working for the border hey just wondering if anyone is a border agent or have a good idea at getting in. im in school right now but heard some people just went to trainning thnx |
They have info sessions all the time. I attended one at VCC downtown. Check their website http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html |
thnx |
I can't find any info in that link.. |
click job opportunities on the left hand side.... |
i know, but it doesnt mention the info sessions at VCC.. |
What school are you currently attending? I have a pamphlet to become a BSO somewhere.. I'll take a look for it and see if it's all that useful.. There was recently a booth at SFU with information about doing a co-op for it. |
apply online, simple as that. check the federal website regularly. I know 2 guys that just got the job, but prepare to wait it out. it's a lengthy process when it comes to testing. the gov't is slow. |
Ya, it does take a while. When I did it, it took them like a few months to let me know when the exam date was and then waiting for the results then scheduling a interview. I usually get emails about the info session from my school, so i'll post it if i hear anything. |
from the day you apply online to the day they call you back to confirm you got the job after all the testing/interviews is approx 6-10 months from what I gather from close friends and relatives that have went through the process... |
Maybe try applying now? I applied about a month ago ...and got my confirmation and test this month |
i go to douglas, im guessing study the pretest given online thnx again for all the input |
What schooling do you need for this? |
Pretty sure you just need to be attending school. |

Step 1: Apply Online 2: Get e-mail for written exam and go write the exam (usually in Richmond's Best Western) 3: If you passed, you'll get an e-mail for an interview at the YVR airport 4: If you passed, you need to get your First Aid and Firearms certifications 5: When you get your certifications, you wait to get sent off to training in Quebec 6: If you passed training, you're offered a job somewhere you specified Training in Quebec offers a small allowance but not very much but I believe food and lodging is provided so nothing to really spend on. The process is long and slow so don't expect to get a job right away. |
isnt this the same process if u wanna be CBSA officer at YVR as well |
CBSA is the new name for the former CCRA. the process is not too slow. after u get past the intial 3 hoops, u may or may not get rigaud right away. in that case, you'll get trained at yvr most likely until spots open up. the catch is if u fail rigaud, officer powers, etc u lose the job. |
thnx for all the input everyone i didnt expect this much as for ppl who written the test like derek howd it go? |
If i were in the army reserve, would it speed up the process, because i've gone through all the background checking and all that bs already. |
Should be a bit faster as long as the clearance is still up-to-date. |

The pay is pretty good though, $50,000/yr? Isn't the job pretty slack too where you just sit there and look at passport and ask q's? |
when is the next info session |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 08:46 PM. |
