Review: Boonies BBQ & Soul Food

Food: Self Explanatory

Basically I was craving some BBQ after watching tons of Food Channel so i searched around on DineHere for some when i discovered this place. Its located in a Cloverdale Curling Rink sort of like a concession. They are open Tue-Fri 4PM-9PM, I know weird hours but he has other things he does with his food (catering, ect.). But Enough of me rambling on, heres some pictures (courtesy of BC4x4).

First time I went I got:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2173/...38cd323a_o.jpg

Ribs were awesome, tender, almost fall off the bone(better that way), BBQ sauce was good, Mac n cheese was good, cornbread muffin was awesome. Cost: $11.50

Today I went again I got:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2015/...f4e4f3a6_o.jpg

It was called the Boonie Burger, the burger was pretty much one of the best burgers I've ever had, yes its 2 patties, cheese, Louisiana Hot Links. The seasoned fries were amazing, it literally tasted like ketchup chips when dipped in the ketchup, once again I got a cornbread muffin cause its just awesome. Cost: $8.50

Anyways great place to go, may be a little far for some but its worth it, its so much better than memphis blues imo. He also has specials sometimes, today was a deep fried red mackeral sandwich i believe. Boonie himself is a pretty good guy, we talking with him for a bit. I'll pretty much be a regular customer from now on.

Food: 10/10
Value: 10/10 (compared with what you pay for at red robins or montanas for burgers and ribs)
Atmosphere: 4/10 (hey its in a curling rink)

quasi 05-07-2008 02:02 PM

Nice, like 5 mins from my house I'm so going to try that place.

jlo mein 05-07-2008 05:43 PM

That first pic is one hell of an deal sealer. Can you get a view of the curling rink from the eating area?

EDIT: nm about food questions, just checked out the website menu. BTW it says that half rack of ribs, 2 sides, and cornbread is $13.50, not $11.50?

godwin 05-07-2008 09:28 PM

It takes 15 minutes from the Port Mann bridge to get to the place.

However CALL before you go.. they are not always open at the time they say they would.

fa1civic 05-08-2008 03:45 PM

oh wow i didnt know that theres awesome food in the cloverdale curling rink... in fact i live near there :) thanks for the heads up Laundry!

godwin 05-08-2008 08:48 PM

Went today.. the place is very quiet, the rib is really good.. Boonie is the guy that answers the phone! It is a small operations since he is the only chef, but the food is good.

1 side + rack + cornbread is 11.50

They also do take out. 604 309 3438

They have been open for only 2 or so months.

It is about 10 minutes from Port Mann.

Made it out to Cloverdale today for a visit. I was definitley not disappointed. As stated, it's literally just a rink side concession stand with a few tables, but the food is fantastic.

Picture of the front doors to the curling rink.

The order counter.

Menu.

http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/IMG_5900.jpg

Half rack ribs, mac and cheese, collard greens, and corn bread muffin. The ribs look more appetizing in person, the picture doesn't capture it well.

Also tried a cajun jambalaya on rice, with chicken, hot links, and shrimp. This was a daily special, not on their regular menu. It was quite spicy but very good.

I also had a great sweet potato pie, no picture.

Alphamale 05-10-2008 03:07 AM

^mmmm....I have the munchies right now.

bd0n 05-10-2008 04:24 AM

looks hella appetizing dont care for fall off the bone ribs, but definately looks like worth a try.

orange7 05-10-2008 10:05 AM

too far.. especially with the price of gas.. but the food:value does look promising...

RS meet there??

willystyle 05-12-2008 03:06 PM

I don't mind driving all the way there, but what else is there to do in that area other than Boonie's?

EDIT: jambalaya and ribs look awesome!

Went on the weekend with my gf
paid 20.75 for a large rib dinner (mac + cheese / potato salad) and boonie burger w/ season fries

Pretty damn cheap for the amount of food you get. We couldn't finish everything...the ribs were good but wouldn't say out of the world good...for the price its really good. Mac and Cheese was alright ...cornbread was really good

We both found the Boonie Burger really good! He told us the Louisiana hot links are really shipped up here from the South~ Gives the burger a lot flavor and a nice kick to it.. + the seasoned fries were excellent! super good!

I will def. return to this place even if it is a bit of a drive for me

Agreed, I would also like confirmation you went on a weekend. I was planning on going again this friday, but saturday is better if they are indeed open.

J32A2-S 05-14-2008 12:05 PM

sorry
friday night! haha
once i get off work on friday i consider it a weekend :D

godwin 05-14-2008 03:39 PM

They are open this weekend for Cloverdale Rodeo

As I have mentioned earlier in the thread

CALL AHEAD 604 309 3438

Apparently Boonie has got rid of his catering truck and will do this full time.

murd0c 05-17-2008 12:34 PM

thanks for posting this, It's 5mins from my house and I'm going to check it out for sure. Are hot links a sausage?

jlo mein 05-18-2008 12:52 AM

^yes hot links are a sausage.

Just FYI for everyone that I went to Boonie's again today and he's only making one dish while open for the Cloverdale Rodeo (until end of monday). The only thing you can get is 4 ribs, side of potato salad or rice and beans, and a slice of bread for $8.50. No other sides, no burgers, no pulled pork, no desserts, NO CORNBREAD MUFFIN :( .

If you're going to the Rodeo its still one of the best places in the area to eat at, but just letting everyone know that a lot of his good stuff isn't being made this weekend.

Oh BTW: while the Rodeo is on, you can only get to Boonie's through the street side entrance along 176 St. The curling rink is fenced off from the Rodeo, so you either should go to Boonie's first, or you'll have to exit the Rodeo to go there.
