As well, you can redeem points for gift certificates to larger retailers ie: Futureshop/ HBC Stores (Zellers/Bay/Homeoufitters/etc)/SportChek/GolfTown/etc.... 30,000points will get you approx $250 in giftcerts.
There are many other benefits as well, too much to list.
IMO if you spend alot on your Visa, Platinum is the way to go!! | alot as in all at once a lot couple hundred/thousand or constant little amounts - $50 - 80

Sorry my bad,...
It's whatever the amount you "pay off" on your visa each month.
So if I paid $5000 to my visa, I will receive 5000 points. And this is updated once every month.

Do some research before you get a card. I prefer my Mastercard over my Visa b/c of the reward program i have on the M/C. I would shy away from TD Green as you aren't getting anything for your purchases. Earning at least some return is better than no return right?
Also, i always stay away from 1% dividend - they are usually a joke from the return standpoint imo - although i could be wrong. Also, some of the other cards, i.e. CIBC aerogold visa have an annual fee...yea the return is great, but factor in the annual fee and unless you are big spending ($30k+) a year on your card, it is hard to earn >3% return.
Do some research, there are tons of forums on which CC is the best! =)

with avion u can use ur points towards any airline like currency. but with RBC non avion cards u can still use points towards travel but i believe its limited.
the $120 is more than worth it just for the insurances it offers. If u travel alot and put all the charges to ur visa, u'll get:
- rental car collision insurance (so u dont have to purchase the $2x a day LDW rate ontop of ur rental to a max of 48 day rental
- emergency purchase insurance if the airline looses or delays ur baggage and u need to buy living things such as shirts, pants, underwear, toothbrush etc
- airline delay insurance to cover ur hotel stays, other expenses due to a delayed or cancelled flight
- purchase insurance for personal items or family gifts that are damaged, lost, or stolen within 90 days of purchase (my iphone got jacked 1.5 months after i got it and im covered for it)
- accident insurance, if u get hit or some accident happens when ur on the road and u need medical
some other stuff i cant remember.
the only thing that took me a while to consider the Avion plat over the preffered Plat is that the avion doesnt include is out of state/country 31 day medical coverage. with the avion, its an option u can purchase ($130 for 31 days i believe?) but with the preferred platinum its included. im covered for my work trips for medical anyway so i dont really need that option thus ended up goin for the avion.
however i use aeroplan for faster free flights. trip to asia is only 75,000 aeroplan points, its 100,000 rbc points with avion. with both, i get double mileage i fly average 10k miles a month for work so the points do add up |

Can ppl also post any annual fees they have to pay? I've been a long time user of Mastercard, but never had a Visa. Figured I should get one for convenience sake (in case a place doesn't take m/c).
