Majestic12 05-01-2011 08:29 AM

Checked out their grand opening sale. There were some pretty sweet deals to be had. Picked up a 55-inch Samsung LED for 1100. It was crazy busy yesterday. Got there about 11:30 (30 mins before opening) and there were about 10 people, but then by the time the doors opened the line must've stretched out to 70 or 80 people, if not more. And when I left, the line was still pretty long, maybe 50.

As for warranty, I asked an employee, and he said warranty is for any technical/manufacturing problems. I asked about dead pixels, and he said there's no minimum # of dead pixels before warranty kicks in, so that's good. One year was included, and an additional year was 17% of the price of the TV. Not all TVs come with one year, some come with three months or something like that.

So you got that tv yesterday which is Saturday? Cause I went on Thursday and they said that tv is sold out and they won't have anymore till maybe next week. If so then openboxco just lied to my face. Don't know if I'll be buying a tv from them now.

Bought an iPod Touch 4G there pretty decent, some tiny scuffs on the back but nothing major.......

Culverin 05-01-2011 01:48 PM

Seems like some decently high end stuff. Do they have monitors too or just what's listed on their site?

I'm looking to upgrade my two 1920x1200 monitors to full 30" screens if they've got them cheap.

iambuRnz 05-01-2011 02:07 PM

some wicked grand opening prices!

TRDeol 05-01-2011 03:21 PM

Bought a 40 inch tv from there, had it for a year and a half now, no issues at all! Great place

I went on Saturday, and they didn't have any, but they said I could get a rain check, which is what I have now. They said that they expect to have more by this Wednesday.

MTV Cribs 05-01-2011 05:56 PM

Thanks for the explanation. I also got a raincheck on Thursday but I went back today to ask them "what the hell man?" :-D and they had the tv with a minor crack on the bezel for $50 off that was available. Maybe if it was $100-$150 off I would have taken it

i went there for that...that price was for a 3rd gen...ran out of the 8gb 4th gen...some of the tvs are awesome...i remember buying my lcd then for 899 and thought that was good deal...now for less it will be the led 120hz samsung which looked amazing...

the great thing is that they have the tvs tied to a single source so you can compare which one you want

I picked up my raincheck Samsung 55 LED tv on Thursday and as I expected, all these openbox.ca Samsung LED tv suffers from some major light leakage especially in the corners and major clouding issues. I don't mind it for the price I paid but if I paid regular price at Futureshop or Bestbuy, I would have exchanged it or returned it already.

Did you compare it to the display model? Because I stood there for at least 10 minutes watching the display model and it looked fine to me. But I don't really know how to look for those sorts of defects, so maybe I just have an untrained eye.

JesseBlue 05-07-2011 12:13 AM

for the savings, i think you can learn to overlook a few things...

DJ Milk 05-07-2011 12:39 AM

The reason I was expecting these problems on this tv is because openbox sells tv that have been returned or exchanged by customers of the big retail chains. It was probably returned because of the light bleeding and clouding issues common with this model of tv. It's kind of hard to see in the day time so that's why you probably didn't notice it on the display model. I notice it on my tv last night with the lights off and the screen was showing a very dark scene. I had a 52" Samsung LCD for 4 years that I just replaced with this and never once notice these issues on the old tv. But overall I'm still happy with my purchase. I just hope it last for at least 4-5 years before I buy a new tv.

Culverin 05-07-2011 01:02 AM

In my experience, monitors that have light bleeding or poor lighting show up when they are on, but showing no picture. It's especially evident in a dark room with the lights off.

I'm not sure if you can do this with any of the openbox inventory, but I'd insist on cracking it open and taking a look without it displaying anything, the blank screen would show any sort of light bleeding or diffusion.

JesseBlue 05-07-2011 07:19 AM

how about just toning down the backlight

DJ Milk 08-22-2011 11:35 PM

I have a problem with the cable tuner on the tv. I have a 1 year warranty for this tv and I'm going to exchange it later this week and test them if they are going to honour their in house warranty.

SFUguy 08-22-2011 11:46 PM

^ Geniebra eh? LOL

DJ Milk 08-22-2011 11:53 PM

They exchanged the tv after running some of their test.
