the CONTRACT for aircare ends in 2011. If they do not decide to renew it, then it's gone...but do you guys honestly think they won't bring in something like a toned down VI system?

it makes no sense for them to kill it completely and just leave it like that

horray for the island!
from what i've heard once aircare is gone they'll be replacing it with something more inline with california's emissions testing system. I just hope they have some sort of age of vehicle exemption like cali (20 years old and it no longer needs testing)

Come to think of it, how many "bad" cars do we normally encounter? It's not like every 2nd car on the road is bad.

I'd like for them to be rid of AirCare. My MR2 failed 4 times in a row. And now, I have the Alfa to worry about.

since you know so much, where is the money going? In fact, why don't you give them a call and ask them about this. Their number is (604) 436-2640. Let me know what you find out.

Where is the money going? well that's pretty easy to answer.....RIGHT IN THE POCKETS OF THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT!!! that's where the money is going.

Do you really think the government gives a shit about the enviroment.

Aircare & the enviroment is just another excuse for the government to extort the taxpayers.

Out of the hundreds of millions of $$$ Aircare has made for the government(and the private American company that owns Aircare & also has the contract),have we ever seen it put back into society in making the air cleaner? NO!!! instead we get another tax, better known as the carbon tax.

Aircare is run by a private company but still a subsidary through translink. The "hundreds of millions of $$$" is used to help make air cleaner by keeping vehicles with high emissions off the road. Aircare has lowered emissions since it started. Aircare is actually costing the government money to run, that's why they've been closing facilities.

Carbon Tax on the other hand, is just a cash grab.

don't let your prejudice towards the government take over you...

air care helps...

carbon tax doesn't...

but yea.. if you know what you said it's true, just post where you got the info from.. and none of those.. i got a reliable source that says on the inside...

i'd be interested to know as well since i always thought the government covers the cost for air care

is there any proof aircare has actually made the air we breathe cleaner?

Or is this just something the government told us & want us to believe.

If aircare made such a huge difference to the enviroment, why is it not mandatory on the Island,Okanagan, nothern B.C & the Kooteny's,why just the lowermainland?

Also, why is aircare only limited to private vehicles and not commercial cars, vans, trucks and tractor trailors, why not motorcyles, lawnmowers, weed eaters, boats, farm equipment, trains and airplanes or anything that runs on gasoline, deisel or propane.

Like I said many times, aircare is just one big scam.

I think you need to actually do some research before you go running your mouth. All you did was say stuff about the company but provided no facts. So instead of making statements backed up by nothing, do something like call the number I gave you and do some actual research. Oh and from my experience...the usual AirCare "haters" are the ones that didn't pass with their pos car. So forgive me if I am wrong but I think you are one of them.

^ I think you really need to check out on why aircare was created in the first place.....and it wasn't becasue the government cared about the enviroment.

You seem like one of the many gullible people that actually believe the government when they say aircare is for the enviroment.

...do you think the carbon tax is to make the air cleaner too?

You are right,I am a aircare hater, but I pass everytime when I need to go for testing,I just hate the fact of being extorted just to be able to drive my car.

Then move outside the Lower Mainland - AirCare doesn't exist in the rest of BC.

Lots of urban centers have emissions testing. Be glad you don't live in California, where the entire state has far stricter standards.

Anyone remember the days we had vehicle inspection stations instead of air care? I can't remember much, but they did check for things like headlight adjustment and tire condition. This was for passenger vehicles. Anyone have any more info on what other kind of stuff they did and why they scrapped the programme? Also, can Air Care personnel give out VI's if they see any illegal modifications or if they see dangerous conditions?

So...who is benefiting and why does the current Liberal government want these people to benefit? Aircare was introduced during a NDP government 16 years ago.

Rumor always has it they're going to get rid of aircare, but I'm very confident once they get rid of it, they will bring in a new program. FOR SURE.
