note to self: avoid skytrain for a couple of days

SkunkWorks 12-27-2008 03:15 PM

I walked home from Metrotown. A good 1.5 hour walk. Pushed out 3 stranded cars. And only the sole of my right sock was wet.

:)

+1

I would rather suffer in traffic and pay for parking downtown than take the skytrain

Just like last night when I was heading out to the Canucks game. Checked the Translink website before I left so I could decide whether to take transit or drive. Site said Skytrain is operational and running on time. Still said the same thing as I was standing on the platform after 10 minutes. Their CS number was busy and the notice boards didn't indicate any problems.

It was only after 15-20 minutes of waiting they decided to tell us on the intercom that there was a "30 minute or longer" delay. Sucked because me and my uncle had already paid for a ticket. Ended up driving out there and made it just in time for the game.

well, i usually come home from work before 12am. my cell phone was dead, she called work, and work said i left long time ago, parents said they couldnt get hold of me either and then she called translink and they said it was running fine. and when i told her transit was fucked she didnt believe me.

SupraMan604 12-28-2008 12:24 AM

Transit is retarded...maybe if one of the directors had to wait for the bus or skytrain they might actually give a shit or do something about it. Or the public have to just deal with it right?

You would think after the first snow storm they would have tried to do something but all you hear is excuses...if a tree fell down that is understandable but what about all the other times before and after the tree fell was there no delay? Also what slush fund? Didnt that go towards the nice raise they gave themselves? Who cars about a slush fund when they can give themselves a raise. They already had there excuse ready which was "how would we know this would happen?" Bullshit i guess the weather man is useless and a liar so will just deal with it when things happen? This might happen oh once or twice a year so let the public deal with it. The directors get paid the big bucks and things like this happens hmmm I guess they have meetings to discuss how not to prepare for something like this. Seriously who is responsible for this shit when it happens? If they had people who knew how to manage or prepare for this it might not have happened. Thats why some businesses are run better than others.

Thats why i hate transit and gave up on it a decade ago =)

03aspec 12-28-2008 01:31 AM

i have one simple solution for the transit problem, don't use it, buy a yaris.

SupraMan604 12-28-2008 01:49 AM

Word....

I wonder if the public had a say or could fire the directors of translink if this would still happen?? Hmmm...

Anjew 12-28-2008 01:55 AM

regardless of whether the snow is uncommon or not(which it is, since it has snowed heavy in the past 2 years, trains/buses shut down) they should have winter tires (for our fucking safety) on because sub freezing weather is a FACT in vancouver EVERY YEAR and everyone knows all seasons lose traction below 5c.

seriously tho translink had AMPLE warning before the snow storms. they should have prepared hardcore for the shitstorm. beg/pay extra for employees to come to work from their vacation, hire contractors etc... seriously... how much warning did we have? 4days warning?? i remember it was wednesday the 17th with the first snowfall and EVERYONE knew there was going to be a shitstorm on sunday 21st then another on christmas eve.

partially the CoV fault for having no dang plowers out. christmas fucking eve... i shudder at the thought of when the olympics come. that would be the week i'd be so fucking embarrased to be a fucking vancouverite. i should tear down the "best place on earth" license plate i have...

yea... Vancouver has about 32 snowplows, and they only using 20 of them... Like what the fuck? why aren't they using the other 12? Where's all of our tax money going to... fucking retarded. -.-'

then why the hell am i paying taxes for our transit system. Seriously, Translink needs to be called out.... get their friggen budget layed out and analized. Restructure their priorities.

If the shitstorm hits... close down minor routes, divert resources on getting the main routes rolling like snow plows, deicers, bus drivers to drive the main routes.

i'm sure people wont mind walking the extra 15-30 minutes rather than waiting for 2hours for a bus that has his rail off the track 10x from the ice.

SkyTrain passengers take a ride with the doors open
Jill Drews NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) | Sunday, December 28th, 2008 2:42 pm

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) - A series of events led to a scary trip for SkyTrain passengers on the Expo line yesterday afternoon. Passengers on the train from the New Westminster Station to 22nd Street just before five o'clock were forced to take the trip with the doors open.

Drew Snider with TransLink says the train was being driven in manual mode and technicians were repairing the train at the time, and had bypassed the door alarm system, but that's not all.

"We have platform video which indicates that someone actually forced the door open to get on at New Westminster Station and in trying either to force it open or to force it closed, something broke, apparently, and that's why the door remained open as the train was in motion."

He says TransLink is trying to learn more about the rare incident to make sure this never happens again.
