Looks like he went head/neck first into the pole

So might as well bring it up again, who's going to light the Cauldron? I hope it's Betty Fox and better then that I hope they pull off what I heard suggested on the radio the other day. Wayne passing to Betty who through CGI passes it to Terry Fox who lights the Cauldron.

I'm sure whoever lights it will be worthy but I think that would be pretty damm epic and a great way to start it off.

ya.. i doubt 10 feet back would do either.. going at his speed he would have flew pretty far if nothing was to stop him.

RIP..

I wonder how this is gonna effect the olympics.. first athlete to die in winter games ever..

The question is, would the padded beams make a difference at all for someone traveling in 90mph at full impact?

danny_d19 02-12-2010 01:42 PM

It wouldn't make it worse

hoking 02-12-2010 01:45 PM

R.I.P I hope they fix this soon.

To the IOC protesters with Balaclavas: YOU ARE FUCKING COWARDS! Take them off if you're fighting for what you believe.

LOL I was watching that on TV when they were talking to the chick. Reporter asked her why are there so many Balaclavas and she replies that she hasn't seen any. Reporter comes right back with well you have one around your neck right now. Her answer? She wears it normally for fashion statement. lol

skyxx 02-12-2010 02:34 PM

Padded beams wouldn't have helped him. He was going close to 150km/h :(

Soundy 02-12-2010 02:40 PM

Just been talking about the crash on CNN "Situation Room" and showed the video... unreal to see the speed the guy's going, then just *CLANG* and dead stop (no pun intended). Ouch.

RIP.

Jsunu 02-12-2010 02:45 PM

Oh god, I hope there is no further incidences of this caliber during live competition.. with people watching :( RIP

bengy 02-12-2010 02:48 PM

jmvdesign 02-12-2010 03:05 PM

will there be any spots for spectators to see any of the opening ceremonies outside of BC Place? like jumbo screens outside of the stadium broadcasting the event?
