No, I mean did he fade those in himself from raws or were they pre-faded?

Both great shots!

First one is a little crooked - not much, it looks more slanted than it is because of an optical illusion, but the horizon doesn't line up with the edge of the window.

Second one would be killer in straight B&W with a little deeper contrast.

Thanks for the suggestions! I really appreciate it. The first one is kind of an optical illusion, because of the way the the horizon on the left side dives into the shadow. Believe it or not, the photo is actually slanted to the right, not the left. I straightened it a bit, but if i was to make it level, it looks funny because it looks like its on an angle to the right due to the illusion.

Heres the b&w of that shot. Thanks

I'm kinda proud of the last picture, the shadow is so dark -- looks like photoshop almost.

Thanks. Had to go REALLY wide. I blocked the sun out with a 60" Umbrella attached to vivitar so I had to get them packed in tight to get enough light on them. Also because we were in a SUPER busy area to remove as much distraction I had to shoot close and wide.

My lesser of 2 evils was less distraction but more distortion.

Yeah, I can tell it's slanted to the right :) It becomes more noticeable if you scroll down so the horizon is close to the top of the browser window. But I tend to really notice when a horizon is off, because I'm EXTRA-straight ;)

That's a lot better (IMHO at least). Still needs a bit more contrast in the logs, I think (although this laptop's screen isn't the most accurate, especially off-axis), but the problem is, the bird is SO much darker, it makes it tricky to darken anything else without turning it into a featureless blob.

Edit: that first one would look cool in B&W too, although the colors in it are amazing...

LoWeR-CaSe-VoWeLS 08-08-2008 04:25 PM

can someone suggest an alternative to lightroom?

it keeps crashing when the import batch is too large (1000 pictures)

ColinK 08-08-2008 04:29 PM

make the import batch a reasonable size? what are you trying to do anyways?

Soundy 08-08-2008 11:40 PM

I imported about 35,000 pictures into Lightroom in one shot when I first installed it. Took about 13 hours to complete, but it didn't crash.

yeah 1000 pictures isn't that much, it shouldn't be crashing

hmmm---- i'll investgate further, i'm using lightroom 1.4

is lightroom really the best? and development tips?

i might just figure out a system for manual imports and import from disk into lightroom.

This popped up across the street from my house. Unfortunately the stupid power lines were in the way and I'm too lazy to try to photoshop them out :p
