Oh, gotcha. Makes sense. I was kinda wondering how if they got bumped into the dock that they would manage to flip (if other boat was on one side and pontoon was on the other). I was talking to one of the guys from Draggin Dragons when they got back to shore and he just mentioned their boat got bumped into the pontoon by the other boat). They took their drummer/caller for a dip afterwards after their last race because he apparently had the foresight to jump onto the pontoon before it flipped and didn't get wet. :D

I didn't see it happen, but just saw all the WE volunteers go grab their cameras and looked up to see a boat upside down.

Indeed, their drummer had the sense to keep his mask and cap dry. I missed the actual capsize myself as well. One second I see them fighting for room, looked away, and looked back to see the drummer posing on the pontoon while his team swam. It was quite convenient, since it made capsizing recovery, bailing the boat out, and getting back on a hell lot easier than being in the middle of the lake.

Those teams were formed by Magnum on a strictly fun basis. This was for the March Madness OC6 race a couple weeks after we started going on OC6, and we went out on them another 5-6 times after that. But I believe we'll be practicing on OC6's again soon so i am looking forward to that :D

This is an awesome pic of your team's last race

No, I don't think so. You just need to make sure that you have OC6's available.

If I recall correctly, you just have to be a member of FCRCC (the club not the team), and have booked the sessions in advance.

I'm tempted to go to Abbotsford to check out a Kialoa or ZRE for OC since so many ppl recommend Kialoa.

Don't you know that they drink while paddling most times? that's why that move is practiced religiously, its the single most important part of their race strategy, which is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Your team would do well to follow that route. I know Magnum has trouble in that area sometimes...just last practice, instead of the bottle being passed, it was corn! :haha::haha: (inside joke)

Our steers just recently decided to go for Kialoa instead and might i say it looks pretty :D

I'm finally back in FC, so now I can actually see who I'm talking to (Illuminate) lol. A few of us are going to OC tomm (fri) at 10 am, if anyone wants to join?

I had the pleasure of a royal dunkage my first day back to practice, from 6-8 big guys out of the alder bay dock once we were done practice. Utilized my MMA style gorilla hug onto our captain for a good minute to take him with me but got my limbs pried away, which then led to flailing away like a salmon out of water wildly grabbing at at least 2-3 guy's feet before i was overpowered, swung like a rag doll 3 times and flung to the icy cold and unreasonably dirty false creek waters. The moral to this story is to be wary when your captain says to you 'group hug' while a bunch of other guys converge from behind you...lesson learned LOL

Yep, lack of water and exposure to sun is killer on race day. Nalgene FTW! :D

wow, that is cheap..hope its in good condition still..you better get it b4 its snatched up.

We're changing it up on Sunday, not the usual db practice anymore, its going to be OC1 at 10:15 and OC6 at 12. Regardless, we would still see your shirtless self :haha:

LOL, its not that bad actually...we tend to dunk on false creek waters, call it a tradition or what not. Denis has been dunked countless times there, I was dunked on my bday and somehow I'm dunked on my gf's bday too (got pulled in)...Its all good fun

Started to take physio 3x a week now. Hopefully I'll be back paddling shortly after Harrison. I'm definitely sitting it out unless some miracles (or steroid) happen.

RacePace 07-12-2009 06:30 AM

that sucks, what kind of injury is it?

RAYClovis 07-12-2009 11:27 PM

It's a back to leg wide injury, affects my left side. (My racing side.)

RacePace 07-13-2009 07:44 AM

could be a spinal problem if it goes down that far, have you seen a doctor or went straight to physio?

RAYClovis 07-13-2009 05:31 PM

Went straight to physio.

RacePace 07-14-2009 11:31 AM

Does it feel like a muscle problem or joint problem?

Noticed WW got first in the VOS short course race (though with a Men's vs Mixed and women's teams). I need to try that or March madness next year

It's mostly muscle, fortunately. Also, I'd love to participate in more OC6 and OC1 events myself as well, just for the sake of paddling. :)

TracerFX 07-15-2009 09:45 AM

feel too crowded with all the Magnums here? :haha:

RacePace 07-15-2009 10:00 AM

not really, just the more the merrier. though I'd like to see ppl from a wider range of teams, and with old stories to tell :)

RAYClovis 07-15-2009 05:04 PM

I think by now we have enough to fill a 10-person dragonboat that they're apparently getting next year. :lol
