I'm still newb at the whole car/gas thing.
Can somebody point me to some info these 2 things?
- ethanol
- if there's a difference on how shell, mohawk, chevron, petrocan grade their gas?
Is it all the same?
The only think I found for ethanol was that "Addition of ethanol increases the volatility of gasoline."
Is it just for cleaner burning, shittier performing gas?

Here's some info and background on ethanol and why we started mixing it into our gas. The government decided to have all gas stations put up to 10% ethanol into the gas because they wanted to go "green" ethanol is a cleaner burning gas because it's made from corn. But with that "green" theory in mind, ethanol burns much faster then regular gasoline which means you go back and visit the pumps faster. So who knows if it's actually greener. if you don't like ethanol for any reason (some people think it's not good for seals in the engine) then the only gas station that has no ethanol in their gas is Chevron but only the premium plus gas doesn't have ethanol.
difference between different gas stations are the additives they put into them. Shell started this nitrogen enriched mix which supposedly helps clean your engine. That being said Chevron's "techron" is also suppose to help clean your engine. Who knows which works better or if at all. Mohawk/Husky use to have 89 octane as the lowest octane they carry compared to the 87 you would get everywhere else. But looks like they started to carry the 87 now so really no difference there anymore.
And of course the biggest difference between all these gas stations are what points you like to collect. Airmiles, save on points, BCAA dollar etc.

Shell has no ethanol in the V-Power (91 octane) gas.

Well, I used some 99% rubbing alcohol (ethanol?) and soaked my keyboard keys in it for a few weeks.
The result was a "sheet" of paint/glaze came off my keys, they turned whitish and the surface because more brittle.
Not sure how seals on a car compare, but this doesn't sound like good times |

the other issue about ethanol is what it's made from. sure it's seems all green, you know, what could be better than using corn to power our cars? but there are ethical issues about using a foodstuff (one that could feed people - ie: the malnourished/starving people in the world) as fuel.
