In the chinese culture at least in last generation's mind old folk's home is place you go only when your children desert you or you are so sick and old that you are a burden to the family.
in chinese culture that is major shame. "face" is everything.
I did not say any ppl of any race is looking forward to partying in the old folks home, its just that western culture dunt have such am extreme negative view toward old folk homes.

Seriously, I don't have any family members that went to a home and I don't even know any friends who have grandparents in homes. Every one of my grandparents lived on their own until the end.

Every one of my grandparents lived on their own until the end. | the only time my Oma went to a home was because she had perkinsons and needed 24hr care. I think a lot of people send there parents to a home because they are worried something may happen and no one will be around to help them.

I'm living in the West End in UBC and the difference is quite significant whenever I commute to Surrey. The people feels different as well. I can't explain it, does anyone have any clues why I feel this way? | I've lived in Delta, East Van, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta, Langley and Surrey.
and yes, surrey was the worst.
theres a lot of in-considerate people there. Like you get a douchebag feel when you meet people. A lot of people would pollute and have their music real load and swear super loud in front of little children. It's like they don't care. You get that everywhere, but I find that it's more in Surrey.
A lot of racism b.c of the many brown people. Plus other asian races too, but majority is brown. So the clash in western and asian (im talking about traditional asian) cultures creates a bad atmosphere.
The white people in surrey/langley have that "hick", "hillbilly" , "trashy", "fat and lazy" feel compared to the more liberal/modern white people you meet in coquitlam or burnaby.
I don't know, just my two cents.

Whalley and parts of Guilford and Newton are poorer, while areas of Fleetwood, East Clayton, Fraser Heights are more upscale, and then you have Panorama Ridge and pretty much all of South Surrey which are also good.
People who slag Surrey have usually never stepped foot in the city and are pretty close minded so there is never a point in discussing the matter. | I agree. I meet a lot of people from west van, and richmond, and they think surrey is super bad and they will get rob if they go down there. They are ignorant and close minded.
Surrey is as pretty safe, you've got your bad parts, but what city doesn't? Nice big houses and nice neighborhoods if you're in the nicer areas. Lots of green space, big back yards.
shietty bridges to get into vancouver though. . . . .

and how does coquitlam and burnaby have modern/liberal people. every part of bc has people that act like hicks man.

i've lived in surrey my whole life(18 years) but i don't live in whalley. if i said i lived in cloverdale, 50% of the people here on RS wouldn't know wtf that is. it's pretty much the "hick town" of surrey. and it's not a poor city with tonnes of new house last year, a lot of them in the $$millions.

Surrey is so dangerous looking. Everytime I go there, I feel very unease. I feel much safer in Richmond, Vancouver West, Waterfront Downtown. I will not live in Surrey nor Delta, nor any other cities beyond them. White Rock is not that bad but it's too far from the Chinese superstores.

I live in Surrey, dangerous place thats for sure.
I can recall 3 shootings within the last 2 years in my area.
2 grow ops, 2 crack houses and 1 meth lab within 2 blocks.

Seriously, unless you're walking in a shitty part of town at like 2am, if you feel scared to walk the streets in Surrey you need to grow a sack, or stay in west van where the most you need to worry about is what Blenz to go to.
