Make sure you eat and drink some water before you go. The nurses there say it helps them find your veins easier.

I'm usually in and out in under an hour. You just sit in a comfy chair and watch TV while it pumps. You can go get some juice and snacks afterwards and be on your way.

[edit] If this is your first time going, then they'll do a bunch of tests on you and send you a letter afterwards telling you your blood type and which percentage of Canadians have the same type as you. I found that to be kind of cool cause I'm AB+ so only 2.5% of Canadians share the same blood type as mine. Luckily, I'm a universal acceptor, so I'm compatible with every blood type, but some aren't as fortunate, so they depend on donations.

RS got me started, but after giving 25 times, I stopped. I should start going again. The last few times, it took almost two hours. If the system has changed and times have improved, I'll go again.

It's quite a bit different now. You can fill out the questionnaire before you go and the more often you go, the less questions it will ask you. (as it will take out questions that don't apply to you) Probably cuts about 15 minutes out of the wait time by not having to fill out the form when you're there.

Too bad I just donated last week though. No ice cream for me. :(

Are you scared of needles? The needle they use for blood donations is pretty big... :D

In my experience, I felt tired after, so don't plan any strenuous activities right after donating blood. You don't want to pass out!

Taking a nap would be great! :)

And, don't move when the needle is in............... in case it breaks while still inside your arm, lol. :troll:

I remember once, falling asleep while giving blood. They thought I passed out and they brought out the crash cart. Got told never to do that again. I told them I was just meditating, Gulolol.
