At the bottom of Burnaby Mtn Parkway just before the Cheveron station, there are 3 cars that are still completely covered by snow/slush/ice from the first snow fall.

You obviously don't drive, don't know what shovelling snow is, and for that matter, probably don't even walk outside your house. So I hope your roof caves in from the excessive weight of the snow.

I can give you pros and cons to snow.

Pros:
1)White Christmas. It looks prettier. But christmas is over, and actually, snowing during one of the busiest days of the year actually makes this a con.
2)Kids love snow. Because they can make snowman, snowforts, snowball fights, do all sorts of childish snow things. Except, I think majority of us are over the age of 10 in this forum, and we acutally need to take responsibilty ourselves instead of rely on daddy and mommy to drive us to school and back.

Cons:
(Refer to all the other posts in this thread.)

I don't have any major problems in snow either, but why the hell would I want to be stuck behind drivers driving 30km/h in the main roads because of snow? Why would I want to take extra caution walking on sidewalks so I don't do a faceplant on the pavement (which is actually covered in ice).

I actually enjoy driving in the snow personally. However even I know when enough is enough. When the snow is so deep on my side street, that my tires lose traction, because the suspension is unloaded, because my freaking car is high centered, its time to stop. I'll go drag racing in the snow, would love to try my hand at ice racing, but when I NEED to go someplace and the snow is so deep my car won't move, it kinda pisses me off. All the people on my street got so fed up with the snow, we all chipped in and paid for a plow to come and clear out street.

My only comment on the whole situation is

"GLOBAL WARMING MY A$$"

I happen to love driving in the snow.

And I too want more of it.

And yes, I go out in it, drive in it, and shovel it. It's a nice break from the constant rain.

I enjoy snow but I hate shovelling it and constantly cleaning my driveways and walkways every few hours or so. I Love how there's not that much traffic when there's a heavy snowfall. I hate how my skid plate (belly pan) ripped right off when i drove it in the small streets. PLEASE DO A PART AND HELP CLEAN IT. It's better for people and it's better for the cars. Anyway to solve that problem I will sell my current Winter beater and get a Tacoma or a Hilux diesel, then I'll dump all the snow that's on my bed and on to my neighbour's driveway Just kidding....

Ya, my biggest thing is shoveling and fucked up parking. Almost none of my neighbors shovel anything they just wait for me or the other guy who actually shovels to clear a spot then take it.

My body is still sore from busting up ice.

Had this happen to me a few times. I was brushing off the snow all around my car. I haven't done the windshield yet, but I opened my driver side door and turned on my car. Wanted to warm it up while I was brushing the snow off. To save time, I don't actually sit in my car before starting the car. I just open the door, stick my head in and turn the key. I forget my car's wiper is usually set to auto so my car detects snow (or something wet) on the windshield, the wiper starts wiping automatically, and lots of snow fall into my car since my door is still open.

What do you guys think?

Does the snow melt faster with rain at say 10 degree weather, or does snow melt faster with 10 degree weather with sun?

Melts faster with the rain, as the rain is able to remove the cold (that just sounds wrong) faster than simply stagnant air mass. Same principal as put beer in fridge at 0C and wait for it to get cold, or put the cans in salt water at freezing temps moving by it, and it gets cold 4 times as quickly. Ever used the water chillers at some beer and wine stores.

The rain water would carry the carry the cold away from the snow. Sun would make the snow evaporate. We all know evaporating makes things cooler so it won't melt the snow as quickly as the rain. Try making ice cubes with hot vs cold water, the hot water freezes faster

^ isnt that just a myth? dont water molecules have to slow down to freeze, therefor molecules moving quicker take longer to slow down then ones that are already cold?

Defies logic eh? Water's a strange beast... it also expands when it freezes unlike other substances. Anyways, here's an explanation.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mpemba_effect

The air temperature is colder during sunny days than cloudy days because of the insulating effect of the clouds. When it's raining higher temperature from the water penetrates more surface area of a pack of snow. When it's sunny, the air temperature would be cooler, and only the direct sun energy will be melting the snow at the top.

I'm just glad they removed the snow warning for this weekend. They had predicted another 5cm Friday night. We have a car club meeting on Saturday so the extra snow would have kept a few people at home.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The city of Vancouver has already ordered five new snow plows to hopefully advert another winter disaster like we had this year, but the new snow plan may also include a job for you.

COPE councillor Ellen Woodsworth told the Province she'll be asking that the new plan look at partnering with community centres and local non-profit agencies on programs that would allow them to co-ordinate loans of shovels, salt and other materials to central locations.

Woodsworth says recent snowfall has caused hardship on many, suggested a network of volunteers or paid workers could be used to clear sidewalks, and that a snow line - possibly attached to the city's new 311 phone service - be set up.

The snow plan is expected to top the January 20 council meeting.

Good for Vancouver now if Langley and Surrey would do the same. No plows came within blocks of my house and still haven't had garbage picked up since first snow fall a week before Xmas.
