Thanks for mirroring the downloads.

Can someone explain how a CHINESE varsity club, which is operated by a caucasian, is somehow multicultural? Why don't they just call it the Varsity club?

Im told that the caucasian dude was elected not too long ago and it was then they decided to start doing this multicultural gig. The change was suppose to help set the new tide.
My beef with it: wrong to have a multicultural club when the club name has the word Chinese. Unless there was some plans with it?

SpuGen 09-26-2008 11:12 PM

Reading helps.

CVC was started wayyy back when there were a handful of Chinese individuals who wanted to play sports.

You think they're just gonna change a name with so much history just because a white guy was running the show? Get serious.

BNR32_Coupe 09-27-2008 12:46 AM

So what part of the CVC club is Chinese? I've done a bit of reading and, unless they're secretly discussing Chinese trends and culture, the CVC club does nothing but dance, bbq, hang out, and socialize. How does that have anything to do with Chinese culture, meeting other chinese people, or chinese trends? I'm sure they've mentioned the beijing olympics once or twice, or maybe mentioned a few chinese political news and agendas, but as they currently stand, this club with seemingly enough history to keep their misleading name, does nothing but SOCIALIZE. It's not even Chinese people socializing amongst themselves, they're openly inviting and recruiting people from all cultures.

Nobody mentioned anything about changing the CVC name, but that wouldn't be a bad idea. Think about it, a club with a history of congregating other Chinese students to play sports has changed into a club that's mainly about socializing. No discussions on Chinese media, culture, or trends because they don't want to scare away non-chinese members.

If this club wanted a more multi-cultural member base, they should taken the CHINESE out of CVC or created some other club, instead of making a self-racist video that only ruined their history and name in the eyes of the media.

Yeah, I seriously doubt any of the other Chinese clubs do any of that stuff either. All these clubs are are places to socialize.

goo3 09-27-2008 02:15 AM

Tell me a club that isn't an excuse to socialize. :lol

Anyway, it's been pointed out it's mainly a CBC club. What they're doing is they're making an effort to be inclusive, and I don't see anything wrong with that. They could have easily shut themselves off from others and we wouldn't be talking about them. Instead, they made some edgy videos trying to promote that but, at the same time, dissed some other clubs for their exclusiveness along with other things. And here we are, either we're laughing or taking offense.

Where do you draw the line with naming it Chinese? Or when does the club stop being inclusive to other races? I don't think a club name should be like a country name, something that truly has history and should be kept the way it is forever. If the CVC club had everybody BUT a chinese person in their club, wouldn't that seem a little silly to call it CVC?

Some of these car club websites have other cars in them, and I guess they're being inclusive as well. But if Civic club was full of Lambo owners, they might as well call it civic club.. and if there was any civic people that wanted to start a club to meet other civic people, they'd start a new civic club altogether. CVC's club name has no meaning anymore, whereas other clubs seem to live up to their cultural club name.

hey, things evolve over time cuz ppl change, new ppl join, groups get bigger, more v-v-v-ariety of interests get added, etc.. RS used to be mainly about import cars. Now we're talking about stupid videos on the internet! Where's the REV in that? Where's the Kentucky in KFC? :p

marc0lishuz 09-27-2008 10:43 AM

UBC is already a big Chinese social club in itself.

Look at revscene and UBC as communities. Then think of each forum category as a club. How much sense would it make to post about your pet rabbit's eating habits in the police forum?

FYI, the kentucky is in every chicken drum stick or wing you buy. It's the colonel's secret "original" recipe that was based out of Kentucky, Illinois.

Gh0stRider 09-27-2008 04:14 PM

nothing wrong with that video. I found it very hilarious.

A lot of stuff in life doesn't need to make sense. Where are the lakes in LA, the Flames in Calgary, or the Grizzlies in Memphis? What does a pet forum have to do with "The Northwest's #1 Sport Compact Car and Classifieds Site" called Revscene, in Star Trek font to boot?

You can rationalize it however you want. Obviously, I care more about what's inside something than what it's called. We'll just have to disagree on this .

yeah RS has a lot of weird forums, but 95% of the members can sit down and have a conversation about cars no matter which forum they use most... thats the bond that keeps RS together and gives it purpose. CAC/CVC members dont meet up and talk about being canadian asians
