I am currently on a three-year plan with Fido. It ends on May, 2011. I was wondering if it is possible to get a retention plan this early? I plan to sign another 2 or 3 years with them if I can get a good plan. |

I have iphone 3g right now and i dont have a data plan i just use wifi so the 100mb is just a nice extra. I was planning on selling iphone4 and gettin a berry anyways which i heard uses a lot less data than iphones Posted via RS Mobile |
They called me this morning, coincidentally right after I read about the Mobilicity announcement for their launch tomorrow. I was at work, told them to call me on weekend. Later I ate dinner and had time so I called 611, connected to CSR and told them loyalty called me earlier today. I explained I wanted a lower monthly rate then continued to politely review what I would like to expect to be added and see if it was possible until he could no longer give me any more freebies/credits things like that. Took like 40 minutes and was quite pleasant. 3 year renewal - current contract ending in December 2010. Been with them at least 5 years now I think. New plan $25: 250 daytime minutes 1000 minutes for evening at 5pm/weekends Unlimited Fido to Fido/Rogers +$10 Unlimited incoming Caller ID/Visual voice mail+2500 outgoing CDN texts Flex Data plan (I average ~100mb to 300mb): $10 up to 100mb $15 up to 150mb $20 up to 500mb $25 up to 1gig no SAF, 911 (Paid these for the longest time) Pretty much $25+$10 for voice/text plus at least $10 for data, most likely $20. Total: $50.40 for 100mb, $56 for 150mb, or $61.60 for 500mb after taxes My previous retention plan negotiated back in 2007 I think (took me about 3 calls over like a week to get): Old plan $25: 200 daytime 1000 evening 7pm/weekends Unlimited incoming and F2FR CID +SAF+911 + $25 500mb month to month + $5 for 200 text messages. Total: ~$72.20 after tax Getting 16gb Iphone 4, using like 70 fido dollars and they told me after about 2 billings cycles they will deposit back 50 fido dollars for me. Pretty happy I guess, got everything covered and will save about at least $10 a month. |

Do all carriers have retention plans? |
^ only main carriers (fido,rogers,etc.). the newer brands don't (koodo,wind,chatr,etc.) |
35 - unlimited local calling 10 - flex data 10 - vm, cid, 2500txt.. ect __ 55 + taxes = $61.60 Plus free iphone 4 sent directly from retention. |
TBH, I just went through the last page or so and most of the fido retention plans don't even look like retention when you stack them up against Mobilicity's F&F's $40 plan, has anyone used that as bargaining chips with Fido? did they offer anything similar or better? |
^ nope. I had one year left on my contract. Called into Fido and told them what Mobilicity is offering and if they could match it. Both times I called in, the CSR said they couldn't match it, in fact they told me they couldn't do anything to lower my bill period. I politely thanked them, and the next day went down to a Mobilicity dealer and got their unlimited $40 promo plan. Now... I never worry about minutes or data usage. I can text to friends internationally (free), and call all over Canada. It's basically one less thing I have to worry about at the end of the month, I used to have to check on my bills every time to make sure I wasn't overcharged or wrongly charged. with Fido I had: 250 Daytime F2F 5pm early evening vm, cid, 2500 text 500mb data $70/month at Mobilicity: everything unlimited + free calling across Canada and US $40/month I did the math, 5 months with mobilicity, I save more than what I would pay on my cancellation fee with Fido. Seriously, the only thing I worry about now is whether my phone has enough juice. Overall, I'm happy I left Fido. I would encourage people to support Mobilicity and WIND (not chtr), their coverage isn't as good right now but I'm sure with more customers that will change. Phone selections aren't as vast as the Big 3, but there's enough phones that will work with Mobilicity that its really not a big issue. |
it would really depend on the retentions rep you get, and probably the timing too. i used to have this as my phone plan: 200 daytime unlimited evenings/weekends 5pm fido-fido text/call entire canada (i can be in TO and call BC fido, and not get charged) unlimited incoming (i get a lot of international calls) cid, vm, who called $65 + saf etc (circa 2005) my retentions plan i have now: unlimited local calls unlimited texting/calling FROM anywhere in canada TO anywhere in North America cid, vm, whocalled $40+tax basically so long as im in canada, i dont get charged for anything i dont have data since i dont need data. the biggest worry i would have with the new carries like WIND or MOBILICITY is their coverage and zone. my friend using WIND was in 38th and granville in vancouver, and she got charged for roaming. WTF IS THAT. |
with mobilicity you get your 40$ plan but you also get global text, data and north america wide calling.(thats right all of usa and canada) and another thing with mobilicity is that you do not get charged roaming even if your phone says roaming, once you start to roam your phone will not work. and all of vancouver/richmond/burnaby/surrey is covered |
^^ so u can be say down in florida, and you wont pay roaming with mobilicity...? |
Your friend probably didn't know how to set up her phone to only work on WIND. Even though Mobilicity allows free roaming for now, I've set my phone up to only work on Mobilicity frequencies my phone won't roam at all. I did the same thing when I was with Fido. Your plan is pretty good, maybe they didn't have that in place yet when I called in. No matter, it's done now. |
it's highly probable that she didnt know how to activate/deactivate roaming, but right smack dab in the middle on vancouver and her phone goes roaming...? now that was questionable. i got my plan around october |
Not really, my understanding is that phone's scan for the best reception available. If your phone is allowed to roam, then it'll jump onto w/e frequency is providing the best reception at the time. |

new here! =) Im glad I found this site before we decided to renew our plan with FIDO. I read all the post last night and armed with all the new knowledge we decided to try to negotiate for a new 3 yr plan contract. =) We still have 6 months to go with the old plan. So, we called FIDO (me and my husband were on a couples plan, a crappy one!) and I let my husband do all the talking. He managed to negotiate a really good plan and it came down to this basically: For each of us at $60/account 350 anytime minutes unlimited evening/ unlimited weekends unlimited text local/international unlimited MMS voicemail who called call display no SAF and... 6GB of data all for $60 a month, $120 for the two of us. Our previous plan was nothing comapred to this, with no data and shared minutes, we were paying $110 a month! We also each get a new iphone4. FIDO retail stores has none, so we went to the source, APPLE STORE. :) Nevertheless, I think we did good. P.S we were told that without all the freebies and the credit we supposedly would get every moth which is $15/account, it should be at least $75/account. so $120 plus GST of $6 is not bad, hey? |
I have 10 months left with my contract with Fido, so that works out to be $200 in total if I cancel now. I have $80 bucks from my Fido Rewards, can I use the rewards towards the ECF? Quote:
|
^ they told me I couldn't use my fido $$'s for EFC. Currently, I'm using a HTC HD2 running sweet sweet Android. Mobilicity uses the same frequencies as t-mobile from the states, you can use their phones if you don't like what Mobilicity has to offer. |
