It's tough in the cap era to sign a superstar forward because you have to make a cut somewhere in your roster. And I'm sure Gillis must have weighed his options for a big name forward during the summer before he signed the Sedins. I think if he could have got a good forward or two the Sedins would have been playing somewhere else. For the most we're stuck with the roster we have. I don't think we have a bad team but the question is what player or players will step up this season and start scoring the goals.

It's not like he scores 2 goals every game. We still have players that should be able to contribute offensively, they're just not doing it lately. Kesler, Samuelsson, Burrows, Bernier, Wellwood, Salo

None of Burrows, Bernier, Wellwood and Salo are going to get points/score like Daniel does so I'd say he's pretty important. Losing a point per game player is a pretty big deal, especially if he is your top scorer.

On a lighter note, for all of you bandwagoners losing hope feel free to give this a gander.

Starting with the 2003-04 Tampa Bay Lightning and ending with the 2008-09 Pittsburgh Penguins, the last five teams to hoist the Cup have lost at least three games in a row three times during their championship seasons.

The 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks persevered through an 11 game stretch in which the team won only twice and had two four-game losing streaks. Ditto for the Detroit Red Wings circa 2007-08, they ended February 2008 losing 10 of 11 games, including six in a row. Same story for last year's Pens as over one 10 game period between December and January they lost five straight and eight of 10.

This team won't do any more damage in the playoffs then last years team did. One thing that those teams you just mentioned have is heart. Now look at the Canucks, there are only a handful of players that I would look at and say they play with heart every game.

Gh0stRider 11-13-2009 07:12 PM

canes are winless in last 14 games...WOW. Leafs have more wins then them...lol

Don't get me wrong, Danny is an important player he's the leading scorer on the team but there seems to be more to the problem than just having Danny out. We're hardly getting any goals from anybody right now, the one Raymond got yesterday went off his skate. We were supposed to be a whole lot deeper this year with our talent and even with Sedin and Demitra out we should still be able to score a couple of goals each game.

Beating NYR and getting Sundin last year wasn't a big move?
Signing Luongo to a huge, lengthy contract didn't require balls?
Where are you gonna get money to pay for another superstar forward?

I think he is serious, lol.

JKam 11-14-2009 12:03 AM

How would yzerman get us a superstar if he was our GM...? What would he think of that Gillis hasn't thought of?

TRD Rs200 11-14-2009 12:06 AM

After your day is done, is there one winner and one loser? Are you competing one on one or team vs team? Work's set up so everybody can succeed. It's not hard to be consistent when expectations are set consistently low.

I haven't seen the games lately, but I'm guessing we can't score cuz we have no first line.

saiko 11-14-2009 01:35 AM

Is it me or is Samuelsson a bit of a ball-hog? He seems to do a lot of coast-to-coast type of carries, and doesn't like passing it off when he is pressured by 2 opposing players..

Regardless, Go Canucks! Still a huge fan.. but I die a little after each game.

Well, detroit is all about puck possession and it make sense for him to keep the puck.

It is much better than passing it off and losing it in the neutral zone or constantly do dump and chase.

Hondaracer 11-14-2009 09:36 AM

^ werd, id rather see samuelsson shoot the puck and go for a shot + rebound then have a bieksa or somone else skate in, shoot wide and clear the zone

Yes, enough of this dump and chase bullshit. Real men carry the puck in!!

mickz 11-14-2009 11:05 AM

The Canucks don't have any players skilled enough to carry the puck in. We've got some decent players but no superstar-calibre players up front like Detroit.

shawn79 11-14-2009 11:34 AM

team canada looks weak...
