I think the biggest factor in choosing a card should be whether or not you are paying it off every month. I work as a banker, and I refuse to give my clients a "dividend" card if they aren't paying their full balance off every month... typically the interest rate is higher than the standard card. Also watch out with the aero cards... $120/yr is enough to negate the rewards plan unless you use the card to make a lot of larger purchases, or for day to day stuff... and pay it off every month.
There's tons of options, but for my clients for the past 2 yrs it's either been the classic card with no rewards (hassle free) or else the aerogold if they plan to do the bulk of their purchasing on the visa. Rewards are great, but keep in mind the annual fees, and the slightly higher rates that are typically charged.

Td Gold Visa - 1% cash back
There's an annual fee but I have a Select Service Checking Account which waivers the fee if i have a certain amount in the account.
Personally i think the 1% cash back is alot better then most AeroPoints Plan. As someone stated 30 000 points = 30 000 dollars spent = 250 Dollar credit on travel, but if you had 1% cash back the 30 000 points = 300 dollars cash.

Aero Gold. $120 / yr fee.
I pay it every month 100% no matter what, purchase everything on it rather then use a debit card, as well purchase everything I can for work and use it for business travel. In 2007 I made enough points for pair of airline tickets to most of North America (haven't used it yet). Easily worth the $120 / yr.

I use CIBC Dividend, but they don't always give you 1%. My mom uses CitiBank which is guarantee 1% back for all the spending, so i guess that is a way to go!
sidenote: for ppl into travel, take a look into Amex Sky Blue card, just got mine last week, 1.25 points / $1 spending, not bad

+1
1) interest rates don't matter if you're going to pay it off in full and it's a lot safer and smarter to get in the habit of monitoring your spendings on your CC and being able to pay it off in full or not.
2) pick something that suits your purchasing habits NOT pick something you would like.

yeah watch out for the dividend cards since they tier the % rebate and usually only advertise the TOP tier of rebate level - so it might be .25% on first 2000, then .50% on next 2500, etc. They also put an outright cap on the dividend as well.

Scotiabank Scene Visa
Is it just me, or does Scotiabank doesn't appear as popular as the other banks?
Any major difference b/w Visa and Mastercard?

1) Visa
2) Mastercard
3) American Express
4) Diners club
5) Discover card
4 and 5 are changeable depending on location. I maybe wrong, but just from places i've been too, that's usually the popularity list.
