I should mention its free lol. Didn't wanna make a new thread for this.

I need suggestions as to what camera would be a nice compact and small camera that I can take with me around campus.

I've been looking into a micro 4/3 camera something like the GF2 or the NEX-5 or a camera like the G12 or S95. And I'll probably have just a prime or two for each camera.

I have a D90 right now but it's a little bit too big and I don't want to be carrying it with me all the time. I just need a camera that's there for taking pictures around campus. I'd usually be carrying it with me all the time in my bag.

Other than the colour, there doesn't appear to be any difference... the model numbers are the same. And the silver model comes packaged with a case.

NEX absolutely annihilates micro 4/3 in terms of picture quality IMO, I have the nex-3 and e-pl1, I pretty much shoot exclusively with leica m mount voigtlanders but use the kit lens once or twice.

The sony is a pain if you are the kind that likes to use manual settings though, even changing the ISO takes a while... and also the olympus feels better in the hand and has a few more useful buttons that make it easier to use.

But honestly I wouldn't go back to micro 4/3, the e-pl1 I got 4 months ago and the nex 1.5 months ago, the noise performance at 1600 with the sony is better than the epl1 at 800 if that says anything. I haven't tried the newer ep3/gf3, but considering how much the NEX blew my EPL1 away I doubt they hold a candle to it either.

Honestly I'd sell my 7D if the NEX was faster at processing and had a few more dials

The Olympus EP cameras are quite awful. The Panasonic GH2 is almost as good as a Canon 7D in terms of noise (when shooting RAW)...and the GH2's video capabilities far exceed anything Canikon have except for shallow DoF.

I'm willing to bet the GH2 is going to be close if not cleaner than the NEX when shot at high ISO.

hey, my gf wants a new camera, one with a swivel screen so she can see herself while recording, she is gonna do that youtube stuff for make up, so she needs one that can handle close ups and focus pretty good, also to record in at least 720p, any suggestions?

she is more interested in a point and shoot, but also compact, any suggestions?

if it wasn't for her needing something compact i would have suggested the canon g12 or the sx30

I think Nikon is having a press conference on August 26 about new products.

Canon 60D or Nikon D5100.

The video quality is worth it, plus they can take 1080p videos.

^^As for cameras with the swivel and recording: the SX30 and G12 are the two cameras that come to mind. They're compact cameras though and not P&S
Edit: lol I should read better -.- you can try the Samsung ST700 it has the front facing LCD but not the swivel

Seems like the NEX5 should be the camera I should look into to getting! Although I do like the shape and feel of the GF2 alittle bit better than the NEX5. I'll have to play around with them a lot more the next time I get the chance at work.

Are the settings easy to change on the GF2? I haven't actually seen the menu since the best buy in Burnaby has a nonpowered model on display.

Samsung EX-1. I bought one for the wife and she likes using it. Lens cap is a bit of a chore and processing speed is average. However, the lens is fast and sharp and the menu system is easy to use.

I would recommend the Panasonic GH2. Very good image quality and the video quality kicks ass.

although as a dslr like camera the gh2 can be considered small, for a girl it might still be too big. really good choice for video though. the g3 with the same sensor still packs it all in a smaller grip/package if you wanna check out panasonic video quality.

Im also looking at the NEX-5, its between that or the D3100.

NEX-5 for the size, but the D3100 for the true feel of a DSLR

Cant Decide HELP
