd's third shot, I know it looks kinda warm, but that's not unusual light for near-sunset, especially in the interior where you don't have all the air pollution. I don't think the WB is off much, if at all.
