Heads up, anyone who wants to apply to SFU for the fall. Here are the provisional admission cutoffs, in percentages (for direct high school admission), and GPA (for post secondary transfer students with 24 or more credits). Allow for leeway of a few percent or 0.1 GPA in either direction.

Applied Sciences: 83%/2.6
FASS: 80%/2.5
Beedie: 80%/2.5 and Broad Based Admission
FCAT: 80%/2.5
Education: 86%/2.6
Environment: 80%/2.6
Health: 86%/2.6
Science: 86%/2.7

To be honest, I was pretty shocked when I heard these numbers. Right now the admissions page is saying 2.8 for FASS and 3.0 for Science, but they'll go down as more students get admitted.

Broad Based Admission. The cutoff for your top 9 business courses is still going to be around 3.0.

Wow... Why is it that SFU's standards are decreasing while UBC is the complete opposite?

Anyone take BUS 320 with Maureen Fizzell before? Ratings are absolutely horrible... but she's the only choice, and I pretty much need this course to declare lol

Is stacking bus320 + bus360 + elective/381 a really bad idea?

I stacked 303, 343, 336 (tough imo), and 393 together and did fine last semester.

Most of my buddies took a 300 level accounting with her and said she is one of the hardest profs ever. The exams are ridiculous. I took it with Dennis Chung and almost failed that class.

360 + 320 is going to be pretty hard. I (mistakenly) did that during my 3rd year.... the workload in 360 + the huge step up from 251/254 to 320 is going to be hard. For me, the workload in 360 was about the same as 336 + 303 + 343 combined.

Shauna is a biased prof, who has inconsistent marking, but if you work really hard in her class and attend office hours, there shouldn't be any reason that you do poorly. Group member of mine started off with an F (first few assignments were half F, half D) and he attended every single office hour to get help and finished with a B- (we did do really good on our group assignment/report). Unless she changed it... there will be 1 assignment not for marks that determines which group you are put in.... better do a kickass job for that assignment and make sure you do not have grammar mistakes. She groups people based on english proficiency level (and # of grammar/spelling mistakes) as well as similar interests.

Can't say anything about Christian other than the fact that I heard he is relatively easy.

If anyone is getting or has graduated with a CS degree from SFU, I'm considering transferring into the program and have some questions to ask. I prefer that you PM me, although I can post the questions here if you prefer.

$$$$$$$

more students = more tuition money

More students => harder to get into courses => longer stay at sfu => More money

Anyone have experience with internal transfer?

I am currently in engineering, and in the process of transferring into kin.

My marks aren't the highest, but is it generally hard to transfer between faculties?

Not hard at all, just go to advisor and asked to switch. But assuming you have already fulfilled some of their pre-reqs

IMO if I were you, I would probably stay in engineering. Yes the workload is higher and probably classes are harder than Kin classes as well, but you get more career opportunities in engineering. In kin, unless you decide to go to grad school, physio, or med school, the future doesn't look that great. Yes you can get a job with a bachelor degree, but it's more like a personal trainer type of job. Mind you grad school, physio require min 3.5-3.6 gpa. Master of physiotherapy at UBC is super competitive.

What I'm trying to say is Engineering will probably have better jobs once you completed your bachelor. Hell Kin is my interest, that's why I choose it as my major, I always tell people I wanted to become a physiotherapist, but once I took a look at how hard it is to get to Master of physio at UBC or any school, I know it's game over.

But if you like Kin and just wanna get a degree, go for it.

Although finding a job is great and important but if you hate it, it`s not really worth it (at least IMHO). Go with what you love instead of what is giving the best prospect of a job. Otherwise, you`ll just grow to hate yourself.

How does SFU Kin compare with UBC's kin program ? I just got accepted today into SFU but am probably not going to attend. I am waiting for UBC's decision, but am leaning towards going to Langara first to transfer to UBC if they do not accept me.
