Anyone following Baselworld 2018? I am totally smitten by the Zenith Defy Classic 41mm (closed blue dial version). https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/ze...ic-introducing Zenith has always been one of my top 3 favourite brands. But recently they have been doing too much Hublot-esque, oversized, blingy watches. This Defy Classic however, is something I can see myself wearing! (Wish it was 38-40mm though). |
Not digging the Defy. If you compare it to the TAG Heuer Carrera, the markers look the same. And the italicised "DEFY" looks like the italicised font found on the Carreras. |
Yeah... never really liked the index and hands (same ones on the El Primeros), and the DEFY text is a bit too large. But I do appreciate the dial being overall clean and clear of "Automatic" etc. (That is a huge pet peeve of mine. I don't need the dial to tell me it's an automatic, or how water-resistant it is). One of the problems with JCB taking over is that all 3 LVMH brands have bled into eachother, so similarities are unfortunately unavoidable. But like I said, this one really has me smitten for some reason :P |

Some may disagree, but I feel that JVB = Not a good thing for LVMH :okay: |

I actually agree with you. Aside from him being so passionate and fun to watch in interviews, his tastes are the complete opposite of what I usually like. Oversized watches, skeleton dials, flashy, etc. I like my watches more simple. What's weird is that he himself collects dressy pateks... so not sure why he insists on creating monstrosity of watches :[ The Zenith Defy Classic surprised me because it stood out as the most "Zenith" out of all of the new watches being released. |
It’s because he knows that that is what your regular consumer likes and that will make money. I look at the new Hublot releases and while I wouldn’t wear them myself, I respect the engineering and attention to detail. |
I think you contradicted yourself. Regular consumers don't aim for Hublot or Zenith; Such marques are geared more towards watch nerds, or men in their 40s+ who have more money than they can handle. JVB will always try to chase after AP's Royal Oak, but you can never replicate a spectacle of engineering and precision. |
Not to be THAT guy, but isn't it JCB? Jean Claude Biver. Anywho, I'm still fiddling with the idea of getting the Defy Classic when it releases, and read that they are going to remove the DEFY text on the dial. I both love and hate that idea for some reason. The Defy text definitely is poorly done in its current form, but also feel the dial might be too empty without some sort of flavor text on the bottom. While at the same time, I LOVE and appreciate watches that have as little text as possible (JLC Master Control Date is a great example of a clean dial). I'm not a big Rolex and Tudor fan, but the Black Bay 58 seems like an amazing watch :O |
Overdue pic of the Orient Polaris GMT! https://i.imgur.com/kshhABO.jpg ..and my very humble collection. https://i.imgur.com/a3niRGM.jpg |

I'm not as baller as you guys, so take at least one decimal place off the watch budget... But for affordable watches, I've just picked up at Roue Watch CHR. They're classic motorsport inspired watches. https://rouewatch.com/wp-content/upl...-CHR-Model.jpg https://rouewatch.com/shop/chr/ *Full disclosure, they are now sponsoring Classic Car Adventures |

Ohhh congrats! I'm going to be buying a Hesalite Speedy at the end of this year (for my 30th birthday). I already bought a OEM sapphire caseback to do a swap some time in the future (won't do it immediately). |

wow. what a genius idea! I originally wanted the hesalite for 2 reasons: closer to history and more hands on involvement polishing it. But the closed back was the deal breaker. super genius idea you got there! |
Finally ended up getting a BLNR today! Can't wait! |
