absolution 12-24-2008 10:48 PM

i should just use like 20-30 min to clear the snow at my driveway to get my car out....

blame the city for not plowing the streets we all pay taxes nothing gets done!
sooner or later they gonna have a snow tax to have more plow trucks on a road

luibei 12-24-2008 11:23 PM

Montreal transit was really damn good, fast reliable, CHEAP, covers a wide area. the only thing bad about it was that there were sudden stops on the metro sometimes whcih could lead to serious injuries and maybe it was my bad luck but it happened quite a few times.

just FYI, skytrain is running very smoothly right now, too bad there is barely anyone using it.

tonyvu 12-24-2008 11:33 PM

Does anybody know if translink is running tomorrow?

montreal's metro works 0 problems all year round and its cheap as fuck, it was like 30 cents a zone ( a few years ago probably more now but still ) and its faster than driving

here @ translink we have bus drivers getting paid overtime and a HALF to fucking drive in the snow.... wow

orange7 12-25-2008 01:00 AM

appearantly, transit is too cheap to afford snow tires on their rwd buses...

no wonder they suck in this kind of weather...

Sometimes things are just out of the control of humans...aka..snow. Especially the amount we have and the intensity it's coming down with..and it's heavy wet snow!

So if you think bitching/whining bout the service will accomplish anything, let me ask you this.

What if there was no service at all?

You'd all be majorly buttfucked, I think we should be glad that they even attempt to try and keep things running, even if it's majorly delayed..

i hope they stop all there services. Ill be the first to open my own bus route n shit 10000000% better than translink. I bet a 10 year old kid can run a public transportation better than translink

Today in the evening (around 6-7PM) the Millenium Line was actually running from VCC Clark to Sapperton. The problem was that the Expo Line was halted from Waterfront to New Westminster due to a fallen tree somewhere.

Nvasion 12-25-2008 01:13 AM

white christmas sucks!!! i cant drive in the freaking snow!! havent seen my GF for like a week now.. and im getting yelled at.... i cantgo out to buy food.... gotta walk to work... get all wet and crap... screw this!! i liked it when there was no snow....

jnesss 12-25-2008 01:13 AM

spent 2 hours coming home tonight. under normal conditions, it takes me half an hour to get to work for home.. at most.

tonyvu 12-25-2008 01:53 AM

lol translink is going to be garbage when 2010 comes rolling by... Cousins from Montreal are telling me they getting the same amount of snow as us and the metro there is running fine, embarrassing.

*puff puff*

Synaptik 12-25-2008 02:35 AM

vancouver's livability rating is going to plummet once people come in 2010 and realize what a complete sham our entire public transit system is. seriously. is this what we call "the best city to live in"? a few days of snow and the entire city is paralyzed.

the same bullshit happens EVERY winter and translink acts like its the weather and not their own fault for being unprepared.

this would never get stuck in the snow

Wow, that's awesome. If I had that, I would run over the transit buses. :haha:

Deepstriker 12-25-2008 02:37 AM

The other day translink trolleys were shut down because translink was too fucking lazy to de-ice the lines the night before.

optiblue 12-25-2008 02:41 AM

crazy :( I feel people's pain! heard on the news that a tree fell on the skytrain tracks which stopped everything. If my teg can make it to the main roads, I can still drive! Sadly, my car already plows snow and gets stuck on my UNSHOVELLED side street...

WORST CHRISTMAS EVER... already had to miss one party... might miss another one tonight :(

They should be fucking prepared for snow. If transit providers are not prepared for this kind of shit then what about in countries where it snows through all 3 winter months?

If there was no service at all people would not get to work, the companies are fucked cause they can't do business. No transportation service at all would fuck everyone.

butter_sashimi 12-25-2008 06:49 AM

screw you all. At least you're all in Vancouver at home. Im at the airport with a Delayed flight to 604-land. Yaaaay Translink failure is my present when I arrive. And tmr is the boxing day rush, it's gonna be worse.

When was the last time Vancouver experienced this amount of snow? Yes, it snows every year but it's usually a maximum height of a couple inches before it melts away the next day. Because this is the norm, it's what Translink expects every year and is prepared to deal with when it comes. It's unrealistic for people to expect Translink to buy proper snow tires for every single fucking one of their buses when there's a 99% chance of them never needing 'em. Do you know how many thousands of dollars it would cost to put snow tires on every one of their buses?

Other cities like Salt Lake City, Montreal, and the like where it snows constantly are used to being dumped on and, as such, are already prepared for it.

Seriously, people. You need to stop and think about this before you bitch and complain.
