FYI, Camtex has the worse customer service that I've ever experienced in my life. Took them 3 weeks to tell me that my flash need more time to get fixed.

Only Canon Professionals can fix IS lenses. Other companies won't touch them.

Damn...Fotronic was a good shop.

They were brutally honest with me when I wanted a repair on my old 300D...."I could charge you $600 for the repair, but I don't think you would want to do that since buying a new one would be better."

I brought my camera into them for warranty service as my dealer said they were an authorized repair shop for Canon. The man at the font desk was quite rude apon drop off. When I received my camera back from them things were not fixed and the sensor and pentaprism came back filthy, calling them on the phone resulted in them dodging answering questions and putting me on hold or hanging up. I called Canon and they stated that this wasn't the first report they have had about this company and they are only an authorized repair facility for point and shoot cameras.

Edited spelling pentaprism

Anyone have any more reviews of Vancam?

I'm getting some touchy warranty work done to my SD800IS and i don't want anyone screwing around.

It's got a "hot pixel" that's white and it's annoying, because it can even be seen in pictures that are sized 30% down.

Thanks for any help or recommendations i can get.

I was told by Canon rep this:

Quote:
Because the CCD has millions of photocells (photosites), there is no way to physically ensure that they are all at the same sensitivity to light. The “hot pixel” phenomenon usually occurs at long shutter speeds, when the CCD is exposed longer – causing photosites that are more sensitive to light to appear “whiteish”. They may sometimes be different colors, but are typically “whitish” to the naked eye. This phenomenon is normal and does not constitute a hardware issue with your camera. If you wish you may consider using an image editing application to touch up images that contain hot pixels. Warranty work is performed if one of the following conditions are met:- 4 hot pixels appear in total (anywhere)- 1 hot pixel appears in center 70% of the screen In your case the hot pixel appears at 1680x980 which would be considered 70% of the center screen. As such the camera must be forwarded to a authorized service facility.
and to go to

this is a VERY common problem. It happens with sony, and nikon as well. the main problem is which technician you get as some are better then others. However if its a DSLR that is still dirty when it comes back, I get to be the one to clean it. fotronics was an excellent repair shop sorry to see them go. I would ship my products to canon tho, if i was gonna repair it. But then thats why I have fuji and pentax. quick turn around times

the better repair places tend to be fuji and canon, and pentax (however I have had warrenty issues with them on some things, as well as sony. ). I have had nothing but great results from them. They make my customer happy and then I can be happy haha.

i have been to van cam but NOT for a warranty service.
i've been there twice taking back my canon. yeah they are typical expensive place to get it repaired. expensive as in parts was like 5 dollars, but labor was like 80 bucks. I can't blame them. I'm paying them for their skills.

the guy there is a bit rule, but if you act gay enough he'll treat you really nice.

Not too many problems with them, i like them because they were open on saturdays.

So it's been 4 days... (4 business days)

and my SD800IS is still in the shop

What does it mean when they say "they're waiting for a "program" from canon"

don't get me wrong, i want them to take their time, to get it done right... but i'm dying without a camera to use.. and my cell just sucks.

I asked the dood to explain what this would have to do with a hot pixel.... thought sth like CMOS problem.. so it just has to get changed or sth...

someone camera inclined know?

They're probably waiting for parts from Canon to replace the sensor I'm guessing? This under warranty or are you paying for it to be done?

under warranty

and they've been fucking me over every 3 "business" days.

I've written a formal complaint to canon canada on friday, only not to receieve an e-mail this morning. What bs...

They keep bsing me and go "it'll be done in another 3 days, it'll be done in another 3 days"

They have their "program" now, and they said "we have a lot of cameras to fix"

Give me an accurate estimate for date, or don't call yourself representatives of canon canada.
