Have you done any research on who the artists are? I did a quick google and first listing was their FB page. Some VERY good tattoos in the pics, some decent ones, and a few that I didn't like the work. How about you go there, talk to the artists, look at their portfolios, and do your own homework if you're serious about getting ink.

hchang 02-26-2010 10:59 PM

^ A Friend did get his done there, and refered me to an artist named Jay.

Friend's tattoo looks decent... and priced decently. That's why I'm asking if anybody has had any experiences with them.

phantom x 02-27-2010 09:03 PM

first off , never look for pricing when it come to getting a tattoo , "cheap tattoos aren't good and good tattoos aren't cheap".

don't settle for "decent",.. get good work,.. there are alot of shops around with wicked artist,.. if you need help i know of alot of good artists.

down the road when your lookin at your ink and it's still lookin good over the years are you gonna be thinkin about the extra 100 or soo extra bucks you spent on a good artist? ,.... i'm pretty good friends with my tattoo artist and when we hang out with a few of his tattoo artist buddys , they will tell stories about how there doing cover up work on this guy because he went to a shitty artist or a scratcher to save a few bucks and now hes in it tripple the amount it would have cost him by just going to a good tattoo artist in the first place , and not to mention the posablities of getting HEP-B or HIV ect..

hchang 02-27-2010 09:27 PM

^ So I'm asking to see if they're a reputable place.

If nobodys really heard of the place or gotten ink'd there, I for sure wouldn't be going there...

phantom x 02-27-2010 09:49 PM

never heard of them ...

you can't go wrong with SACRED HEART, ADRENALINE, CRAFSTMEN, DUTCHMEN.

what are you lookin to get?

hchang 02-27-2010 10:01 PM

Dutchmen I've heard great reviews about... but also heard theres a wait.
How much are they by the way?

I'm looking to get a quarter length dragon that ends at the short sleeve t-shirt mark, and wraps around by shoulder.
I asked Osmosis, and they quoted roughly $1400-$1500.. sound about right?

phantom x 02-28-2010 09:41 AM

yes thats about right for good work , .. iv had work done at OSMOSIS by TREVOR... really good guy and wicked arist !

My tattoo is being done by Jay at trigger happy, its about 140 an hour. My piece is a half sleeve demon mask with 2 koi's going around it. My friend also got his phoenix there. His work isnt very traditional japanese its a bit more westernized, very similar to the style of jesse at blackwater. And since i was referred by a friend he knocked off about 50 bucks or so on my first session. I would say the koi's look excellent but the demon mask is more westernized than a traditional hannya mask should be (looks much more aggressive than sad) but im still very satisfied. If you're looking to get a dragon, i dont suggest u go to trigger happy, instead go to osmosis and get it done by trevor if you look on his portfolio on the site, he did the dragon on my friend's friend (its the top row picture 5). looks fucking amazing but book it quick cuz it says hes leaving osmosis in may.

Thanks for the insight man.
Yeah my friend got two kois done by Jay at Trigger Happy, it looks pretty good so I took it into consideration.
But if you don't think that he'd do a good dragon then I guess I'd reconsider going somewhere else.
Thanks again dude!

Jay used to work with Jesse at blackwater back when it was still on clark and 12th.
Both very good artist.

Actually yes.
I got this skull from my Grandmother a few years before she died. She ended up dieing at that same lake that she found it at. And moving a number of times in the past few years, it's hard to keep the skull in perfect condition, so I had it put on me so that if something would happen to the skull, I'd still have it.

Who would you guys think have the best japanese traditional tattoo drawing? I just want a quick sketch for now, and plan to get it inked on in about 8-10 months. I am definitely sure of what i want, so anyone got a reference?

SkinnyPupp 03-24-2010 05:16 PM

I don't think anyone in Vancouver does traditional Japanese tattoos. Everyone there does occidental Japanese style, from what I've seen. Although Horiyoshi III's son is in town I believe, so there's your chance. He'll be gone by 8-10 months though.

Hey vansterdam, how long did it take Jesse to do this outline? I'm getting a tattoo of a similar size from Jesse as well in June and hopefully get the outline done on the first session.
