I will never stop using my MP3 player in my car. It's what I bought it for, my car even has a input jack for it. Fuck the government.

I'm still wondering about the receive text messages. I can't prevent people from sending me texts while I'm driving.

Face it, no 1 is ever prepared for anything. Our nation is based on poor preparation and rushed execution. I'm waiting to see someone crash while scrambling to connect their blue tooth and put their head piece on.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Just because you have a hands-free kit for your cell phone, does not mean you are safe from a ticket. We're looking at the fine print of the new law.

You've got the blue tooth headset, so you think you've got things covered - but you're wrong. You need to make sure it is all set up before you even turn on the ignition, no scrambling once someone calls. If you wear a headset, it can only be in one ear, unless you're on a motorcycle.

Think of that phone as a hot potato, no holding it or leaving it in your lap. Find a secure holder instead. To answer the call it has to be voice-activated or one-touch. Thinking of firing off a quick text message or email? Don't. That's against the law.

It's not just cell phones affected. No touching that mp3 player or mobile device once the car is running and all music has to play through your speaker system.

If you are a new driver or learner, don't bother bringing any electronics into the car at all.
that's bullshit.

fucking gay law.

So are new drivers (N) even allowed to use blue tooth??

i've read the jawbone does.

my plantronics 925 automatically pairs with my bb 8900 once bluetooth is enabled on the phone.

so basically as i'm walking to the car, toggle bluetooth on, sit in, start up the car, turn on BT headset, driveeee

Exactly.... Always having to pull over to try to read your stupid paper map is REALLY a lot less dangerous than having a GPS?

Whats next? Drinking from a water bottle while driving will be illegal?

Oh, I wonder how many people are going to get screwed in accidents? What if you were on your phone after Feb 4th, and you got rear ended or someone t-boned you? Your at fault? Can they check your records(Phone records)? Another reason to say... "FUCK THE POLICE"

it's common knowledge to plan your trip before you actually drive.

i think it's in the icbc driver licensing manual as well.

you can't be USING your phone WHILE DRIVING, you can pull over and use it if you get lost.

and as for GPS..

Quote:
Note: Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) usage restrictions do not
include glancing at the screen of a Global Positioning System (GPS)
device or listening to verbal voice prompts from a GPS device while
driving.
so you can glance at it or listen to it while driving, you just can't tinker with it (change coordinates, etc)

so no, we aren't fucked if we get lost

Cops can hit their quotas so easily now. I bet they could pull over atleast 20 people within an hour. I feel for all the N drivers though because you should be able to use a hands free but I guess this is their way to ensure that by the time you finally get your full license that you've been a safe driver
Cops don't get quotas. Anyway, I like the new law as well. I think it should have been implemented many years ago. It's a logical decision to ban cellphone and electronic device usage when you're driving. It makes the road safer. I have encountered many drivers talking on the phone making driving errors. I don't get why you guys are saying this law/regulation is "Gay, stupid, retarded etc etc". If you must talk/answer your calls, get a bluetooth headset. Simple as that. If you don't want to, then that's what VOICE MAIL is for. If the call was really important, the friend, client etc etc would leave a message.

how is using a hands free set any less distracting then holding a phone?

is it because you need 2 hands on the wheel? what if you drive a standard? i rarely have both hands on my wheel

talking is talking, wether it be on bluetooth or on a phone, your mind is still focussed on the conversation regardless

Then you're doing it wrong. I know what you mean though. Just try and bring that hand back up to the wheel after you're done shifting.

I used to be really sunk into that habit but have been trying to break it lately..

I'd like to see tickets handed out for cell phone usage to those pedestrians who walk and text at same time with their heads down lol

...how is that something to compare it to at all?
behind the wheel, you're capable of killing somebody if you're texting

if you're on foot, the worst you can do is bump into another pedestrian
