I agree it does seem like it, but it's a GOOD transition for HS students and it makes a even easier transition to Uni.

Ya, but afterwards you will still miss it a bit compared to UBC or SFU.

70? jeez I thought that class and all the exams were easy! I got 95% in that class and I didn't even study or try. Did you attend the lectures? If you did you should be getting 90-100% unless you got a crappy prof. I hope you have Naila. She was awesome!

aikenluu918 08-06-2010 04:11 PM

Going there this september. took a year off but now i guess school is the only option

I did that too b4 i went to Langara. It's good, because you sometimes need some time away from school. I also took 1 semester off after my 1st year and it was good. Gives you a nice break from school work and pumps you up when you go back.

Good luck!

Very true on the easier transition to Uni, get's you prepared for the whole 180 degree change that you would experience from HS to UNi. Now that you mention it.. i think i will miss the class size and the overall friendly and close relationship you will develop with the prof and classmates. When i was at UBC profs gave little to no care for you. All the teaching was done by the profs and if you had questions it would be the TA's that answer them... so the relationship is very distant, and teaching methods would obviously be different as well. But College it's very close, just like HS. ya, i will miss it.. but reason i hate it so much is cause i'm going no where in the college. My courses are so random... more like i have no objective in the school other then getting high grades to transfer out ? lol feels empty and pointless when i got to school.. i don't want that feeling.

Ya I totally agree, i wish i had taken some time off. since gr 10 i haven't had a summer to myself lol. It's been school, summer school, school, summer school. Right now I'm taking 3 courses at Langara as summer classes. I only have about 2 weeks off and then class again in September. *sigh*

but yesh good luck and have fun to everyone going to langara this September, school is amazing even the courses, and everyone is friendly.

still cramming fml.. Btw anyone know when program restrictions actually lift? The FINA department keeps saying it was yesterday and today.. I tried both days.. both fail. FML department head is on holiday and I'm stuck with a "substitute" that doesn't' reply emails ==''... i guess i'm gana go to his office today see whats up.. i need those courses!

WUT? mike? LOL

i got all my courses set and done on the day of registration, if i make any changes there arnt any spots left.

genesis195 08-10-2010 10:22 PM

haha ya mang :P wait you're in fine arts? dude i'm stressing out hard right now.. the test i have no idea if i did okay... and worst is fine arts department is being a lil bitch.. they never give me straight answers ==. so miss leading! arg so stressed man so stressed.

BaoTurbo 08-10-2010 10:31 PM

dude the admin is so full of shit all the time. like all the counsellors are just so fail i dont even bother. you still have that 1180 on thur, but its all over after that. And yea im in arts and sci trans program but looking into more international business kind of stuff. wtf are you trying to get?

genesis195 08-10-2010 10:35 PM

Fine arts and transfer to emily carr. But I also have the prerequisites after 1180 for enviornmental design at ubc or other architectural related things. Just gana be hella hard to get into. I might apply back to U of C for oil or something too.. i just want to get out of langara asap and actually start focusing in a program and get some where in life.. rather then taking random ass transfer courses hahah.
But ya man so stressed. Fine arts Program at langara.. hella restriction.. no one not even councilor told me == they jsut said the fine arts student get's first pick.. and not a fucken full on restriction that blocks u tell the end of registration ==''
seriously i'm getting played like a fool..

muteki 08-10-2010 11:39 PM

"they jsut said the fine arts student get's first pick.. and not a fucken full on restriction that blocks u tell the end of registration ==''"

say what?
just go sign up on the first day of reg. if your grades don't suck there should be no problems. if you really require it talk to the dept. head or the specific instructor to get in.. that's what they do at university as well. A lot of people end up on wait-lists until they do something about it.

haha long story short, when i registered for Fine arts it was already full so i gotta wait tell oct 1 before i can register again..

I've talked to the instructors, the department head, the register's office, the councilors. Most of them know me by name because I've been asking them for such a long time. Ya. no help lol, they won't do a thing and keep pushing me to ask someone else. Like today i went to talk to the substitute head because the department head is on holiday. anyways, he told me to ask the registry and that there's nothing I could really do about it and asked why i didn't' register in the first place =='' I explained to him, but this was over email, so no reply yet. I had talked to him previously face to face. Anyways, I talked to the registry office and they thought all restrictions were lifted, and told me to talk to the department head if i needed further assistance... like really wtf? And by the time the actual department head comes back from vacation, registration will be over.
She had previously told me that ALL restrictions will be lifted by Aug 10.. but since she isn't' here, no one would do jack shit.
blah..
Seriously this is exactly the same as UBC. When i was in engineering half the rules and shit no one could answer me. I had no idea about probation and about the "rules" in probation. I had no idea about registrations and marks like i was cluless. I asked advisers and no not the "advisers" in the front desk i went directly to the senior advisers, still no answer, the just directed me to some pan flit and told me to read it, and surprise surprise its' full of shit.
,
i apologize i'm at my limit.. i've got fucked and played by post secondary for far too long.. my grades are not bad.. i dont think.. but its' all these stupid rules and shit that's keeping me from progressing .... and the information that is provided to me that is so miss leading and has little to no validity even though u think it's form the source.. utter shit is what i think..
GAH~!

But complex it's true, if u are on wait list and you talk to the instuctors, chances are they will lift it and let u in. But in my cause its' somehting differnt... i need them to lift a whole program restcition.. and they are being jerks. I undrstand why they would be so skeptic to it.. but really i've been giving them good enough reasons, and realyl i jsut need 2 courses form the program.. is that to much to ask? and they arnt' even full!!
What really pissed me off is that the head said they are reserved for the fine arts students.. like ffs, its' been 2 months since registration started.. if they haven't registered i don't think they should even be allowed to be in fine arts == like they dont have a sense of urgency? god!

BaoTurbo 08-11-2010 09:03 AM

Wut program are you in then?

genesis195 08-11-2010 10:44 AM

i'm in arts and science right now ==
and ya just got off the phone with the "in acting" head.. bull shit. in summary. " tough luck buddy, try again next year? oh? you dont want to waste a year? hahaha too bad i'm to lazy to do anything so good luck and bother someone else :) bye now~"
I'm going to say this once.. if i don't get these courses, i'm going to do something very extreme.. I've honestly had it with this bullshit..

kaitamasaki 08-11-2010 12:52 PM

Haha good to see someone whos in a similar boat as I am... I was in UBC engineering, had to withdraw after 1st year, and been at Langara for two years. Marks weren't good enough because I wasn't working hard in the beginning, and advisors at UBC didn't tell me the most important was the average of the core courses... so I got screwed over and couldn't get back in. Now I'm looking to see if I can transfer to SFU engineering in January, thing is I need a 2.5 GPA, and I probably have 2.3-2.4 right now, so I'm asking SFU if I have a chance by retaking my worst courses at Langara this fall to make it back in.

Feels like I'm dragging this way too long, but pretty sure this coming sem will be my last at college... IF I don't get screwed over again!
