I noticed that the ribs look different compared to what pictures from the original first post.

I think that may have just been a problem with the white balance in the picture.

Enough geek talk. I've got an itch to get some BBQ! I definitely need to head out there an try it out. I haven't been too impressed with Memphis Blues on Broadway, and I've been spoiled by the good BBQ they have out in Colorado.

I was never a fan of Memphis Blues but speaking of that place. They are opening another location a 5 minute drive from Boonies new location on Fraser Hwy near the Price Smart. There is also a Vera's burgers going in the same parking lot. It's nice to finally have some choices out in the boonies. :)

^I've never been to Boonies but I wouldn't necessarily consider Memphis Blues an alternative, lol. That place is junk, people who ride MB's cock are losers who can't taste shit from piss.

I just went to Boonies new location and let me tell you..I was quite disappointed since I went to his old location(Curling rink) about 4x and each time has been quite good and their was pretty much no complains from me, so after waiting a month after their opening, I decided to head down to their new location. I ordered the Full-Rack ribs and Pulled Pork sandwich with Macaroni and Cheese and Seasoned fries.

First with the pulled pork, this sandwich was pretty good, not as good as before but it hit the spot perfectly, a little too saucy but that's just my opinion. The seasoned fries was good as well. Onto the bad, the BBQ sauce for the ribs was weird tasting, it didn't taste like their normal BBQ sauce and it had a weird after-taste. The meat inside was bland and tasteless as well. The up side of the ribs was that, the meat was really tender and definitely fall-off the bones.

8/10 for Pulled Pork
3/10 for Ribs

Ouch.

Should e-mail Boonie. He takes criticism and feedback very well.

Anyone join the facebook group and just got the message that Boonies is CLOSED?

For anyone not in the group:

Our customers came from all over the lower mainland and our family worked hard to create a welcoming place with great food, great music and a family atmosphere. It is with great sadness that we announce we have ceased operations as of Wednesday, October 20th, ,2010.

Opening a restaurant and serving his granny’s recipes had always been a dream of Boonie’s. In 2008 he was offered a contract to run the concession and catering inside the Cloverdale Curling Rink. While there he decided to run it as a small restaurant to see how people liked the food. Running at odd hours and days due to catering requirements for the curling club, Boonie still gathered a great number of loyal followers while operating out of that unlikely location. With the contract coming to an end he decided to start the search for a new location. Finding a location for an independent restaurant in this world of chains proved to be harder than anticipated and we were unable to open again until this year.

We had finally found a location in an area of Langley that we really liked, and it was close to home. Another odd location – inside a hotel – but since we were able to run in the curling rink the location wasn’t a big concern. Unfortunately the hotel owners had building permit issues with the restaurant space and the opening was delayed for about 4 months past the original move in date, putting everything on hold. Since opening in May, Boonie’s Southern Soul has proven to be a popular place with loyal customers, gathering more supporters every day and was even scheduled to be featured on a food network show in early spring.

Unfortunately we have been forced out of our current location. We are reviewing legal options but at this time have no plans to reopen as it is not easy to find another spot. Boonie is still available as a personal chef and caterer however, and welcomes any contact. He can be reached by email at the link below.

Boonie is heartbroken over the closure. We sincerely appreciate your support over these past few years and will miss serving you!
Fuck, and I didn't even get to go and try it!

Next RS mini meet = Catered BBQ? :D

For BBQ, Burgers Etc. >> Memphis
I'm not sure where else in the city I can get decent BBQ.

I was down in the states in last month, and I had WAY better BBQ than both Memphis and Burgers Etc. put together.
A freaking CHAIN restaurant.

So now I'm curious how much better it gets.

Does anyone know if Boonies' meat is smoked, or braised?

Ozzarks is not too far away from either of those. Decent food too.

OriginalJC 10-21-2010 01:45 PM

fack, no more boonies burger?!

q0192837465 10-21-2010 03:21 PM

wow, and I can see they put a lot of efforts into making that new place, with liquor permits & everything. Kinda sad that they'r forced out.

orange7 10-21-2010 09:03 PM

dam.. pretty sure he hasn't made back the money he put into his restaurant.

what a loss.

Liquid_o2 10-22-2010 03:13 PM

His new restaurant was nice... another odd location though, and it seems to have hurt him in the end.

When he was looking for a new place last year, I wondered why he was unable to find a small space in a strip mall somewhere in Surrey/Langley. Commercial vacancy rates are quite high over the past few years, and he could have gotten quite the deal if he played his cards right.

If he leased a place properly in a strip mall, a landlord would be unable to force him out like this in such a quick fashion. I'm not sure what his arrangement with the hotel was, but obviously he did not have the proper clauses in place for his lease and it really screwed him over.

Boonie was a hell of a cook and made good food, but I have to think that his business sense might not have been as good :( I'm really gonna miss his pulled pork sandwiches.

OriginalJC 10-22-2010 03:15 PM

Location was perfect for me. I just moved to Langley, 2 blocks from Boonies :-(

At least I was able to get a few trips in before they closed

Amuse 04-07-2011 09:39 PM

Any news of a reopening anywhere? :(

corollagtSr5 04-08-2011 02:41 AM

I never had a taste of this delicious food ever........
