Eddie Van Halen once talked about how birds on a set of power lines could be the inspiration for a musical riff.

heres a pic of the family dog,
I had to trick him to get this shot and I did it with the cam hanging from my neck, I had the lens right in his face and kept him looking up at me.

Did RS or flickr change something? my photo isn't the same size on here? and now it seems to be a link to the original size on flickr? is RS trying to save space?

Slo40 10-20-2009 11:46 AM

It doesn't say it, but if you click on the image its shows it in what I assume to be full size in a new tab.

niforpix 10-20-2009 04:57 PM

RS scales photos automatically.

77civic1200 10-20-2009 07:54 PM

Is there any way we can ask them to NOT do that in the photo section? thats pretty silly, we already do a good job of managing the large photo problem. The size of these are just pointless.

just click on the ones you like, and you get them fullsize in a new tab. it isn't hard, and with the number of hits some of these threads get it saves time/power/money.

I'm not an expert on webpages/bandwith at all, far from it, but wouldn't it make more sense to say get rid of the first 200 pages of this thread to save space? would that give us some more room to post real photos instead of tiny thumbnails?

underscore 10-20-2009 08:20 PM

I believe it's just the text link to the image until someone actually opens up that page.

Hey man, not to like correct you, but, unfortunately it actually doesn't even save any time/power/money :(

That's because the picture itself is still the save size and still all has to be loaded. It just scales it (not an actual resize) so that when people post HUGE images, they still fit on a normal screen and dont throw the whole thread page out of wack.

If you right click on any of these images (with firefox anyways) and select properties, you'll see the actual real size of the image, and the size that it scaled (shrunk) it down to.

It also doesn't make a spec of difference to RS's storage space, since the images aren't stored on RS's server - ALL of them are hosted elsewhere and the forum simply links to them. When you view the pic, your browser is pulling it directly from wherever it's hosted.

Some photos from a family day of photography at a school in Richmond. For some more photos check out the blog entry at:

It's been a long time since I've been back on here. Hopefully I'll get to post some more. This summer has been busy for me!

Nice photo. Too bad it will go unappreciated because of the size. I'm sure if it was bigger it would be more impressive.
