Can the gov just ban C-lais already, they do all of the above, like they chat with 4 other C-lais in their car (and 4/5 of them have split conversations on the phone with other C-lai drivers) while matching their C-lai visors to their LV and being confused as to why people are constantly in their way, especially pedestrians!

I'm not sure if they drink and drive, they prob dont need to anyways.

if bc really cared about people not crashing into eachother and not their pockets, they would have implemented mandotory driver training.

If they want to ban the use of GPS while driving then they should ban GPS being sold is stores and being install on cars and cars that came with GPS built in should be ban as well. Also, since new drivers can't use bluetooth at all they should be a law saying anyway who purchase a bluetooth headset needs to be show thier Driver liscence beofore they can buy one, and they need to show thier driver driver liscense at the point of sale of buying a car to show they have a class 5 if they want to purchase a car with GPS/Bluetooth built in.

this ban is a good idea, both hands should be kept on the wheel anyway.
but the 3 points is a little harsh. it's going to hurt a lot of drivers for a while!
really wonder if this will make that much of a difference though, considering there are SO many idiots who don't even have to be talking on a cell phone to be NOT paying attention on the road (especially when they're parking or backing out of a parking spot!).

I admit I've had some near-misses while using a cell behind the wheel (one hand holding the phone, I can't turn the steering wheel fast enough sometimes). This year I got my hands on a bluetooth puck (integrated into the stereo) for my car, and wow, I can't even imagine fumbling for my phone anymore.

The dumb thing about this law though is that it will criminalize people who dial a number while behind the wheel, even at stop lights. That's where I'm guessing the most tickets will be issued as it'll be easiest for the cops to see.

Where's the link about GPSs and mp3 players being banned too? So far it looks like they're leaving those alone..

hahaha thank god i can text with my phone and be high enough that the roof of a cop car is at the bottom of my window...good luck spotting me coppers! and i WONT be using a hands free device, if they want me to use one, they can fucking buy me one, cause im not using the speakerphone if i have people with me....i dont want them listening in on my conversations.

i agree with what someone said earlier, if their going to be doing this ban..fucking get rid of all the bitches who let their little poodles ride in the drivers lap....get rid of all the dumb broads who leave work 15 minutes late and use their rear view mirror to do their make up while driving...get rid of touchscreen dvd players and navi units, get rid of taxi's onboard computers...and most importantly....how many fucking times a day do i see a cop DRIVING while typing something into his laptop..

Well, technically they could get you for "driving without due care". But I know I've driven while eating with two hands in the past and steering with my knees.

Most retarded thing ever, there's a ton of bad drivers that aren't talking on the phone or even texting. Wouldn't it apply to talking to any one in the car then? What about other people that drive with 1 hand? Holding a phone to their head isn't any different than driving normally and talking to a passenger for them.
If you can't multi-task, then don't try to do it. -_-

They should also ban having small children in cars. I see it at least once a day where some mother totally isnt paying attention to driving cuz she is yelling at her kids in the back seat..

By the same logic, why not ban all radio, music and stereo as well?
No matter no trivia, I am sure listening to radio channels and music distract a driver to a certain degree.

The real question here is whether implementing such kind of rules so we can prevent a few more accidents is worth causing the inconvenience to thousands of others..

This isnt really smart although I agree with Texting, talking should be permitted, I know many ppl who need to talk on their phone while driving because of work or buisness related stuff. Yes you can get a hands free option, but it doesnt change anything. Cops are going to be so busy pulling over ppl for talking on their phones, that people who actually are indangering others by speeding and bad driving are going to get away easily. We already short on RCMP this is just making it worst. IMO

I spend at least half my day in the vehicle and use the phone all the time. I probably won't change my habits I'll just hang up or hide my phone when I see cops around. If I get a ticket I'll pay it, price of doing business I guess.

will no hands free be added as a new restriction for class 7 N drivers so only effecting graduates after Jan 2010 or will this be affecting all class 7 N regardless of when they graduated?

Bluetooth headsets are convenient, but do not pass the new law.

^^^ meh I think "oh he must have a headset" before I think "that dude is messed" whenever I see someone talking to himself. My paradigm has shifted.

as long as your headset has a one-touch answer or voice answer as well as voice controls so you can dial out, you're fine. If it's just a set of wireless headphones, that's not really a "headset" as they are usually defined.
