My dentist has a TV in the room so I was changing channels when he was going for it. I told him to just yank so when he did, it hurt like a motherfucker.

I was still holding the remote...which I crushed into little tiny plastic and circuit board bits.

Damn, I was in Grade 1 when I had my first molar pulled by the dentist. She didn't want to inject any anesthesia since I was 5 years old. Ouch!

I had all of my Wisdom teeth out in January.

Technically, my Wisdom teeth were all perfectly in line with the rest of my teeth. I got pretty lucky when I was born and got PERFECT teeth top and bottom.... however, because the Wisdom teeth were so far back in my mouth, flossing, etc., became pretty difficult and by University the Wisdom teeth became cavities (my first ones... booo)... and the dentist suggested I just get them pulled and I just kept putting it off. I went for a dental checkup and one of my normal teeth beside a wisdom tooth had began to rott as a result of its location to one of the wisdom teeth so it became a cavity too. Anyway, the dentist said there no amount of cleaning, flossing, etc., was going to prevent that from happening again..... unless the Wisdom teeth came out.

So in January I had my wisdom teeth out and I got lucky again. Because of their placement and because they weren't anywhere near any nerves they came out in an instance and I was eating nachos for dinner and back at work the next morning at 6AM without any problems. I am probably in the minority.

So I'm deciding to have braces done within 6 months time. I have gotten my wisdoms taken out but now I would need to take out another 4 premolars to create space for braces.

How much easier is the premolar extraction process? is it alot less painful?
would you recommend just doing it with local anaesthetics or put to sleep?

I had my wisdoms done with local Aneasthetics and I certainly felt the most pain from the impacted ones. The ones up top were less painful as they were grown out.

the feeling of having my teeth taking out just creeps me out damnit.......

Anybody want to share there experience?

Never had 'em pulled out. In fact, never even had a cavity or retainer/braces. Just go to get my teeth cleaned maybe once every 5 years, and each time they just tell me to drink less tea as they leave stains. Maybe I'll go for a cleaning this year

sorry to resurrect this from the dead but i really didnt want to make a new thread. so im looking to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken with local anesthetic (the cheapest one). the dental surgeon quoted 1200. are you kidding me? 300 a tooth? is this right? or do any of you guys know a cheaper place? i know dentists are like mechanics and all of them have different rates. anyone can shed some light?

That sounds about right. I think IV (going under) costs more.

I have one upper left wisdom tooth which is fully erupted but has minor decay that needs to be knocked out and my dentist quoted me about $300 for basically a 5 min job. Actually the dentist said it'll take him about a minute to knock it out, lol.

300 is considered a decent price trust me (especially if you're getting it done at oral surgeon's office and not general dentist's)...at least insurance covers it if you're a student/working with benefits
if you ever need implants when you're middle-aged/senior they go for $5k a pop not including the diagnostic tools (CT scan) and possible bone grafts.

if you cant afford it you can always get it done by students at UBC at reduced rates but its a lengthy process and there's probably wait time. PM me if you want info on other low-cost clinics.

I'm getting mine out at an oral surgeon this week. It's gonna run me just over $1600. My insurance coverage doesn't cover much of this, if any

But there is no way I'm letting a regular dentist do this procedure. I'll gladly pay the extra money, even if it's not covered. Most of the horror stories I've heard, are from people letting their dentist do the work. Most positive stories/quicker healing times seem to come from people who went to the specialist. Hope it's worth it!

This sounds about right. I paid quite a. Bit less though. My dentist had diff rates for different levels of difficulties in removal so I guess it depends on your mouth, I also had some coverage from company benefits so it wasn't too bad. I had local anesthesia and it was completely painless aside from the needles, especially the ones that go up, omfg I hate those. I had non dissolving stitches and removing those were quite uncomfortable as well. If I were and you can bare the thought of your teeth being ripped out then get local. My friends who got the IV were fucked up like 2 days, I drove home after my procedure

Depends on how it's done...

I went to a surgeon to get mine done instead of a dentist. 2 of my wisdom teeth were embedded in the gum while 2 were out already. Total cost came to around 2k (with IV sedation).

Pretty much not able to eat anything other than jello and cold congee and lost like 5lb in body weight.

And yes, I wouldn't want a regular dentist to do this procedure.

Yup, use a specialist for complex removals. If your wisdom tooth is already erupted and there's no risk of nerve damage get your dentist to do it.
