that was my first DSLR. lined up at FS many years ago to grab it for $399 haha. except for video, i don't see what you can't possible learn from using the 350D. you'll know exactly what you want or need once you learn more about it. try putting the magic lantern firmware on when you get bored of it.

Currently using a Nikon D80 and thinking of getting a D7000, any thoughts on whether the D7000 is worth it? I've heard of the focusing issue, it is kinda drawing me back from getting one.

Oh man i went through the whole Focusing Issue ordeal with the D7000.. Returned my first copy cause i suspected something was wrong but the second was perfect. Now that i think about it there was nothing wrong with the first one lol. I just like you read all the horror stories about this shit but in the end it turned out to be nothing. If you do suspect something is not right then just exchange it for another one and do your homework before you buy.

Overall, Great Camera and definitely an upgrade from a D80. I say go for it, you wont be disappointed.

Looking to buy a tripod with quick release feature. no need for anything fancy, or too expensive. just something to get the job done. mainly using it for longer exposures. and video recording. any suggestions? would you guys suggest the cheap ones on ebay?

I thought about getting the D300s, but the D7000 is cheaper and offers the features that I need, particularly the high ISO performance. As for the sharpness and focusing issue, I won't know until I purchase one and use it =P.

Typically I don't buy stuff at Bestbuy, but I think they have some copies there as I have a $100 gift card I need to spend. Otherwise, I'll go to Kerrisdale/Broadyway Camera to get one.

I think Nikon has fixed the back/front focusing issue with the D7000. I've only seen it with the first few shipments of D7000 bodies. I've never had a complaint about it for the past year or so.

Alright originally I was plannin on learning photography on my Canon rebel xt but since my brother decides to throw it across the room it's broken now. So I'm in the market for a good starter DSLR.

I was thinking of getting a canon t3 but also wanna get opinion on good starter cameras from Nikkon

WTF did he do that for??? I think the Nikon D5100 is a great starter camera, but there are some good rebates to be had on Canon cameras now.

It was actually that cheap during December at all USA's Target's.

But the price never went back down that low again. Should have jumped on it

if the d5100 shares a similar sensor as the d7000, i don't see how t3i> all others listed. the t2i, 7d, t3i share similar sensors. if the d7000 came out around the same time the t2i did, i would've jumped ship. none of the camera choices would break an image tho.

Nikon D5100, or Canon T2i. The T3i is basically a T2i with a swivel screen thing. If you want more differences between the two google the differences. Basically the same.

Both great starter cameras.

I would give the edge to the Nikon, as the Nikon kit lenses seem to be sharper, however, if you buy the Canon 15-85 along with the T3i, then it's game over. The Canon wins.

Need some advice, looking for a compact camera. Just something small that you can just throw in your bag and go. Price around $3xxish. Old point-n-shoot canon's motor fried or something so the lens wont come out. Thanks!

edit: will be buying from local/bigbox stores, so no time to wait for shipping.

canon s95/s100 or panasonic lx5. panasonic DMC-TZ30 if you can find one. use photoprice.ca as above or shopbot.ca/pricebat.ca to compare prices.

the olympus epl1 is 149US and the ep2 is 229US (body only). so tempting to grab one and the 20 1.7 to replace my s95.

Looking for opinions on whether the upgrade from the 50D to the 7D is worth the money.

Adorama is selling the 7D for $1199 (USD) which seems to be a great price. Trying to justify the upgrade. I've always wanted the option of video (so I've been looking at the 60D or the 7D) but the reviews I've read seem to indicate that video isn't that great. There's the better AF and metering and weather sealed.

I can't really say I've outgrown the 50D (I still have a lot I can learn with it) but it's tough to pass on a good deal. (could probably sell the 50D for around $500ish and that means the net cost would be $700 for the upgrade). Has anyone gone down the same path and can comment whether the upgrade seemed like it was worth it to them?

My current lens lineup is mostly EF-S lenses (17-55, 10-22) and a single EF lens (70-200F4 IS) so I prefer not to have to go FF if someone is looking to suggest FF.

There's also double rebates on lenses if anyone is interested in going in on a lens when (or if) I buy the body: link
